Nóirín’s ‘Surprise’ Is Astonishing

This afternoon.

Further to allegations that Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan look a central role in the attempted smearing of whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

During Leaders’ Questions in the Dáil, Soc Dem co-leader Catherine Murphy said:

The Commissioner’s statement last night that she was surprised by the revelations made yesterday astonished me.

Because those allegations had been circulating in both political and media circles for some months now if the Commissioner genuinely didn’t know about them them then there is a really serious failure in the intelligence gathering capabilities of her office or indeed the force and a serious problem with internal communication.

Given the tittle tattle that the last Commissioner seemed to know about Mick Wallace’s minor driving incident for example it’s very hard to believe that the current commissioner is oblivious to the most serious and scurrilous allegations about both her and Sgt McCabe that were circulating.

And given that it appears RTÉ crime correspondents were made privy to the intricate details of the O’Higgin’s report before it ever saw the light of day, the Commissioner might ask if RTÉ are getting more information than she is.

If it is hard to believe the Commissioner’s statement last night then it begs the question what else can we believe? We in the Social Democrats also see no option but for the Commissioner to step aside while the Commission undertakes its work.”

Gulp.

The media don’t seem to report that her husband is conducting the Gardai investigation into whistle blower Dave Taylor who has made serious allegations against her.

  2. martco

so Kennys pearl of wisdom that ‘shure if everyone who had allegations made against them were to stand aside there’d be nobody working?? not everyone is the most senior Garda in the state you tool!! youse make CJ Haughey look like an amateur

identify who put this dirt file together on Maurice McCabe and the whole thing will unravel very fast

I’d say she was surprised to be named in the Dáil like that.

Brendan Howlin trying to become relevant.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Well done Howlin in your quest to be relevant – a bold move. However, those of us who hold the Ideals of the Labour Party (as it once was) dear will NEVER forgive you and your fatcat stickie brethren. A plague on all your houses.

      1. martco

        +1
fupp Howlin, clearly making an attempt to be relevant indeed.

        but

this file details a child sex offence. falsely accusing someone of this is the lowest of the low, I can’t come up with lower. a fupping clerical error?!? gimme a break! Frances Fitzgerald, Kenny, Martin effectually defending it. full confidence in the Garda commissioner. not a word about Mr McCabe or his family, where’s his support?? what does he do for the next few months while they play with this? imagine what that’s like?

got barely 5 mins on the 9oc news.

        wtf is going on???

        1. Sheik Yahbouti

True Martco. Seriously, what worse crime could a man be accused of.? What hell is this family being put through.

          1. martco

see it’s even bad enough that his name gets mentioned in the same sentence as the term child abuse false as it is

      1. martco

one more thought, not wanting to be defeatist this circus has one definite outcome – the system will succeed in protecting itself. I think the dog has shown it’s teeth.

ask yourself this, if you were a normal guard wanting to report something offside anymore would you now?

the ministers will do their thing slagging each other off, tribunals will fade to a disappointing whimper, maybe even a govt might fall but nobody will go to jail

a bit of collateral damage like the McCabe family, oh well

    Let’s get real here
She’s the most boring insipid… Fupick it
Clammy Beige specimen you’ll ever witness
With a speaking voice like an annoying toy drone

If you ever wonder how she got thru interview after interview after interview
Ta’get to the diamond studded solid gold pension ranks

She must be one manky sly conniving snakie two faced ….. Da de de dah
    Ye know what she is

  6. Eoin

I can see this all being mishandled so badly that the net result will be a general election. Government can’t go on without heads rolling here. And they don’t do rolling heads unless forced to.
