i have no interest in god but somehow i feel the urge to defend him against smug atheist types

    go figure.

This article is not about ‘smug’ atheists.

It is about politicians who refuse to do anything about gun-death violence, hypocritically calling upon God everytime such a tragedy is reported.

Religious people in other countries often support gun control.

Almost every day, you hear about another mass shooting in the states. They think that immigrants are the problem? Really?

        1. classter

Huh, immigrants? No, lax gun control.
          And more tenuously a spectacle-loving, winner-takes-all society.

          1. meadowlark

Exactly. Their attitude that guns are their god-given right is a real issue. They see any kind of gun control as an affront to their personal freedoms. It is sickening.

Chicago has the tightest gun control laws in the US and never has any gun crime. The rest of the country should follow Chicago’s example.

Here are some interesting tweets from Neil deGrasse Tyson on guns in the US:

3,400: Americans who died by Terrorism since 2001 3,400: Americans who died by household Firearms since five weeks ago.

            — Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson) November 9, 2015

400,000: Americans who died fighting in World War II. 400,000: Americans who died by household Firearms since 2001

            — Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson) November 9, 2015

1.4 Million: Americans who died in all Wars fought since 1776. 1.4 Million: Americans who died via household Guns since 1968

            holy fupping poo

            400,00 in FOURTEEN YEARS?

Not that i don’t trust Neil, but is that figure correct? That surely cannot be right.

          5. David

In Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine, the figure is about 11,500 deaths by firearm per annum in the US. I think the figure for Japan might have been 40 and the UK 60 but there again, th’oul memory but.

(So for instance if the UK had the population of the states, it would have around 300/400 firearms deaths per annum, hopefully not 11,500).

          6. realPolithicks

I believe the 11,500 figure refers to homicides, the actual number of firearm deaths (accidents, suicides etc) yearly is over 30,000. I’ve lived here since 1987 and the violence has just gotten worse and worse. The craziest thing is, these mass shootings have become so common that people don’t even talk about them anymore. I’m in work right now and not a single person has mentioned what happened yesterday.

          7. scottser

            ho-leeeee sheeee-it realpoliticks!
i suppose once people are allowed to have guns, there’s no way in hell they’re going to give them up. the only thing is to put all gun owners in a big field and let evolution do its thing.

          8. David

I’ve always said that there should be law that states: “if you have a gun, it is compulsory to shoot yourself in the head with it. No exceptions.”

They worship USDollar-ed NRA god. A bit of collateral damage Putin shtyle, but victims go to heaven, so all good like.

  3. David

“If God didn’t exist, they’d have to invent him.”

Don’t know who said that but it’s not bad, if sexist.

I find it interesting that the Papal Election Special is a Sports Extra. I wasn’t aware conclaves were considered an official sport!

    1. rotide

That edition was the one that carried the sports extra obvs.

I’m not sure how Eamonnn thinks that ‘reporting the news’ is supporting God.

  5. rotide

Just noticed Bodger slipped in a customary link to the lunatic fringe.

I notice there was no alternate theories on the paris attacks. Only america in the grip of the NWO apparently.

    HearneyDERP,

Under our new powers of TTIP, TTOP and TTWAT etc..

We have no choice but to issue you with an order of cease and desist as legally you are damaging our brand. Eh, I mean, Santa Clauses IS very real and I know it’s true because I’ve seen him on the television and he has a big red truck too.
