Enda Kenny finally emerges to review the storm crisis that has been ongoing for over a month. When he does so, he and his friends share a joke as one unfurls an umbrella printed with the words “I love rain” (January 1st). There are many who do not love the rain, many for whom the floods of the last number of weeks have caused personal devastation and economic misery.

Meanwhile…
Said Enda by the floods in Athlone
As the people there cried out ‘ochón’
Mayor Tom with your brolly
In this season of jolly,
To the haterz just say… ‘póg mo thón’

RAIN IS MY TRIGGER
It killed my father and raped my mother, we need safe spaces in Athlone BADLY
Well it’s all a big joke to Enda, as long as he’s never held accountable for his ineptitude. Which he never will be, of course. Even when disgraced and out of power he’ll still be rewarded for life with a disproportionately large pension. Sure why wouldn’t he be laughing it up. Ha! Ha! Ha! The jokes on us all.
Accountability for any elected official is found at the ballot box: it’s where hubris inevitably meets nemesis.
a disproportionate pension you say? after 40 years in the dail including a term (maybe more…as top dog) and what do you want him to retire on?
If it’s the same as the average industrial wage – then you are barking up the wrong tree. The office of taosieach (rightly) is well paid and well pensioned because of the level of work and responsibility required .
it’s not the same as the average teacher or plumber or columnist in the morning star.
Would you ever go and take a run and jump?
It’s a well paid job so why not remove the pension and let the Taoiseach of the day pay some of his wages into a private scheme? Removes the burden from joe taxpayer forever. Reform.
This clown also gets his full teachers pension despite having spent feck all time in the classroom.
His salary is too high, his pensions will be too high and paid too early.
That is not true- I believe he gave up his teaching position and its pension rights years ago
He did in his whole
And Joan was the same
They had ta’be shamed into it
Mickie Martian too
Wrong Michael, he still has his teaching job and agreed to put off taking his teachers pension while he’s a TD.

“Well it’s all a big joke to Enda, as long as he’s never held accountable for his ineptitude.”
– is it Enda’s fault that those rivers burst their banks?
If he’d started a programme of walling in the major rivers when he was elected, it would have been finished last June at the latest. That’s right, BEFORE the rainy season.
I’m sure there are plenty of valid criticisms to be made without having a go at someone for lifting a brolly that happened to be in his hallway.
Particularly as it may have lifted the cat’s mood for a moment: I’m glaring out the window like an emo Noah wondering when the world will end and this place has got ‘nuttin’ on Athlone.

Gotta love the people who go out of their way to be offended by this, I bet not one of them has actually been affected by the flooding as those people who have probably have a lot more pressing things on their minds than expressing faux outrage at a man holding a silly umbrella
Nobody’s outraged by the brolly, or the man holding it. They’re outraged by the smirking hateful willy next to him.
my brolly says ‘some day a real rain will come and wash the scum off the streets’.
My brolly says ‘it’s the Enda the World as we know it’
My brolly says the Dubs are overrated…. no sorry that’s Joe Brolly.
They’re outraged by the smirking hateful willy next to him.
– ok, so you don’t like the man and his politics, and you maybe think that he is incompetent – but hateful? What is it that he does that would make you think that about him?
yes the horrified for the sake of being horrified gang.
Typical flock; smiling and jittery and cap-doffing as their esteemed leader pops himself into a rural pose for a photoshoot to prove he gets down and dirty with the farming electorate.
Enda turning up and enjoying a laugh at a NATURAL DISASTER AREA is ineptitude. Particularly when it’s people like him who have to power to allocate funds for flood defenses.
I think Enda can pretty much right off any votes that may have been coming his parties direction from any flood victims.
As is always the case with Enda, he’s a PR disaster, and only has to show his face to lose votes, which is probably why he was hoping to get away with visiting flood areas at all. Little did he know they’d last so long.
The gobsheen.
The problem with defending Enda Kenny is that you are defending the words and actions of a person who has been proven to lie.

plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose
What a scoop!
Where does he go, our Enda, when these crises occur? Was he hibernating?
‘where do you go to, our Enda……when you’re alone in your bed’.
“We sent you to Athlone for New Year and you spent time there just for a laugh – ha ha ha”
‘And when the Dail ends you’re found in Westport
With the others of the blueshirt
And you find out the country is flooded
But you never get your feet wet, no you don’t.’
For a laugh a ha a ha
Pigs gonna pig
Jaysus – guy standing beside Enda has an I love rain brolly from Dunnes.
He’s not even holding the damn thing.
Still a helmet.

You can use the above to stop your house from being flooded why aren’t more people installing flood defense systems in their houses.
In many cases, water is seeping up from the ground, a door barrier is no good in that situation.
Because Enda personally comes and kicks them down in the night, of course.
Because those flood protection barriers are expensive and only delay the entry of water. Buildings are permeable. They have air bricks, cracks, basements, vents. Also it’s not just houses and buildings that are affected. Roads, fields, water supplies, sewage are all at risk. When a business can’t access supplies it can’t function.
Any flood prevention schemes that could have been put in place by Enda and his lot would only have had limited effectiveness as the answer to flooding is not more walls. Rivers flood. It’s what they do. Build in a flood plain and suffer the consequences. The book stops with the planning authorities who allow or have allowed developments in flood plains in efforts to maximise profit and land value.
He’s still a knob though
