The fact that she herself has now been exposed making false allegations “motivated by malice” should be grounds for resignation.

The Canadians have proved helpful in the past in such matters – could they not be approached again?
To tell the guards their useless again, it was kinda astounding their first report saying the the Gardai were ‘not fit for purpose’ was dutifully ignored.

Nicky Byrne was utter rubbish tonight. Typical RTE insider promotion. Next up Lottie Ryan.

Nicky Byrne was a member of Westife and therefore should be very rich. I sometimes wonder why he is even working at all if they made the sort of money they were supposed to have?
Bertie Blenkinsop
Maybe he took financial advice from Shane Filan.

IT: Debenhams(Ireland) gone bust.
Upward rents may be a factor but they signed the leases on the expectation that their business would be able to cover the incremental increases. The real reason is the exchange rate. In order to remain competitive they have been making a loss for a number of years. All the British retailers in ROI are under pressure now so I wonder who will be next?
It basically says, the lower of the two numbers, the Long term migration number is a better measure of long term migration while the number of short term migrants (here labelled migrants) can be somewhat better tracked by using the National Insurance Numbers (NINos).
The report was commissioned because, while a gap always existed between the two, it had widened in recent years. This lead some commentators to claim the ONS numbers were not capturing true migration.
The type of migration which has policy implications, in terms of NHS, Schools, Social Welfare etc. is long term migration. The ONS report confirms that the LTM data are correct and that the NINos have some validity in terms of short term migration trends, but do not give an accurate picture of the number of true migrants. The Telegraph and the Express, have read the report and concluded the opposite.

What people fail to recognise as this argument is that government could have planned for an increase in population. Labour did but the Tories cancelled some of their schemes such as building new schools.

Resignation of Garda Commissioner O’Sullivan please. Now thanks.
Does being motivated by “malice” in anyway discount the verifiable facts brought to light by McCabe stepping forward?
And O’Sullivan’s accusation of “malice” was disproven by taped recordings. She should go.
Just in case anyone is in doubt

The front pages of the Telegraph and The Express go some way to misrepresent the findings of an Office for National Statistics Report:
