Charging Ahead

Gavan Reilly, of Today FM, reports:

[Independent Alliance TD John Halligan] says he’s likely to vote against the government in the Dáil this week.

John Halligan says he will probably support a cross-party motion signed by 39 TDs, calling for the immediate abolition of domestic water charges.

The motion is set to go to a vote in the Dáil tomorrow night – just seven days after Halligan was given a junior ministry at the Department of Jobs.

When wheel have already been set in motion for the water charges to be abolished. What exactly is the point of this?

Or perhaps he is representing his constituents since he ran on abolishing water charges as part of his platform, but that explanation doesn’t suit your FG bias does it.

You mean the water charges that are currently suspended and will soon be abolished?

Which he knew was happening before he agreed to go into government?

Grandstanding for the sake of it.

Water charges are not suspended, bills are still being issued and the ones already issued are due for payment. Also there is no guarantee that the charges will be abolished at some point in the future, if there were then why not just vote to do it tomorrow.

    He’s changed his tune

A big fan of service charges is John
He even resigned from the workers party so he could defend service charges

    So
    Another Independent changing their Colours

Syria, refugees, terrorism, Brexit, Trump, ISIS, Austrians electing a rabid right-winger, gangland murders at will, homelessness, etc, etc……. a this is what our elected representatives feel requires their urgent attention.

Yes. Yes the Irish government should not trouble themselves with issues that affect the lives of Irish people and instead be working hard on the American election and British referendum and middle eastern war.

Nearly 1800 kids living in emergency accommodation..as in HOMELESS…and this is the issue THEY think is very important…Jesus wept.

SF also spearheaded the formation of the all-party committee on homelessness, due to report in two weeks. So they acted on that first, presumably because it was priority 1.
