Lester Holt and Hillary Clinton before Monday night’s US presidential Election debate

Further to Monday’s US Presidential debate…

Which brings us to [debate moderator[ Lester Holt and the accusations that he tipped Monday’s debate in favor of Hillary Clinton. Holt’s bias was obvious, but the impact was not inevitable. It mattered largely because, shockingly, Donald Trump was shocked that Holt was in the tank for Clinton.

How could Trump not see that coming? And if he did, why wasn’t he better prepared?

…It was outrageous — but no surprise. After all, Holt is part of the Big Media establishment that has uniformly protected President Obama and broken all its own standards to trash Trump and elect Clinton.

…It’s possible that anti-media sentiment could help decide the election. The nationwide numbers suggest the possibility.

A recent Gallup survey found a new low in public trust of the media, with only 32 percent of Americans saying they have a great deal or some trust in newspapers, TV and radio “to report the news fully, accurately and fairly.” Trust fell eight points in one year alone and is only 14 percent among Republicans.

In a change election where both candidates have historically high negative ratings, many voters could make their choice for secondary reasons.

Voting against the other candidate is the most likely option, while voting against the media as a proxy for voting against the establishment is emerging as another.

In that case, the news media could be more than part of the story. They could be the story.

FIGHT!

We watched the first 20 minutes last night – we watch everything in painfully small installments after the baby goes to sleep – and that was apparently Trump’s best bit. He was actually very poor indeed. He hasn’t a single coherent idea on any topic at all. Plus, he’s obsessed with both China and Mexico – the extent is a bit unnerving after a few mentions.

Journalists always think the media is more important than it is. There may be crochet circles who think the election will be won or lost on doilies.

It is possible “to report the news fully, accurately and fairly” AND constantly bash Trump’s phenomenal ineptitude. The two are not mutually exclusive.

It’s like the BAI’s version of balance, isn’t it? Enough about the Titanic, let’s hear from the iceberg for a while.

  4. MoyestWithExcitement

He barely corrected any of Trump’s lies and let Trump run over him several times. Biased? That’s just what idiots tell themselves to feel better about Trump’s humiliation and/or Clinton’s fine performance.

Its a fair point that people are looking for reasons why not to vote for either of them but saying Lester Holt was biased really is scraping the bottom of the barrel. No amount of deflection will conceal the fact that the orangutan is solely responsible for what comes out of his mouth.

Trump was whining about Holt’s bias, saying he was a Democrat before the debate.
    Holt is a registered Republican.

Trump blamed the mic, says he never said climate change was a hoax by the Chinese, never said Clinton didn’t look presidential.

He blames everyone but leave out that he was totally unprepared, is unqualified, incapable and is a farce at this stage.

You know, it’s an interesting point to note. Publicly, Trump dislikes to accept personal responsibility or any kind of accountability for his own words. That may well be ok when you have a running opponent to deflect onto but the American public won’t like that in a president.

      1. DubLoony

He gave a great example of that when it was pointed out that he was sued by the authorities for not allowing minorities to rent apartments in his building in the 70s.

He settled out of court but at the debate he tried to divert personal responsibility by say that many others were doing the same thing as well.

Whats that? Bodger posting a conspiracy theory? And one that shows how the ‘establishment’ is against Donald Trump? Well I am shocked.

  9. Junkface

I watched the debate and I didn’t think there was a bias against Trump. In fact he let Trump constantly interupt Hilary with schoolyard tactics and shouting. Surely the moderator should have cut him off from doing that, or reprimanded him.
Anyway Trump is well capable of making anyone look biased against him once his blabbermouth, frothing, barking diarrhea begins to pour out. A persons natural reaction is to just sit there, jaw open, looking perplexed. He digs his own holes

new yorker here. gerson is a long time bought and paid for rightwing shill. and the media outlets LOVE trump. he hasn’t had to run any ads yet, at least around here, because he gets saturation coverage, endless repetition of his message (if you want to call what he has to say a “message”). read that article only to tick off boiler room talking points.

Selling paper / TV ad more important that putting an idiot in the Whitehouse – God, its depressing.

They can also turn on him on a dime in the final few days before the vote, once they sense he has served his purpose for them. Fingers crossed!

Trump was constantly talking over him and interrupted ClintonBOT 50+ times compared to around 17 according to some boffin….who was bothered to check…

None of it matters but Trump is still gonna win….

…Obama just pledged $38billion in military aid to Netanyahu…they’ll be able to kill a lot of Palestinian kids with that..

      1. Jusayinlike

Too late bibi hates him for the Iran deal and is punishing with his breitbart mossad rag bashing Hillary Clinton

  12. Neilo

Not even remotely, I’d say. The Democrats – despite an increasingly wavering stance on Israel – continue to lock down the Jewish vote.

  13. Jusayinlike

Yeah like that matters when tyrants like Bibi Netanyahu throw their lot behind mafia front men like Donald Trump
