      We harbour ISIS.

You’re thinking of tourism, I think.
      Or maybe you’re just dreaming…

No – I think its like some sort of EU regulation thing – Germany the UK and France are the same. Sorry to be so vague.

I assumed that when someone was refused asylum they would be automatically deported but clearly not. So why are some being locked up in Mosney for years while others are allowed to roam free?

No idea – about the Mosney thing. What I’ve read on the subject is vague – probably because its stupid. You can be refused application and essentially disappear.

So presumably you can then apply under a different name. Or hop on the boat and try your luck in UK. Its easy to see how the system can become bogged down. There’s finger printing of course but then the information on its use is equally vague.

I think as a state, you can start out with the best of intentions and then end up with a system that then gets stymied by legal requirements and regulations.

Hence people hanging around in a limbo. Which is clearly in no ones best interest, neither the asylum seeker or the governments – that’s the system though and it seems to work like that everywhere – its not just an Irish thing.

I never understood that. Decisions need to be fair and fast. Leaving people in limbo for 5 or more years is a waste of lives and resources.
Either let people stay & make every effort to get into working society are quickly as possible.
Or if they are to go, then escort them from the country swiftly.

I think its a law thing. That’s famous for working slowly. Though in all honesty I don’t know. If you were to quickly access people and then chuck them out for failing to meet the “standard” a lot of people, on here, would be up in arms, claiming Enda was the reincarnation of Hitler or something like that.
And if you were to choose the German route you would soon end up with an unaffordable chaos, with people on here saying that the rich should be taxed to build a new inclusive society.
A notion that fails to take notice of the fact that, by and large, the rich are good at not paying taxes.

    I just thought of a good joke;

Hey, Moroccan rug dealer, call yourself an Irishman…?

That’s it. That was the joke.
    I give up.

Presume hijacking a plane & trying to crash it into targets.
Given that all transatlantic planes come through Irish airspace, its nuts not to have our own air force, capable of intercepting those planes.
