King Arthur Pendragon believes parking fees at Stonehenge are “an illegal charge”

The druids cannot park a bike
At Stonehenge whenever they like
Will their day in court
Let them make a retort
Or has Britain become a new Reich?

They’ve given the go-ahead for a road tunnel under Stonehenge. It’s not comforting to know we don’t have a monopoly on stupidly destructive planning decisions, but there you go.

Did you know they charge you to go up onto the Cliffs of Moher. You can’t even throw yourself off a cliff without them gouging you one last time. Sorry, that’s terrible.

Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty can’t just sit around on their arses being Outstandingly Beautiful all day, you know. They’ve got to earn their keep or it’s bulldozers and bungalows for them.

        It’s not really, it;s just a joke.

In fairness, someone has to pay for the management of the tourists’ safety, parking, toilets, etc. that arrive by busloads all through the day.

Place would look like Tipp after Feile if there wasn’t some management of it… and there’d be bodies at the bottom of the cliff too. I did think, wtf are they charging for, myself… then I visited last summer for the first time since I was a kid…

It’s a small charge in fairness. Well worth it.

good god have they really?! actually under it or nearby? in any case that’s disgusting, they’re still making archaeological discoveries in the area.

It’s a bit vague. ‘In the area,’ but as you say the archaeological footprint of the site is being expanded all the time. Of course, it’s a solution to the stupidity of building the motorway there in the first place which is fine in principle, but a huge infrastructure project like that could damage and destroy all around it. Note that it’s backed by English Heritage, the same crowd King Arthur above does battle with.

They saw we ploughed a motorway through the Hill of Tara and decided they needed to up their game.

Phew, I though Ireland was the only bunch of money grabbers at heritage sites but nothing compared to those Stonehenge lads. Remember the lad that crashed into Leinster House in the truck, didn’t he build a modern day one on some island? Is it still there?

I believe so, but in a thousand years it will be a site of legend and mystery which an ancient hero erected with the power of his magical staff, Jayceebee before setting out on his mighty steed KonKreet Mickser to do battle with the evil dragon Endaken.
