That’s one way to make a name for yourself.
Now that it’s out there I think it’s kind of inevitable. Who will be the next leader is the question?
I’ve always been an fan of Varadkar since he came on the scene but went off him and little over the last election. I’m leaning and little towards Coveny now but would really like to see what he comes back with on housing after the summer.
Varadkar’s public persona is opinionless vanilla. Never said anything apt or memorable or resembling natural leader’s thinking. Wallpaper.
That is the least accurate assessment of Varadkar, who regularly speaks out of turn, that I’ve seen
I think that used to be the case, but more recently he seems to be more on message.
It’s not too long since he was riling up FF and the Indies during govt formation
+1
The Indo will back him. I remember when this was the front page:

Which reminds me, ever heard of Pinkwashing?

The money is with Coveney
obvious troll is obvious
TL;DR = “Be afraid, Fianna Fail are coming! I also sense an opportunity to further my career.”
apart from the ugly, scabrous and half-demented tone and content, are there no eyebrow clippers in Kerry?
Someone other than Healy Ray is putting it up to them in Dublin
Was all he needed ta’say
Ah yes, Bernard Griffin, safeguarding Fine Gael core values and principles since 2011.
Griffin is a former member of Kerry County Council. When he was elected as a TD, he hired his wife as his secretarial assistant and his cousin as his parliamentary assistant. Griffin said his wife “is the best person for the job” who just happens to be his wife. Both these positions were filled without interview. Griffin also helped his other cousin to get his old council seat. He said his cousin was the best “person for the job” who “happens to be my cousin”.

Fine Heal and core values?
The Main (witha capital m) leading that party gave up on any core values when he put his own ego first to be the first consecutive FG Taoiseach. A kick in the teeth for party members and then there’s poor Labour. Nuff said!
Main?
*Muppet!
Didn’t he commit some (half?) of his Dail salary to keep a teacher employed in a local National School. Did he actually do so and for what length of time.
Patronage of this type isn’t at all acceptable IMO.
Why not hire his wife in a fairly low level position? Presumably he knows they work well together and can do the job, FFS.
“Griffin also helped his other cousin to get his old council seat” – onus is on whomever sealed the candidate for position.
Well ultimately yes but (as the linked article states) Griffin seconded his cousin’s nomination at the convention held to fill the seat.
I couldn’t see Kenny lasting the summer before this statement, but I don’t see the benefit of making it. To the party at least, I suppose it’s making a name for Griffin or whatever, but I don’t see how this public backstabbing is going to endear FG to the electorate. Is there anything to be said for examining their policies, in order to make themselves more attractive, instead of this tea-leaf reading and blaming Kenny. I’m no fan of Kenny, but the trio in waiting had a big part in the election strategy too, it’s not like the party is going to be changed significantly when Varadkar gets the reins
…the FFers are playing a blinder at the moment so it won’t matter who the blueshirts crown next…Frillys FF+SF+Soc Dems looking more likely by the day…in the r̶e̶p̶u̶b̶l̶i̶c̶a̶n̶ national interest…
They won’t go in with SF in a fit
…never…never…never…where have I heard that before?
From all the main parties on SF? And it’s been the only thing they didn’t lie about?
…was it not the Shinners who kept their promise not to go into government unless they were the ‘main’ party…anyway, next time round there will be an ‘accommodation’.
No, it was everyone else and has been for the last 20 years
…nobody told the DUP…
Maybe if SF start killing more people in the South they might negotiate themselves into government in about 30 years.
A party of careerist snakes and bottom-crawling corporate scorpions. a grim way to use use up one’s time on earth.
… as opposed to commenting on blog posts on same.
aw angry blushirt doesn’t like to hear some truths
dav. I hereby ban you from using the word “blushirt” ever again. ever. I’m so bored of it. just stop it.
Varadkar vile toe rag.. did NOTHING when in charge of HSE, expert at “tut tutting” and doing a running commentary on the failings of the health service like a spectator, yet was expert at disassociating himself from the area that was HIS responsibility. He “came out” is his only claim to fame.
There’s a lot of stigma associated with being a Minister For Health and it takes a lot of courage to come out of the Cabinet as one.
He got HUGE budget increases that would have kept people alive.
But yeah. Snide remarks about his sexuality. Cool.
He’s compliaing about lack of eelction readiness.
Remind me now, when was the last election? FFS!
70 days negotiating a cobbled together cabinet with junior ministerial jobs for all the boys to keep them quiet.
FF polls are rising (while still recovering from the recession that they left us with the last time).
They and only they will decide when the plug is pulled. the deal was to last 3 budgets but will be lucky if its just one.
