Donald Trump closes the republican National Congress in Cleveland, Ohio last night

The candidate said he’d restore
Security, jobs and much more
All good things must end
As we must attend
America, baptised in gore.

I saw an interesting comment on the Guardian this morning – “I kinda hope Trump gets elected the same way I kinda hope for a zombie apocalypse”

    sums it up, really.

You’d think with all that money he could get a decent fake tan

He should ask his wife what she uses. Possibly she doesn’t allow him to speak in her presence in private though.

          1. The Real Jane

Yes, she did look rather the hostage reading that cogged speech.

I wish I could get a job copying and pasting speeches for roboladies to read.

When you look at photos of himself and his current wife….. think of Jabba and Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi.

Donald Trump: the only American politician who can make Hillary Clinton look good by comparison.

The only one except for Ted Cruz, Chris Christe, Michelle Bachman, Jeb Bush, Sarah Palin… and I’m not a Clinton fan, particularly.

      1. MoyestWithExcitement

Bush and Christie would beat her. Cruz would have a very good chance. Bachmann and Palin are lunatics nobody takes seriously. Clinton is up against probably the only Rep candidate she can beat. Kasich, Walker, Rubio, even Fiorina would have done very well. She is seriously hated by lots of people.

Not to mention, aside from Benghazi, there are a lot of people who simply don’t think a woman could or should be President.

Indeed. Clinton is not an especially inspired or exciting candidate, but there’s nothing wrong with her that isn’t wrong with most of the western political elite at the moment. In any year, you would always have at least one fairly blandly corporate candidate and probably two. I’d say if the republicans could have found a man who was such a shoulder shruggingly safe choice, they’d have been delighted with themselves.

Trump is actually insane, but he is a man, so there’s lots of votes available for him for that reason alone.

Fact. Pundits seem to assume that most voters make their decisions for rational reasons and/or they assume every Trump supporter is a frothing at the mouth bigot, thus making more people feel like “The Establishment” hates or thinks little of them which in turn makes more people into Trump voters because he’s the “outsider”.

            1. Corbyn isn’t perfect either.
            2. That she’s no worse than most does not matter. Narrative and emotion are what wins. People will vote for who they like/trust. Lots and lots of working class white people do not trust Clinton and see themselves in the “self made” New Yorker.

Depends on the Republican – very conservatives ones do not like him but hate Hilary more and always vote Conservative. That isn’t so much support as well, I guess this guy

20+ years of continuous vitriol will do that to a person’s public image, especially a woman’s.

But hey, supposedly the media is on her side, right? Despite the free ride Trump has been getting.

      2. MoyestWithExcitement

Sanders would beat Trump and most of the other Republicans that went for it would beat Clinton yet both parties are running with their weakest chances. Politics.

I doubt Saunders would have won, I think most people would have just died rather than vote for either of them

I think Clinton is Trump’s perfect opponent. He’s a ‘man of the people’, an ‘outsider’ who thinks little of the Washington class. Clinton is an archetypal career politician who has shifted her views on several topics and whose husband was also Prez, further consolidating the image of her being upper class and unrelatable.

          2. The Real Jane

            Plus, she’s a lady.

Personally, I’d be very surprised if I met anyone who hadn’t changed their minds on several issues over the several decades that Mrs Clinton has been in the public eye. It would be a very peculiar person who didn’t think differently as the world changes and their experience of the world changes.

            I do too Moist

The debates (if Trump agrees to any) will be the most watched in the history of Presidential Debates imo

She’ll leave him crying and whimpering until he’s white again

          4. The Real Jane

And then he’ll make a crude remark about how she’s a ladyperson with hormones and probably doesn’t look like a model, so, you know…

          5. MoyestWithExcitement

I’ve no doubt she’ll come across far more knowledgeable and dignified but so did Jeb Bush and John Kasich.
