They do the same fake smile in every photo. The teeth are always apart. Who actually smiles like that?

    1. Quint

True. Do they EVER stop smiling? Bought some stuff from their shop in Greystones. Bland and tasteless, mostly. If they were ugly no one would give a shit about their food.

      1. classter

They are not so good-lucking that they would get a career out of it alone!

I didn’t know what they looked like when I bought the cookbook. It is pretty good.

    2. louislefronde

Heard they hired Jamie Oliver’s marketing and management team a couple of years ago…… smart boys, maybe I should go to them too.

  2. Gorev Mahagut

Never buy a recipe book that has more photos of the authors than it does of the food.

    1. Scooperman

I had forgotten about those lads. So wrong. Your boy on the left is in House of Cards.

  3. Bort

To revolutionize more profit by selling more of their product. Like any entrepreneur so fair play to them but let’s not pretend any health food or fitness are not trying to sell their next book.

  4. Adamski

Wow, there’s a lot of unbridled negativity and cynicism towards two entrepreneurs who have built a very successful business and brand from nothing. Does it matter that their look is part of their unique selling point or that they use it as marketing tool. I don’t think so.

You don’t like theirs smiles. The book has too many pictures. Who cares?!

Why can’t people praise hard work in this country without feeling the need to belittle and denigrate the efforts of others?

Well done Flynn twins! Keep it up.

        1. Daddy Wilson

Ahahahaha! What is with the rabid defensiveness here?
And I am quite the handsome devil I’l have you know

      1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

It was always an essay question in the Leaving Cert, or at least it was in mine:
        “Ireland: a nation of begrudgers?”

    1. Tish Mahorey

“Wow, there’s a lot of unbridled negativity and cynicism towards two entrepreneurs who have built a very successful business and brand from ”

Oh shut up you bleating brand slave. Most of us work hard every single day, harder than these lads who have connections in all the right places and surrounded by sycophantic media darlings.

People are just sick of them. That’s legitimate and we have a right to moan about it.

So go back to your little Smurfit marketing MBA there and instagram your lunch to someone who gives a toss.

      1. LW

What connections have they? Did they make them themselves? Do they really deserve absolutely no recognition for building a business?

      2. Adamski

Sorry Tish, but your generalisations are wrong. For starts I’m a soldier, not a Smurfit MBA, and secondly I knew the guys when they were in school. They worked hard then, and they work hard now.

        1. Tish Mahorey

Fair enough Adamski, called you out incorrectly as a sycophantic media slave who adores anyone who has a high public profile.

I work harder than these lads though. You can be sure of it.

          1. Nigel

Tish, you have no idea how hard these lads work. Tony, you have no idea how hard Tish works. Stop casting asparaguses.

          2. Tony

nobody that bitter and self righteous ever actually works hard. Ever. Any effort goes into spouting off and then defending their moronic opinions. This is always true. No exceptions.

      3. jambon

They are boring, uninformed gastrothicks masquerading as sages. It’s infuriating that they are given aplatform to spread ignorance masquerading as passion and/or knowledge. Just like the rest of the Louis Walsh school of food fakers anyone with an ounce of intelligence does their best to ignore: Donal Skehan, Roz Purcell, The Drippy Pears, Clodagh McKenna and so forth.

          1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Nah. I love listening to people having a good aul rant when I’ve had a few scoops.

          2. Tish Mahorey

“You sound like an awful person to go for a pint with.”

You mean YOU wouldn’t like it.

I for one, think I’d really enjoy a pint with Jambon calling out all the fakers and shakers churned out by their mates in PR and Media.

And I LOVE a good old rant over a few pints. It’s great. Positivity for the sake of it is exhausting and boring.

          3. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

            Can I come too?

I love pints and I never heard of these two drips in me life until now.
It would be great to think that I would never hear of them again, and I’ll buy a drink for anyone who never mentions them.

      4. Nigel

‘Legitimate right to moan’ oh my God, the entitlement of the begrudger. ‘They’re smiling wrong, the bastards!’ Seriously? I don’t know these guys, maybe they’re annoying, but the pettiness is unedifying, and aggrandising it to an angry righteousness is comical.

        1. J

          I laughed .

On another note. Anyone know where I can watch ” The Affair” online ( for free) ? Send me a link. I have googled and tried various sites but am having no luck.

          1. Bertie Blenkinsop

Ruth is not as deranged, therefore not as sexy, in The Affair as she was in Luther.

          2. Bertie Blenkinsop

Don’t get me wrong, she’s still all kinds of fabulous but when she was in Luther I was licking the telly.

          3. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Me. Well, that’s not true. I was licking Luther.
Though Idris Elba is an enormous tool in real life, sadly. Well, any interview I’ve seen with him he’s been painful.

          4. Dόn 'The Unstoppable Force' Pídgéόní

You should all try fancying them both…

Look, clearly, we all just need to watch Idris in Luther and ignore the awful music he makes and just think about him arresting us with sexy results.

          5. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

My sister uses a picture of Idris Elba on her Facebook profile, apparently.
I’d find that disturbing if I was on Facebook, but I’m not on Facebook..

            It might not be true.
Idris Elba is an awful liar.
I don’t know where he got my telephone number.

          6. The Key of G

Enormous tools? Getting naked it all the time? This site has gone a bit Blackpool

        1. Tish Mahorey

That wasn’t me by the way. There is more than one person with similar opinions to mine.

      1. Dόn 'The Unstoppable Force' Pídgéόní

Step away straights, this thread is no longer for us

  5. Quint

So Late Late Show can’t be even bothered with decent guests anymore. They used to at least have one UK celebrity over every week promoting a book but they don’t even bother with that anymore. Just the same old faces that have been on every TV show and newspaper supplement by now. How many times has Christy Moore been on at this stage? Is there anything we don’t know about him left to be revealed?

    1. ivan

Read the Patrick Freyne article in the Times from a few Saturdays back. They’ve given up on chasing guests and work on the basis that “Irish people like to see themselves on telly”.

This complacency (or success, depending on your view) will continue as long as people continue to watch The Late Late in their droves.

      Which they do.

      1. Tish Mahorey

        “Which they do.”

Not compared to the % of the population who watched pursed lips Gaybo.

        1. ivan

I don’t know. I’m going by the article that Freyne (who’s no fan of the show) wrote. It must be worth doing or RTE wouldn’t do it, right? I mean, it has to be cheaper to slap on a movie than spend the production costs money week on week, so the viewing figures must bear it out.

I will advance the theory that of the under 50s, they can be broken into a myriad of groups.
          a) those that go out and so don’t matter anyway
          b) those that stay in and will watch stuff like Netflix
          c) those that stay in and watch pre-recorded stuff off the Sky Planner/DVD
          d) have better things to do than watch telly

In other words, I’d guess that the largest demographic of people watching LIVE TV on a Friday evening are over 50s, so it might be easy to appeal to them, even if they’re only 10% of the group of people sitting on their swiss-rolls in front of the box of a Friday…

the entirety of this post is supposition on my part :) apart from the bit about the show getting the ratings. I read that.

  6. pedeyw

It’s a lot of fun to read to angry posts about vegans whenever anything vegetarian/vegan comes up.

    1. Mr. Camomile T

The irony is that most of the complaints are about vegans being preachy and sanctimonious, but the comments sections are full of prejudicial rants by non-vegans, coupled with a relative silence by those of a vegan or vegetarian persuasion. Vegans are a bit like muslims – the radical minority tend to give the moderate majority a bad rep. (I don’t consider the Happy Pear to be part of the radical minority.)

      1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Are there really that many vegans out there? I don’t know any. And I know literally tens of people.

      2. pedeyw

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I mean. Funny thing is most people have probably chatted to/work with/hung out with vegetarians or vegans who weren’t of the preachy variety without realising it. The same thing happens with people who use phrases like “PC brigade” or “SJW”. Very angry and very vocal but without the any sense of irony that they’re being way more ridiculous (generally) than those whom they’re angry at.

      3. some old queen

Yes. Anytime someone declares their personal choice is be meat free there is always some moron within ten feet who will scream ‘I LOVE MEAT’. This despite the fact nobody asked him, and it is always a ‘him’.

Personally, I find people who are meat free are also very good cooks. Pulses are bland so they know their way around a spice rack and can be quite adventurous. It doesn’t mean everyone should become vegans but the meat and two veg mindset is dull… and also quite expensive.

  7. some old queen

Have them washed and sent to my room please. On second thoughts, don’t have them washed.

    1. Dόn 'The Unstoppable Force' Pídgéόní

I’d get to them before ahjayzis in that case… :P

      1. ahjayzis

I intend to slather them in bacon grease, you might want to wash them after all, or put a sheet down ;o)

        You can’t spit-roast a turnip, like.

  8. moel

mental health is to celebs of the 2010’s what alcoholism was to celebs of the 1990’s

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

I must admit, I have called myself Tony on more than one occasion.
Ever since I was a kid, actually.
But I would NEVER call myself Tony on Broadsheet though, because that’s my real name. Don’t tell anyone.
      -And I’m also very nice.

I wrote a song about you, formed a band and made a video. You can see it if you click my name.
