Preacher comic book (top) and the new TV series starring Dominic Cooper
*Spoiler Alert*
Seanán Kerr writes:
I don’t know if you’re familiar with The Preacher comic book, it’s a fantastic read and they’re of course making a TV show (above), worrying thing is they cast a English actor in the role of the Irish Vampire Cassidy.
However what’s most important is that they make use of what for my money is the greatest scene in all comic books, one where [spoiler ahoy] Cassidy (the soon to be) is rescued from the Easter rising by his older brother and well you can see for yourself (top).
I’ve contacted the producers via their twitter page to fill the role and if possible I’d love your support on this, it’s one of my greatest ambitions in life to be able to knee Michael Collins in the groin, if for no other reason than I deplore violence.
FIGHT!
“Quick its Collins, he is in a right two and eight!”
do what? you’re avin a turkish!
They’ve also cast an English guy as the American lead, but you don’t bring that up, for some reason.
And Tulip’s not being played by an american either
Don’t worry, she’s being played by an Irish person….
I’m curious as to what Texans make of Dominic Coopers accent. Does it sound as dodgy to them as Gilgun’s accent sounds to me?

That is really poorly written. Is this man trying to say also that he has contacted the producers to take over the role of this actor which has clearly already been shot? and that he also hates the violence in the show.
I really think this is the ranting of a lunatic.
Irish actors play people of other nationalities all the time. There is no rule that actors should only play people from the same country as themselves. This person is a lunatic.
To be fair, most actors of whatever nationality make an excellent stab at the American accent. The Irish accent as rendered by a foreigner tends to range from unconvincing to rage-inducing. Nobody else cares of course.
In this case they have opted for “giddy culchie having the craic down the back of a biz org class”.
Andrew Scott is Irish and he can’t do an Irish accent .
*Snort* How right you are!
Aiden Gillen is from Drumcondra. Remember what John-Boy sounded like?
Maybe it’s true, maybe the Irish are the worst at the Irish accent. Timothy Murphy had a more convincing Irish accent when he was trying to be Russian.
Robert Sheehan ruined lovehate for me.
+ Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
The actor playing Cassidy has been cast and shot, the lad kicking Collins is his Cassidy’s brother. As the (spoiler alert, maybe?) backstory of Cassidy takes place a good two years or so into the original comic run, I think it’s fairly safe to say he hasn’t been cast yet.
the rant later on in that back story about Pearse and blood sacrifices is also wonderfully cathartic
if they do the scene where Jesse uses his Word on the pundits on the talk radio show I will stand and applaud and buy all their Blu Rays
Incidentally, the link doesn’t lead to the lads’ Twitter page.
What a clusterfupp
Comics? Sorry no, I’m an adult. Thanks though.
An adult wouldn’t be wasting their time desperately trying to troll.
You’ve got some ranchero crumbs on your fingers and a dried in Monster stain on your atari t-shirt
Trim your beard and lose a few pounds too
That’s a very specific erotic fantasy you have about him there.
Ha!
So just the sports jersey at the weekend, for you? I assume you only watch the news on television and only read newspapers and non fiction too?
Saw this a few days ago but I refuse to judge it on the basis of this clip. I’m too heavily invested.
A..a….woman? Who enjoys bandes dessinées? *Faints and falls on to chaise longue*
I hope it’s just a trailer for the pilot. And that Ruth Negga’s presence will sort out Gilgud’s accent a bit.
Jesus, Broadsheet. Do you really have to post every crack-pot correspondence that you get from any old idiot?
” it’s one of my greatest ambitions in life to be able to knee Michael Collins in the groin, if for no other reason than I deplore violence.”
What a load of nonsense.
“I deplore violence, so I want to do violence”
“This week, in a very special Easter 2016 episode of Preacher…”
There would be war.
Look. Fella.
You are gonna be disgusted.
There is no way that anybody is gonna make a faithful representation of Preacher for Telly or Movies.
People don’t often make stuff that is that violent or confrontative in film.
Some of the most violent anti-religious stuff you can think of will pale utterly in comparison.
It will be watered down to the point of disgust, because people don’t tolerate stuff on telly that they tolerate in print.
I could be wrong like, but don’t get your hopes up.
I completely agree. Look at the reaction to the last series of Game of Thrones; predominantly the reaction of those who only watch the TV and never read the source material and weren’t expecting some of the stuff. People were going bananas about sex/violence/deaths/nudity, when you never once heard the same about the books.
People are weird.
I think it’s because reading it puts you one more step away from it. I remember thinking the violence in the first Sin City movie was pretty shocking even though I had read those same stories in comic form and thought nothing of it.
if he wants to appear in it he can be Arseface
Too late:
