No, he really is. He literally refers to the place aa home on video. You have no right to tell anyone how to identify themselves.

          1. rotide

While it’s blatantly apparent to evweryone with a functioning brain and literacy that he is indeed an Irish citize, I fully retain the right to tell someone that they can identify all they like, but if they aren’t an Irish citizen, they aren’t Irish.

          2. MoyestWithExcitement

Great. You do that completely unrelated thing to what I was talking about.

          1. Daddy Wilson

He’s renounced his irish citizenship. He is Egyptian. At best he legally holds both Irish and Egyptian citizenship, he wants sharia law in Ireland, supports the Muslim Brotherhood ….
But the poor little fella wants to get home to his spuds and cabbage and his hurling

          2. MoyestWithExcitement

            “He’s renounced his irish citizenship.”

            Proof please.

“At best he legally holds both Irish and Egyptian citizenship,”

So he renounced his Irish citizenship and he’s an Irish citizen at the same time as being an Egyptian one. Are you reading what you’re writing?

“he wants sharia law in Ireland,”

Please provide one quote where he calls for this.

            “supports the Muslim Brotherhood”

            Again, quote him please.

          3. Rowsdower

He never renounced his Irish citizenship, he is Irish born and under the law at the time that guarantees him the right to be called Irish.

Its irrelevant whether he supports the Muslim Brotherhood or wants Sharia Law in Ireland, neither of those would disqualify him from being Irish.

          4. Owen

So, he hold Irish citizenship, but you are not happy with his believes cause they are not the same as yours.

Good work pal. Nice progressive outlook.

” At best he legally holds both Irish and Egyptian citizenship”

And? Someone does not understand citizenship

      1. bertie blenkinsop

Okay, assuming he’s Irish, the next question is…. can he play centre half?

    1. Rowsdower

No, he was only involved in protesting, no direct terrorist activities like the others.

        1. Rowsdower

He might have been born here and hold an Irish passport but he looks a bit foreign and his name is kind of funny.

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

But you also said he holds dual Irish and Egyptian citizenship, soooo……

          2. Rob_G

How does one ‘renounce’ their citizenship? I imagine its a long drawn-out process (and one that is not afforded to minors).

          3. pedeyw

I did a quick google to find any evidence of him renouncing his Irish citizenship, I got nothing, Daddy Wilson give us proof or I’m going to have to assume you’re just being racist. Or you’re trolling in a racist manner which pretty much still makes you a racist.

  1. Owen

1000 days. I can’t even conceive it. I’m not sure what this will do though. What can be done? The state are not going to intervene.

      1. Owen

Good effort, but a 3 yr old appreciating the concept of waiting their entire life for a trial is beyond their capacity, and mine.

    1. Rob_G

The State are doing all they can; Egypt is a sovereign nation, we can’t just demand that they release him because he happens to be Irish.

      1. manolo

Correct, and if he has an Egyptian passport which/if he used it when entering the country, Ireland has very little say on this – in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was being held longer due to ‘foreign interference’ in the case. Egyptians are proud people.

  2. shitferbrains

What’s going on stage to boost the Muslim Brotherhood got to do with whether he’s Irish or not ?

    1. Sido

It’s a “Broadsheet” thing. A lot of people on here fail to understand, that the Egyptian government can be fairly “heavy”.

      1. Twunt

…and the Brotherhood are all cuddles and love for all. Especially women and gays, they cuddle them with fists and boots. Lovely people.

  3. Turgenev

He was seventeen years of age, a point in life in which we’re all entitled to be idiots. We should bring the lad home and envelop him in Irish welcomes and Irishness.

  4. Peter Dempsey

    I consider him as Irish.

I am also curious about his opinion on the ISIS massacre of some Iraqi Real Madrid supporters in Balad yesterday. Does Halawa support it or not?

    1. Chris

Yes he found some spare time in his illegal and brutal incarceration to support a random unrelated atrocity in Iraq. In fact I am pretty sure he was somehow responsible.

      1. Peter Dempsey

Well some people are happy about it.

Because Real Madrid were Franco’s team and the AFA boys are full of hate.

  5. Dolores Delorean

He’s one of the ‘Brand New Irish’ i.e. Irish when it suits me to have a country with no participation in my homeland conflicts, speak on my behalf and rescue me from my own mess because the Irish are so easy to guilt trip

  6. Eaman

If he is not a supporter of the Fascist Brotherhood then he is extraordinarily silly to have gone to their rallies and spoken there. To then end up in a mosque where men were exchanging shots with the cops just tops it off.

It’s like going to a neo Nazi rally in Germany and then saying you were there because you support free speech.

Nazi or not he still deserves a fair trial.

By the way he is Irish. You can’t renounce your citizenship even if you tear a passport. Would you renounce it if you spilled tea on it?
It’s not like we don’t have foolish young men or fascists in Ireland. He is Irish and one or the other of those.

  7. Dolores Delorean

He is so obviously not Irish and all the ‘bleatings’ of the ‘libtards’ will not make him so. He and his family arrived on our shores looking for a hand out – and now that hand is stretching even further. If the libtards want redemption – look after the homeless Irish who are dying on the streets – and gently – without placards.
