UCD’s turned out to be quite the white elephant. Guzzling through the cash. No stopping it. As the Jesuits used to say, you can’t put a price on education. And sure if it all goes belly up, it’s not the administrators’ problem whose higher purpose is a bigger house or a newer car. Sure the new Chinese middle classes have an insatiable demand for “Western education”, and lots of second/third tier universities are tapping in to that market, but “Western education” may not always be fashionable and what’s for sale may not always be desirable from a quality:cost point of view.

Ireland has one of the most concentrated media markets of any democracy.
The report concludes that there is a perfect storm created by the combination of the highly concentrated Irish media market along with shortcomings in the Irish defamation regime…… Taken together, these features threaten news plurality and undermine the media’s ability to perform its vital watchdog function.
