Broadsheet Trailer Park: A Very Murray Christmas

at

very murray christmas

What you may need to know:

1. It’s Bill Murray, people.

2. Murray fangirl Sofia Coppola directs this hour-long Christmas special. With gorgeous George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, David Johansen

3. …And Miley Cyrus. Licking an aluminium Festivus stripper pole and dry humping an elf. Probably. Begone, vile woman.

4. No Carol Kane? Shame. Murray and Johansen could’ve had a Scrooged (1988) reunion.

5. Broadsheet prognosis: Less singing, more jokes.

Release Date: December 4 (Netflix).

I’m gonna express an opinion – not a matter of fact – I think Bill Murray’s a hack. Same lugubrious demeanour in a never-ending parade of Oscar bait whimsical ‘indies’. He even made Olive Kitteridge a slightly more grim viewing experience while drawing focus from the magnificent leads. Himself and Clooney are well matched: both are lifelong presidents of their own fan clubs but at least Bill has a diminished comic genius to draw upon.

TBTG, I thought I was the only one and I’m no contrarian when it comes to pop culture. Murray’s been stinkin’ up the joint for a while: like Eddie Murphy, he needs to rediscover the funny.

I don’t get the non-stop acclaim the man gets.
He’s like bloody Bob Dylan in that he could crap into a paper bag and people would spend money on it.

I thought Scrooge was crap. I really did. Thought it was crap then, I think it’s crap now (watched it last year).
I wish it was good though.

Fair enough for not liking her (she has got a decent set of vocal chords on her though), it’s just that every criticism seems to be calling her a vile whore when she doesn’t seem to be more outrageous or sexual than some male artists.

And even if she was, it’s still a crappy slut-shaming reason.

Agreed on her vocals, she does a great version of jolene.

I think most of the dislike of her antics centers around the fact that she’s very clearly acting out after a very abnormal childhood/adolescence and a lot of her antics and statements are clearly meant to shock, which can be annoying whether its a man or a woman.
