You Paid, He Played

Bill Clinton and Enda Kenny at a Clinton Foundation event at New York University in February, 2012

As you may be aware Irish Aid, the Government development agency, donated $5 million to $10 million to the Clinton Foundation.

Further to this.

For years, Clinton partisans have blindly defended every criticism of the Clinton Foundation by pointing to the good work the charity has done.

But the WikiLeaks emails from John Podesta, Hillary Clinton‘s campaign chair, have confirmed nearly every criticism of the Clinton Foundation, debunking the claim that it is solely a philanthropic endeavor run by the Clintons.

Jeff Stein, a writer at the generally pro-Clinton Vox, rescinded previous claims he made that the Clinton Foundation wasn’t used to personally enrich the family’s wealth after WikiLeaks released an email revealing Chelsea Clinton used the foundation to direct investors to her husband’s hedge fund and treated Clinton Foundation funds as a personal bank account.

“His raising money for his own fund hasn’t been going well and he has cvc making some calls for him to get mtgs with some clinton people,”

Teneo president Doug Band, who has some close ties with the foundation, wrote in a January 2012 email to Podesta and other Clinton staff:

“Marc has invited several potential investors and a few current business ones to the poker night. I assume all are contributing to the foundation, which of course isn’t the point. What is the point is that he is doing precisely what he accused me of doing as the entire plan of his has been to use this for his business which he is.”

Previously-released emails have revealed a pay-to-play exchange between the government of Morocco and then-Secretary of State Clinton. Ukrainian billionaire Victor Pinchuk used his prolific donations to the Clinton Foundation to solicit political favors….

Ignoring transgressions by certain rich businessmen is only a bad thing when the newspapers owned by DOB do it.

Where is the hat eating and the pro-Clinton post which you had promised would be posted this morning?

    1. Termagant

The preparation of a good hat is not something to be rushed. Depending on the fabric and style it should be marinated at room temperature for at least 4 to 6 hours before being slow roasted in goosefat.

    2. Tony

Yes Bodger. Are you a man/woman of your word or a big spoofer whose actual promises count for nothing? The first one lets hope

    Dear Donald,
    I just had a brainwave…
If you say tomorrow that you were a shill for Hillary all along, that you wanted to lose…
You’d save face, reduce your blood pressure and not instigate civil war on the streets. It would be cool.
You could be a loser, but look like a winner.

That’s what you normally do anyway, isn’t it?

In an election where Trump hadn’t raised the bar on venal behaviour and the Republican Party hadn’t turned every minor transgression into Supreme Evil, this, if true, would be a bombshell. You’re like the generals leading cavalry charges at machine gun nests in World War One – fighting the last election. I’m sorry. It’s horrible, I know. I hope this is the low tide and next time things go back to their normal pitch of hysteria rather than getting ratcheted even further. I’d prefer if this was an election where this was a bombshell. I really do. In attempting to provide a corrective, Bodger nibbled the red pill and ended up just generating more noise.

The right produced so many stupid lies and conspiracy theories when simple truths would have been more effective, but you can’t rely on simple truths when your candidate is a cartoon like Trump. You can’t attack Clinton’s foreign policy when your party is militaristic and hawkish and the person you want to put in charge of your hawkish and militaristic foreign policy is Trump, who can’t be trusted with a Twitter account. Bodger didn’t have to buy their line to tell truths about Clinton. Nobody did. They chose to because it was easier and they like the lulz. That’s sowing the wind, one way or another. Now reap the lulwind.

    1. Yep

“You can’t attack Clinton’s foreign policy when..” of course ye can! ;)

Anyway, I think Noel Rock is to blame for Libya.

    Observer – interesting.

Seems a tad polemic and scattergun for The Observer.

Oh silly me it’s not the Observer. It’s a different one.

    *clicks About*

    Publisher – Jared Kushner

    1. PaddyM

That Jared Kushner being the husband of one Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law and adviser to You-Know-Who.

The New York Observer is Kushner’s vanity publication.. Not that Bodger bothered to make the distinction between it and the British newspaper of the same name clear.

Broadsheet. Now making Alive! look like a model of responsible journalism.

these last few emails show chelsea and band whining to podesta and accusing each other of using the foundation, but dont quite offer proof, did the poker night go ahead?

  6. Boy M5

Amazing how oblivious so many people are to this potential billions dollar fraud, just because the opponent is Trump. As if that makes the CF scandal not so bad.

Bribes for political favours is exactly what ruins democracy. It is just as subverting as an actual coup.

    1. Nigel

Unless it turns out to be like the new e-mail investigation. Almost as if it’s too close to the election for a proper assessment.

      1. Termagant

The email investigation was always a shot in the dark. The CF investigation has a lot more to recommend it. We didn’t know what was in the emails, we do know for a fact that Frank Giustra has very close ties with Bill through the CGEP and CGSGI, donated millions to CF (and later became a CF boardmember) and subsequently achieved decisions and blind-eyes that were to his great advantage. Such as Hillary rotating on the Colombia Free Trade Deal for no reason whatsoever, and then giving a rubber stamp of approval to Colombia’s human rights record despite being fully aware of Pacific Rubiales (a company in which Giustra is a major investor) collaborated with the Colombian government to force workers off the picketline at gunpoint. And that’s not even lifting the lid on Giustra’s involvement with UrAsia, Rosatom and UraniumOne.

        1. Nigel

Imagine what something this would have accomplished in the hands of an effective opposition with a viable candidate. If true.

    2. SomeChump

The Telegraph contacted both campaigns offering an illegal donations from a Chinese business man in return for access to the president should they be elected. Trumps campaign said they would accept Hillary’s didn’t.

      1. Boy M5

“Trumps campaign said they would accept Hillary’s didn’t.”

More than likely knew it was a fix up.

  7. Listrade

There was always a need to highlight this issue, this was the clincher way over any other issue in the emails. I don’t think it right to play the “Trump is worse” card or similar tit for tat.

I guess the only comment is that this also shows the mainstream media has covered it, even a simple Google news search shows that. There was no need to post links to alt-right websites as has been done in the past. That is what inflamed most people, that and pushing their over the top conspiracy theories when the real scandal was always there and was reported on, though I’d agree not pushed heavily enough. That is true of the numerous Trump financial issues also.

@kurteichenwald did has been doing a very thorough breakdown on twitter of Trump the last two days (last night in particular) worth a read to see similar “irregularities”.

  8. :-Joe

People expect nothing less from the clintons at this stage but now that legacy of yours really is gettin better every week…. You probabably should have had your own schoolteacher strike on your second day after all the photos and the tay n’ cakes.

    Good man yer’self !!… haha…

  9. Paddy

Apart from the Irish Aid money directly given to Clinton’s, there’s more taxpayers money after being donated – seeing as a certain FG friend gets bailouts, underpriced property, lucrative government contracts etc. and he then donates, Ireland’s taxpayers are a major donator to this slush fund.

  10. Jack Ascinine

Hell, even the celebrity laden, left leaning Vanity Fair magazine ripped the ass out of Hillary and the Foundation. All it takes is people reading the material that’s out there for themselves to see what has been really going on. But that’s the crux isn’t it, people reading more than 140 characters at a time and wanting to understand what’s going on. Entire books have been written about the corruption of the Clintons since the ’90s and now we’re hoping that the micro-attention spans of millennials and uneducated Americans will somehow absorb this material?

    1. SOQ

The Clintons are what they are but the electorate are about give their opposition an absolute kick in the ass. You can argue ignorance but a very wealthy man who has never seen a poor day in his life playing to the disenfranchised is as fake as it gets, even by American standards.

  11. The Lady Vanishes

Meanwhile the Hilaryites ceaselessly whine: “but if you criticise OR even cover others’ criticism of our girl, you’re a Trump lover/chauvinist/conspiracytheorist/lonercrouchedoveragasheater.”

I mean really. Way to shut down political debate.

The attitude of Hilary’s supporters to those who disagree (or even question) Prevailing Pantsuit Propaganda completely belies all she (and they) claim to stand for.

    1. Nigel

Yeah why can’t every stupid lie and batty conspiracy theory and 4chan trolling effort be treated with seriousness and respect? Clinton clearly stood on a platform of treating stupid lies and batty conspiracy theories and 4chan trolling efforts with serious respect. A barrage of this nonsense gets thrown at the wall and then you get miffed when people treat it with skepticism and even derision? That IS political debate these days.

      1. The Lady Vanishes

I wouldn’t describe this post, for instance, as a stupid lie/batty conspiracy theory.

And yet it’s treated as such.

What is your view on the Clinton Foundation? Do you not think that there are things about it which raise questions, which have not been fully answered? Do you not think that these are things which should be answered, when one Clinton is running for Madam President, and if she gets in the other one will be Mr President? Yet the response to this post is: Broadsheet is just picking on Hillary again.

If you’re going to justify attacking Hillary backers as wacky conspiracy theorists, then you should do so in relation to wacky conspiracy theories, not genuine concerns that require an answer.

          1. Clampers Outside

You’re using pointed questions, you’re being too specific ya big bully! You’ll be lookin’ for facts next…. then where will it end?! Feckin’ truth? The left can’t handle the truth any more! It’s scary ….because it’s complicated ! …and stuff…

            Yeah… so there… well done….

            Hey, how ’bout them bears?

        1. f_lawless

@The Lady Vanishes .I was wondering the same reading these comment sections of late. Is it some kind of weird group-think going on, that the debate is only seen in terms of “who’s side you’re on”?!
