Ah the Sun… Thousands of people are enduring the fear of massive health risks, wide-scale destruction of property and general heartbreak and mayhem, but hey! There’s a crass and not-very-original headline in there somewhere!

    Cretins.

Such a stupid answer. Black isn’t a race either but you can definitely tell when someone is being racist about black people.

Kind of a silly stance no? Elderly and old. They read the headlines of the rags when collecting their pension because it’s easier to read.. the kind of thing you are reacting to now…cool the jets.

You cannot pick and choose your doctor. And she didn’t refuse once but twice. A woman in a burka and a black man.

The old woman should have been turfed out. No patient is allowed choose who works on them.

Ok fair enough. Didn’t know a black doctor was involved. Thought an elderly woman was being abused for essentially being afraid of the news. Whatever about an EU ruling Muslim is still not a race

prejudiced ,bigoted , ignorant ,rude etc. but not racist .Saying Muslims are a race is itself offensive, ironically.
incidentally the old woman should have been refused treatment by all staff in solidarity .

Does it state why? Did she ask was the doctor Muslim? Where I work a lot of patients won’t deal with the non irish staff for the simple reason the staff have awful English. One Indian Nurse literally sounds like a baby learning to talk.

    1. Clampers Outside!

I’m sure a consultant can speak English.
Now add to that she refused two consultants.

And according to the story, the elderly woman’s daughter apparently said, I know I’m a “kuffar”…. not too many Irish would know that word. So, I got curious…..

Now, the big Willy gonna get ya moment….. have a look at the elderly woman’s daughter’s account on Facebook… feel the hate and ignorance as she paints all Muslims with a wide brush, just like a complete idiot….. https://www.facebook.com/cailingodeas

Good spot Clampers – I wondered if we were supposed to read between the lines that the patient is herself not Irish but from a part of the world where there are tensions between Muslims and other faiths.

Jesus. So much wrong there. But hey, if her mum wants to sit there in pain and distress rather than be treated by a medical professional, so be it. I hope it really hurt.

    2. classter

It states why on the front page of the paper in question.

The patient’s daughter is quoted referring to her mother as a ‘kuffar’ (Muslim word for non-Muslim).

Anyway, I presuem you have done your best to include this Indian nurse & help her learn English. Just like my collaegues are all expected to pitch in, compensate for the weaknesses of others and help each other develop.

it’s not right about the Muslim doctor but it’s barely a story. old people are fussy, I know a couple of black doctors who have been in Ireland for years, before we really had immigration, and there was always aul wans who would refuse to be treated by them.
they’re afraid of what they don’t know, the lads never took offence.

ok Clampers, you changed my mind!
I was picturing someone like my Granny when she had dementia, I’m always giving people the ebenfit of the doubt.

But on looking at your link I am revoking that benefit. And once I revoke that benefit its very hard to get back.

There’s a part of me reluctantly agreeing with you. And then I see what the nasty daughter has to say and it occurs to me that the daughter didn’t lick it off the ground…

It’s quite a misleading headline to suggest that terrorists are running free because the gardaí are not tracking their own vehicles.
