Chasing the Love/Hate dragon.
It was a once off lads. Let it go.
Like trying to catch a cloud.
It’s over.
Bring back live at three.
Live at Three. Dead at Four.
Jaysus, it will be a small cast: Derek Davis has shuffled off this mortal coil and Ann O’Dwyer has hung up her mic.
I’d hang up her mic *winks and nudges until it becomes weird and then funny again and weird again*
Isn’t Thelma Mansfield (or is it Bibi Baskin) back in RTE?
You’re a card, Funster, and you must be dealt with :
The Rebellion billboard has been up at that spot in Ranelagh for a couple of weeks. It’s being pasted over in this photo, not put up.
Yep. Nothing to see here, lads.
The viewing figures for the billboard were disastrous.
Was going to post this as well.
There is close to zero quality control on posts here.
I wish RTE would bring back ‘Going Strong’. Awesome show for the under 6’s and over 60’s. Good times, good times.
An even smaller reunion cast then Live At Three!
bring back ‘superstars’!!

I’m in two minds about Rebellion. It’s got a good story but an awful script. It’s got a big scope but it looks cheap (the myriad mistakes with 21st century signs, paving, yellow lines). It’s got great cinematography at times but the sets are seriously ropey (the British administration seems to be run from one big, open-plan ballroom). It’s got great actors but gives lines to extras who can’t act (the scorned English wife is good, her maid is atrocious).
It’s great that it’s been made, it’s fantastic that Irish people are being shown the facts for what they are – it’s fascinating to witness the furore on social media from confused republicans who were never told or bothered finding out about the brutality on their side and how – just maybe – people like Padraig Pearse and James Connolly were on a spectrum from glory-hunting to full-blown lunacy and brought down plenty of innocent people with them.
But I do wish there was more of an attempt to make it world-class and spend a good few bob on the thing. The main cast are excellent but slightly wasted, which is a pity.
” it’s fascinating to witness the furore on social media from confused republicans ”
Stop trying to revise history! Everyone involved in the rising was great and only the damn brits did bad things, all of whom were sadistic bastards.
I honestly think people have this simplistic view.
About 20% of the population, according to the popularity of SF in the polls.
Apparently it cost 6 million to make!
I agree though, it does look a bit cheap and there are too many modern things to ignore. For that much money you would expect a much slicker program.
6 million would get you like 2 episodes of Game of Thrones though.
“We won’t give up until Cancer does”
Some self regarding ad copywriter high-fived himself after that one thinking he nailed it.
But cancer doesn’t give up. It’s a disease.
you could argue that the advertising is a disease.
advertising in general, not ‘the’ specific advertisement
ah balls it’s late and i’m tired and i haven’t been drunk all week.
Sure it’s early yet and Liverpool reserves are on telly later
*rubs hands gleefully*
Go Team Exeter!
they need some more smiling british officers shooting unarmed men in the head
Welcome to the sordid and unedifying world of revolutionary war. Saints were often sinners and vice versa.
Flagging viewership eh?….
Jan 3rd – 960k watched it on the night incl PVR views on RTE1 plus an additional 100k on RTE1+1
Viewer share – 31% and 4% to each channel respectively
Jan 10th – 1,075k watched it on the night incl PVR views on RTE1 plus an additional 108k on RTE1+1
Viewer share – 32% and 4% to each channel respectively
Jan 17th – 784k watched it on the night incl PVR views on RTE1 plus an additional 91k on RTE1+1
Viewer share – 37% and 5% to each channel respectively
There’s not a station on the planet that wouldn’t salivate at those figures. A dip yes. Expected? Certainly if they know how TV works.
These are not even the full viewed figures as they miss RTE Player views and PVR views of the programme after the first night of broadcast….. ‘flagging’ is a bit of a stretch….. it’ll be the most watched TV series by year end. I’d put money on it.
I can’t upvote or like so ill give you a +nielsen
And as Mrs Browns boys tells us, along with XFactor and Downton Abbey, viewing figures always denote quality.
Always.
You appear to be confusing “quality” with the more intangible “what I like”
Feel free to highlight the lack of quality with regards to production value and audience reception with regards to these three shows. I would suggest trimming the beard slightly, putting down the craft beer and wearing looser trousers before attempting this.
*chuckles*
I don’t have a beard. I don’t live in Dublin. I don’t drink craft beer. My jeans are not tight.
1916 rebellion show is still poo.
And yet you watched it. Otherwise how would you know it was poo?
Quality tv isn’t intangible you clown.
It’s either quality or it is not.
“What I like” doesn’t matter.
This show is not in any way a quality show.
I never said Quality TV was intangible. It quite clearly isn’t. I also wasn’t referring to rebellion in that comment. I was referring to the TV shows that YOU brought up as not quality TV.
Downtown Abbey is quite clearly quality TV.
Quality transcends budget. Writing, direction, costumes.
Downton Abbey had the budget but the writing and direction was atrocious.
I don’t like Downtown. Watched very very little of it.
However I know both from the tiny amount I’ve seen and from talking to people that really do know what they’re talking about, the writing and direction are more than fine.
Yes.
You talk to people.
About Downton abbey.
Amazing.
Grow up. Some like Downton and some don’t. It was a well-made period piece. The numerous awards it has won can attest to that. You are, of course, free to think otherwise but but there is evidence to suggest that it is indeed well-made.
I was with you until Downton.
Although Series 4 sagged a little admittedly.
Downtown Crappy.
Atrocious script, acting, storyline.
Visuals, interiors, theme tune and dog all lovely.
Dame Maggie Smith never watched an episode she thought it so dire.
Well I find it simply marvellous, as do Mama and Papa.
Yeah we’re a nation of mediocrity. Plenty of undemanding viewers who just look at the costume drama and sets and ignore the story. May as well be Coronation Street set in 1916.
Ken Barlow would only be about 30 then….
As an aside….. I used to describe Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as a kindred programme to what I imagine Home & Away: In Space might’ve looked like….
I’m enjoying it. I like that after 3 days in the GPO there’s not a single broken window to be seen from outside. I like that the entire rising seems to be happening off camera. I like that the city is so small no main character can do something without another main character being around (e.g. the brothers meeting on the stairs or the engaged couple being on opposite sides of the shooting of the young looter). I like the maid in the big house “Thanks for coming Doctor. She hasn’t been well”. Not many people would call a doctor because somebody was in the best of health. I like that the bride has kept her wedding dress spotless after 3 days working as a nurse.
It’s a low budget drama based around 1916 and it’s passable fluff but I don’t think anyone went in expecting a historically accurate block buster.
I like this too.
Don’t be worrying, RTE will stir up some faux controversy and Joe can have the unwashed moan about it for an hour on Liveline.
Why has it taken RTE 60 years or whatever to make something about the rising? I don’t even think they’ve done a documentary series before.
TG4 have aired plenty.
Deutschand on Channel 4 at the same time. A superior show.
Deutschland, Deutschland uber Abbeys you say?
Ja wohl. Kein Vergleich.:)
Deutschland 83 is also on RTE
Deutschland
What we need is an expose of the activities of the Workers Party in RTE
in the last 50 years, where they manuipulated public opinion, incidently
who physically counted up the viewing figures, it nearly like all the people
that were in the GPO in 1916 afterwards.
