Interesting that they don’t mention that the entire UK labour party grassroots seem to be very much opposed to the idea of ousting the guy, or that the chilcot report is due out next week and is set to name a lot of those 172 MPs and make their political careers somewhat more difficult…

Grassroots aren’t representative of the wider electorate so wouldn’t use them as a barometer.

Corbyn is not electable as PM. Labour can take advantage of the Tories position now, but under Corbyn that will never happen and they’ll miss the opportunity to go back in to power and perhaps even take UK back in to the EU.

    2. Twunt

Interesting that Labour had many new members sign up in the run-up to the election for the party leader.

If there is a GE now, they would be obliterated.

“is set to name a lot of those 172 MPs and make their political careers somewhat more difficult”

Really? Who? Most of the people in Blair’s cabinet at the time are gone from Westminster.

Truth is we don’t actually know what the Labour grassroots think.

I’m sure Corbyn will have lost quite a lot of support since he was elected. He has been pretty tepid & he was pretty poor during the EURef campaign, which much of his youthful support was in favour of.

Likely he could still be reelected by them if it did go to a ballot but when you have almost no support amongst your MPs you are on a hiding to nothing.

Interesting. They never wanted him there in the first place.
I hope he hangs on for another bit. Or puts himself forward for re-election.

  3. Mark Dennehy

Actual figures btw, were 172 for, 40 against, 13 abstain and 4 spoiled ballots.

No explanation for how four professional politicians spoil their ballots yet…

He will of course go forward for the Leadership vote again. And will likely win. And then be in the hot seat for the next election. But between then and now he’ll have to deal with a very inexperienced front bench that won’t get a whole lot of help from their back benchers. And if their Brexit campaign is anything to go by, they haven’t learned anything from the General Election.

So I see Labour getting crushed in the next election. Again. With UKIP taking a fair percentage of their votes. Corbyn may have the support of the Unions and the party members, but when your best talent doesn’t want to work with the boss, then you’re in some awful trouble.

He could potentially even be replaced as leader of the opposition by Angus Robertson of SNP

This is just crazy. Though I’m pro Brexit, I don’t see how, Corbyn being consigned to the dustbin and Boris Johnson being rocketed to the top, is a good thing? Johnson is a buffoon and Corbyn was the shining hope for the left and the worker. Labour party have shot themselves in the foot once again. Time for a new left in the UK.

      Indeed.

Labour chooses to tear itself apart at precisely the time that they should be capitalising on the Conservatives very deep problems.

      1. classter

Nope, there could be a general election this year.

With Corbyn as leader, it is now clear that the Tories would win handily.

  6. Mourinho

    Corbyn says suck it!!!

    Good man.

“I was democratically elected leader of our party for a new kind of politics by 60% of Labour members and supporters, and I will not betray them by resigning. Today’s vote by MPs has no constitutional legitimacy.”

Listen, seriously, i see an opportunity here for the labour party, the Irish labour party.
Also known as ehh, hard labour and would propose, that Pat Rabbit would be the ideal, use that word advisedly, candidate, to lead such an adventure.
Pat could take over, Uk labour and well Bob`s yer uncle and Maisie`s yer, well not sure on that.
But it would be fairly lively.

Well, Scotland have a leader who appears to be in charge. She wants out of UK. Perhaps a reverse takeover where Scotland gets to be in charge of England?

Given events over past few days, it could happen!

  8. Cynic3000

If most party members want him to stay and most Labour MPs want him out, then there lies the problem. A failure of MPs to connect with the people.

Politics has been corrupted by outside forces who manipulate the narrative through their media empires and controlled politicians.

People kind of know that but they’re too lazy and too cowardly to stand up to it.

    1. Rob_G

The Labour grassroots are a few tens of thousands of people; the Labour leader will need to win over tens of millions of people in order to beat the Tories

I don’t live or work in the UK.

    BUT I love drama.

It’s like fair city or ros na rùiń.

Angela Eagle’s name is emerging as a possible ‘unity candidate’ replacement.

Would be the first openly gay leader of a national party in the UK? (I’m discounting Scottish Labour and Scottish Tories)

  11. Mulder

If that be her real name Angela Eagle, can imagine, the Sun`s headline, the eagle has landed.
    Eagle eyed.
One flew over the cuckoo`s nest.
Though the sun be kind of tory, unless it be Tony Blair and his time as leader.
