Ike and Tina owing to the broader understanding that domestic violence doesn’t mean that Nut Bush City Limits isn’t a great bloody tune…

  2. Maire

Has to be Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers ….. who can forget Islands in the Stream… who even heard of them :)

  3. scottser

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris owing to their heart-wrenching, heart-warming. heart-pounding harmonies. Like all beautiful things it lasted all-too short a time and their music is the one thing that reminds me to value the moment now before it disappears forever.

  4. Cloud

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Dolly Parton and her husband of 50 years Carl Dean, owing to the fact that he runs a road paving business in Nashville, never appears in public and basically stays out of her way.

  5. Boj

‘The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Sonny & Cher owing to it being one of the best easy going love ballads for the hippie generation’

    1. Dόn 'The Unstoppable Force' Pídgéόní

The latest internet theory is that Sandy is dead in Grease because Danny didn’t save her and therefore the whole movie is some weird death dream she is having.

      How about that then?

    2. Daisy Chainsaw

Ah Grease, where the moral of the story is to change everything about yourself to get the boy.

  6. Harry Molloy

It was Shane McGowan and Sinead O’Connor singing Haunted by the Ghost for the soundtrack of Sid ‘n Nancy.
The gravelly coarseness of McGowans voice vs the angelic purity of O’Connors.
It also has a great line “First time I saw you ,standing in the street ,you were so cool you could’ve put out Viet Nam”

      1. Cian

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that version. But I still prefer the McGowan-O’Connor duet. it gives me shivers down my spine.

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

It looks like I got here too late
Brendan, you’re the winner, me mate
      When you want a duet
      The best you can get
Is the one sung by Peter and Kate

  7. Murtles

There’s no tune like Frank and Nancy Sinatra singing “Something Stupid”. Lovely melody, vocals and harmonies.

  8. AnPreachan

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Jack and Meg White owing to the crazy good albums they made and their commitment to their ideals (well probably Jack Whites ideals about how music should be made)

  9. Yupyup

A little less obvious one has to be the unexpected and wholly listenable ‘Raising Sand’ album by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Cracking album

        1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

          Yes, today is my birthday.
I’m 15 and I’m allowed stay up an extra hour at night time.
Sorry, I mean I’m 55 and I’m allowed stay up later now.

          1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

            Thank you.
The only others who wished me a Happy Birthday were family members, but I got a couple of warm hugs so I got that going for me.

Now, I need an excuse to knock in to my sexy next-door neighbour and get a hug off of her… can you think of anything?

          2. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

            Gold Blend…
-Why didn’t I think of that?

I can fabricate a juicy fat one, present it to her and tell it ‘cum strait’ out’ta Jamaica.
Mi caal it de golden blen’, seen, ‘cos me 16 carrots or more’.

            Sorry Bertie.
            That’s actually a good idea.
Unfortunately I didn’t see it until after my birthday.
12 minutes is not enough for me to walk all the way next-door. I can’t just hop over the fence, they keep making it higher all the time. I have to walk around the long way.

          3. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

            PS.
My next-door neighbour thinks I’m Jamaican.
It’s a stupid thing that’s been going on for about 12yrs now and I accept full responsibility for it.
I can’t break her heart now, can I?

  10. Anne

Has to be Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MaColl, Fairytale of New York… chemistry, Irish Shtyle…’ya scumbag ya maggot ya cheap lousy flaggot’

  11. Frilly Keane

    Has ta’be Kenny and Dolly

A pairing that has outsold everyone else nominated here
    X10
    And that’s more than sum’ting

    At least

    Islands in the Stream
    That is what we are
    No one in between

    1. Dόn 'The Unstoppable Force' Pídgéόní

I’d just like to point out this is the 4th or 5th recommendation for this song. Because it is a fupping TOOOOOONNNNN!

      *dons chaps*

The greatest pairing would have to be Leonard Cohen and Jennifer Warnes owing to the beauty and purity of her voice with the smoky, gravelly tones of his. Their voices are a perfect foil for each other.

Have a listen to this. It is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, and a long time favourite, and absolutely NOT your typical love song.

  13. De Kloot

So much Dairlylea here…. I’m in!

There’s “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes

We also have “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes

    Are you spotting the trend…?

But, no in the spirit of cheesy duets I’ll enter with….

Lionel Richie and Diana Ross owing to Endless Love

  14. DizzyB

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Jay-Z and Beyoncé owing to that absolute dancefloor classic, Crazy in Love. An honourable mention also goes to Bonnie & Clyde and to their other ongoing collaboration, Blue Ivy.

  15. Daisy Chainsaw

‘The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Kylie and Jason because “Especially for You”. No more needs to be said (or sung!)

  16. pedeyw

Nick Cave and Kylie monogue. I’m not the biggest fan of either but there’s something haunting, beautiful and properly gothic about Where the Wild Roses Grow.

  17. carnie

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell owing to the fact the two are kindred spirits and Royalty of Soul. They shared something wonderful and it felt honest. I must now play You’re All I Need.

    1. Otis Blue

Or Staples with Isabella Rossellini on a Marriage Made in Heaven.

Not forgetting The Vaseline’s (Eugene Kelly & France’s McKee) singing Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam

  18. Sonar

‘The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Motorhead (all the boys) and Girlschool (all the girls) owing to the sheer brilliance of Please Don’t Touch and also the multiples of men/women pairings- mega tune for a grey Friday ’

  19. ivan

    Haunted is a good call.

correct answer is Neil Tennant and Dusty Springfield doing What Have I Done To Deserve This.

  20. Liam Deliverance

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli – Time to say Goodbye (Con te partirò) owing to their magnificient voices, lovely orchestral arrangement, great video, goosebumps, and sure you’d be singing it to yourself all day.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3ENX3aHlqU

Also without it we would never have gotten this classic moment from Stepbrothers, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly – Por Ti Volare, magnificient voice and percussion, arrangement and goosebumps!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6dE0DckMHY

  21. Ouch

Michael Stipe and Kirsten Hershey – Your Ghost is still as amazing as the first time I heard it on Dave Fanning

    1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Oh yeah. That’s a *lovely* song. Hersh, I think.
I think last night, you were driving circles around me

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Hedwig and the Angry Inch, owing to the fact that Hedwig was both man and woman.

The greatest man/woman pairing in music is Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox owing to her retiring and not putting out any more ‘music’.

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

Liam, I’m sorry but you won’t be winning.
The winning song is going to be played at 10am. on Monday morning on the radio. Did you not read that bit?
      Nick Cave doesn’t win prizes.

Look, here’s Bongwater again, (Anne Magnuson and Kramer two artists of exceptional quality) doing a song called ‘Nick Cave Dolls’.
Do you think I’m going to win?
      No, you’re wrong. I won’t win.

Anyway, this is about me third or fourth time posting this ‘song’ on Broadsheet.
It keeps getting deleted, I think….
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAWW-jTcxa8

But yeah, Nick Cave on Monday morning…
      Eh….

  25. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

I know none of you love Bongwater like I do.
You certainly wouldn’t listen to a song by them called ‘Decadent Iranian Country Club’, would you?

What if I told you that the following link skips the song completely and starts at the funny bit at the end and it’s only 40 seconds long and it’s all done in an irritating squeaky voice? You might click it then, mightn’t you?

    It’s the weekend.
    Knock yourselves out.
