Day 1 of Trump’s America. https://twitter.com/i/moments/796417517157830656
Bloody hell! That is… no words.
Nothing like giving voice to racism and then electing a racist to bring out the racists. Just like after Brexit. Everyone who gave him a voice is to blame. Everyone.
Imagine that, the Dems handed it to Trump through their own failure – something that has been touted, and now the facts are in.
Hillary fupped up dude, royally!
I reject that completely. The media felt it was their responsibility to give equal scrutiny and scorn to her email servers as to Trumps sexism, racism, outlandish populist promises and just general bulls**tery.
And I include Broadsheet.ie in that. Constantly re-tweeting wikileaks, when in the end there is nothing beyond typical politicking.
The entire media brought her down by claiming some false equivalency between her centrist positions and his madness.
Mind you the voter is equally to blame. Believe me when I tell you that even those with college degrees consume society through reality tv and that makes them the most gullible and ill-informed voters on the planet.
Fair enough, that’s your prerogative init.
Ok then!
…Hey DaithiG…you can’t blame Broadsheet…the only one on here who voted in the US election was Dan Boyle… mind you, with his record in championing causes lately he should hold himself personnally responsible for Trumps election
@Daithi so confirmation in Clinton’s own words via email that ” the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIL “, dispelling the previous official line “oh, it’s just some rogue princes from the region” doesn’t mean a whole lot to you? That the Clinton Foundation received donations from both those governments at the same time the campaign against Assad was stepped up and that Clinton’s State Department approved massive arms deals for the same two countries is all just “typical politicking”? Maybe it is. God help us all!
https://wikileaks.org/podesta-emails/emailid/3774
Read the whole email chain, actually, everybody else read it, because clearly f_lawless in favour of taking lines out of context.
And how am I taking it out of context? The context is that this is a private email with Clinton discussing government policy. The part I quoted shows Clinton mentioning in a matter of fact way that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are supporting ISIL logistically and financially. This is contrary to the US gov’t’s official line that those governments do not fund terrorism; contary to the continued assertion that, as those nations are allies in the fight against terrorism in the region, therefore the sale of massive amounts of US arms to them is justified.
That is the point I’m trying to make.
+1
Oooh double THIS.
Well said Daithi G.
Honestly think I’ll stick with placing the initial highest order of blame with the people who supported him and voted for him. WikiLeaks, the FBI and Russian hackers get a nod in there, too.
Stay is cuckoo land Nigel , it suits you :)
The self delusion is strong with this one.
Well, neither of you actually said anything other than a slightly mean thing each about my mental state. Nice.
You won, Cap. That must make you feel so awesome!
I like the bit where you stated facts and got called crazy. Because who needs facts now?
“stated facts” LOL
Is there a point? Or are you just being an ass?
I don’t get it. Why do you want the Democrats to take credit for your awesome win? You won! Bask in it!
You seem delighted that the worst outcome happened just because you get to gloat online.
Weird, man. Weird and sad.
A certain type of person thinks they have power back. I’m going to laugh my ass off when they work out it’s the same old but with added instability.
Here’s another demographic that puts paid to the myth that working class people delivered a Trump presidency. The low paid aren’t to blame for President Von Clownstick
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cw0OV_MXEAAm9QW.jpg:large
That’s a poll… when was it taken? Full link to that story per chance?
It’s an exit poll. It’s all over the Internet.
Cheers, hadn’t seen that one…. and just spent five mins looking for it, any links?
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/nov/09/white-voters-victory-donald-trump-exit-polls
Cheers again Daisy!
That’s because the low paid have a high concentration of blacks and Hispanics. A similar statistic but only on the white population would be more meaningful.
Like as if the Black and Latino vote doesn’t matter somehow?
I think he means they were never going to vote for the guy who called them rapists so they skew the statistics. Trump only won amongs whites – and currently there’s no crosslinking of income and ethnicity in the exit polls.
Yep, that’s exactly what I meant.
Actually, almost 1/3rd of Latinos votes for Trump.
A survey in Miami said that almost 60% of Cuban Americans voted for him, even though he lost big in that county.
However, to the original post, I somehow had the impression that you want to know the breakdown just among white voters, and that is a common question here, but what is also common and goes with that question here is the narrative that since there is suddenly a group of poor white Americans that it’s the economic, but when the Latinos and Blacks were the poor ones it was just because they were lazy.
Just to note, I’m not saying that’s what you meant to imply, it just came across that way.
Sorry, it;s been 2 days and I’m exceptionally miffed since I have to put up with the langer and his cohort of scumbags for the next 4 years.
Cubans generally vote Rep, interesting historical side note to Castro.
In fairness, I haven’t heard anyone touting the ‘poor’ voted for Trump.
What I have heard is those with ‘no college’ voted for Trump – 67% of them.
There may be a mix up somewhere… I dunno. Just thought I’d mention that.
Nonsense, the whole narrative here in the US is that the economically stressed across the Rust Belt voted for him because they lost jobs to Mexico/China bla bla bla.
Does economically stressed mean something other than poor these days?
…tis later now, reading more on those figs, cheers
Interesting figures
A politician, a newsreader and a statistician are hunting deer in America (because they can – (Murica!)
Politiician: “Damn – missed it 10 yards to the left”
Newsreader: “Damn – missed it 10 yards to the left”
Statistician: “We got him!!”
A politician, a newsreader and a statistician are hunting deer in America (because they can – (Murica!)
Politiician: “Damn – missed it 10 yards to the left”
Newsreader: “Damn – missed it 10 yards to the right”
Statistician: “We got him!!
I doubt ten yards is within the 95% CI
Actually, a mean based on the observed data [the target] would be exactly in the middle of the Confidence Interval – confidence intervals are, after all, based on observed information. However, no statistician would make a statement about anything based on a sample size of two.
[based on being an academic statistician and a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society]
Actually, it was the joke.
[Based on jokes]
They need to bring back The West Wing for four years
Or perhaps issues to do with voter suppression – as this is the first US Presidential campaign since the dilution of the efficacy of the Voting Rights Act.
Here is a good (reliable) source for particular states involved: http://www.brennancenter.org/voting-restrictions-first-time-2016
Then there is the issue of various states closing down polling stations [and not necessarily because they were serving a small population] making it difficult for poorer people to get to reach the polling stations and increasing queues at the remaining polling stations. Until detailed turnout figures are available on a county level [at the minimum] but ideally by polling location, it will be difficult to assess how much of an impact the 2013 Supreme Court ruling will have had.
+100
Cheers Dee !
And she still got more votes than Trump overall.
yeah… a whole 0.2% more !
Hey that’s 200,000 people!
I sure you would be just as dismissive if it was the other way around. Understandable how someone could think that their vote doesn’t matter.
I’d look more at the claim of winning the ‘popular vote’ …’tis pyrrhic at best considering the margin and campaign, me thinks
Most probably blacks not voting since there was no black candidate.
This won Trump the election:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R6dzZdceT4
Just this one event? No of course not, it’s unfortunate that the level of discourse on this site had devolved to such an extent that disclaimers to prevent the flippant and glib facetiousness that prevails among many users are necessary, but I digress. This climate, we can say it began with Occupy Wall Street, although most likely goes back further, of amorphous, undefined offence, that leads to acts of intimidation and violence like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kVGtqp7usw
And of course, the hand wringing and head shaking kicks into gear almost immediately, “but most liberal arent like, we’re the good guys!”, well, you’re not, this is happening wholesale across america and it’s this exact head in the sand mentality that won Trump the election. Another response is to smugly proclaim, “well, they deserve it for being not believing as we do”, or “well republicans were just as bad!”, without an ounce of shame, and if you do think that competing to be worse than with people you hate and justifying it because you’re “on the right side of history”, then you should be ashamed, you stooped lower, and it put a man you despise into office. Enjoy.
Everyone should calm down. Trump will be a pussycat president who will hire a team, give them orders, play golf and show his wife off at events. He will want more than anything to be loved, thats the sociopath in him- and loved by the masses, not the elite. That will guide focus him on making life better for as many as possible, because ehe believes in ratings not relationships. He is a loner and has no baggage or debts to anyone.
And as for all that stuff about building walls, women, immigrants- he lied. He wont do any of those things. Its what people do. Hillary Lied, Enda Lied and Tump lied. Get over it, and move on.
This would not surprise me. It’s the people he would devolve power to that you should be worried about. In some ways, Pence is a lot worse than him.
That and the fact that he has both houses in his pocket. But, and maybe I am being naively hopeful, i do feel that the weight of the office will affect him and that he will be the New York liberal he always was in the end. Hire good people, make deals, take the credit and the applause. This might prevent some of the more drastic things the republicans would do unchecked- but he owes the RP or their supporters zilch., Here in san francisco the snowflakes are wailing, but more because they didnt get what they wanted and their sense of entitlement is smashed.
That’s a decent précise there, Tony: Trump is no conservative and he knows how to deal.
@ Nigel ‘…Pence is a lot worse than him.’
Too right he is, because he’s way too right wing and religiously ‘informed’.
I saw something today where someone said Pence was Trump’s insurance against being assassinated, because if Pence took over we’d be sending our kids to gender-correcting schools and locking people up for having abortions.
I hope you are right so very much
The people who are most worried and rightly so are women, and mostly women of colour. They are getting it form both sides. They would be the first I would reassure if I were him.
Quite but those I know are far from assured sadly.
I think I take everything back after that tweet.
That’s the tip of the iceberg it appears
The rise of trump. See Shaun kings twitter feed for what is happening to poc in the us right now. See trump saying that media are inciting riots. The president elect guys attacking the media. See how this works now?? See who he is putting in his administration, boy you better not be LGBT because they are coming for you. Blackwell, pence. Happy for that now are we? Asian markets already down, they know what’s coming. Hope you’ve got some pennies under the mattress, hope you didn’t vote against benefit cuts. Boy oh boy.
Way to early to dissect the information. However, even a few weeks ago when the gap in the polls was closing, it wasn’t so much that HC was losing support as it was Trump gaining support. The confirmed democrats came out and supported their candidate and the confirmed republicans came out and supported theirs. It appears the undecided stayed undecided and didn’t vote.
It will be interesting to see what impact was caused by restrictions on voting and early voting. There’s too many red flags on the states that introduced legislation (i.e. those traditional red states that saw a huge swell of minority voting in 08 and 12) to not strongly suspect it wasn’t racially motivated to suppress minority voting. How significant that is remains to be seen.
Like brexit, it’s too easy to paint it all as poor white people when the stats just don’t back that up. Sure 4chan, Reddit and twitter had their bubbles of racist white men (young) rallying behind trump, but there’s not enough of them to do that much damage.
It’s that apathetic middle ground who scream and cry online in their echo chambers, but won’t lift a finger to effect change.
This is the party we deserve:
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oELL7hfKYfA&w=854&h=480%5D
The fact that it was HC losing votes into the abyss rather than Trump gaining is scary.
