There has to be some kind of middle ground between being alone and being visited by Jedward.

      1. All the good ones fly south for winter

Having The Edge of pop rock sensation U2 visit would be the middle ground.

I loathe that pair of twits but it really can’t emphasised how important this campaign is. So, grudgingly, fair play.

I fupping love Jedward but even I could only stand 2 minutes with them tops. Fair play though, great campaign.

Wonder can they get BT Sports on those hairdo’s? Other than that it’d be nice to have one at each corner at the front of the house to string the lights on. It’d only be for the 12 days and it’s not meant to snow so they’d be grand.

This has to be one the worst torture inflicted to the elderly… Jedward? Lads….. its over, it’s been over for a lonnnnnnng time.

Love that John and Edward are giving of their time to this cause. Their grandmother spends part time in their family home, they have a love and respect for elderly people and understand how important it is to look after the older members of our communities.

I don’t know why y’all have such hate and prejudice towards them. They’re really down to earth people, goofy maybe, but they do good stuff for people and animals in need. World would need more as positive and good people like them, they at least are cool with different people unlike some of you :) I don’t see how it’s appropriate to say they’d drive someone on the edge. They’ve helped a lot of people off that edge to the safer side. People need to start treating each other as equals, you don’t necessarily have to like them but being cool with sth you don’t like is way cooler than having the need to slag them off. Have some humanity.

John and Edward are great guys with the biggest hearts! So pleased they’re ambassadors for this charity! We need more kind hearted down to earth people like them in the world :-) It will Definately help more young people get involved with Alone Ireland

Well done to the boys, anyone who has ever felt pangs of loneliness will welcome any positive action that their involvement in this campaign will bring.

As to all you lads and lasses above that are so monumentally concerned that a visit from the boys to an old person that is alone at Christmas will be a living hell for that person, well volunteer yourself to be a visitor and give people the pleasure of your company. G’wan, that would show Jedward! http://alone.ie/get-involved/volunteer/

Can’t spare the time to volunteer regularly – there are more ways to help:
    Charity run link: http://alone.ie/christmas-cracker/
Petition to designate a portion of all social housing units for use by older people: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/alone-homeless-in-all-but-name

Turn that begrudgery into something positive – What’s it going to be? Your time in volunteering, your money in a donation, your legs and some fundraising or your signature for the petition?

      1. Neilo

Hi Dubh: fair play, you caught us all out. I volunteer in the area and ALONE is one of the few charities I have any time for so I’ll drop a few quid in the bucket.

        1. Dubh Linn

Neilo! – Fair dues to you! Anyone else for anything else to give?

I am sick otherwise I would be out there volunteering too. I donated €15 Euro yesterday so thanks BS for the reminder to do a bit of good.

Because people can’t make a stupid comment online and also take part in any of those activities?

        1. Dubh Linn

I did not say that. In fact my exact words were:
As to all you lads and lasses above that are so monumentally concerned that a visit from the boys to an old person that is alone at Christmas will be a living hell for that person, well volunteer yourself to be a visitor and give people the pleasure of your company. All I did was take the ribbing that went on and respond in kind with a suggestion that would benefit the charity. It was really lovely how some people took this as a reminder to make a positive (as well as a piss-taking) contribution to a really worthy cause.

If you feel I was stating the two were mutually exclusive, you read my words wrong.

I have to admit some smart-arsed comments did come to mind when I read this article and I nearly wrote them down and all …… but my daughter met them at a Smyths toy shop once and they made such a lovely fuss of her and the other kids there, I really couldn’t. They actually don’t seem to have an air or a grace about them and who doesn’t love people who make time for their kids?

Fiver given in a donation and I signed the petition as pennance :)

        1. Dubh Linn

          Wahay, thanks Casey,
That’s 4 donations from me being a bit of a cheeky sausage. Nice one and the people looked after by Alone win.
          Excellent!
