The Independent is the subject of a protected disclosure by….. Pitt himself. Though they’re not reporting it yet. Not good press for Reg Dacted. I wonder will the bold Hugh do an article. Or will we now get a series of “” SF ate my dog”‘” stories.?

  2. Shayna

“The Mail On-Line” was broadcasting a live feed. The commenters were brutal – it puts into perspective the commenters on BS – maybe be we are better?

  3. I Sheik Yahbouti

Why was the Sheikh removed from this thread – I did not use intemperate language?

  4. Truth in the News

If the all those now offering fulsome symphaty and praise took action all those years ago
to deal with the discrimination, gerrymandering and the sectarian para military violence
perpetuated on the Nationalists by the Armed Wing of the Unionists and the Orange Order
the B Specials and the RUC, would there be any Martin McGuiness’s on the streets of Derry
Other outfits that colluded in all of this was the Catholic Church and successive governments
in the South, the first were too busy concealing their own dirty linen, and the latter preoccupied with their soft jobs and pensions…..ironically Martin McGuiness’s last act, in his resignation has speeded up the day reckoning.

    1. Kenny Plank

Bishop Daly was hardly a colluder. You’re full of it. I’d bet McGuinness was given the last rites by the RC.

      1. Truth in the News

        Which Daly do you mean…..?
If its Edward Daly waving a hankerdchief , it failed to stop the bullets even if it was
all well intentioned, and then there is a Cathal Daly who lectured us all about “the
men of violence” but concealed and hid from us all, the abuse his own clerics and
religious perpetuated, and if McGuiness was given the last rites, he fared a lot better
than Republicans in an earlier era of our history.

    2. Sheik Yahbouti

Exactly. Amongst all the brow and chest beating the apartheid that gave birth to what is laughably known as “the troubles” gets nary a mention. The condemnation goes one way only.

      1. Adama

As someone who grew up in the apartheid that was Derry in the 70s and 80s I can stand back with quiet awe that is the spectacle of Martin McGuinness being taken back to his home without half the British Army watching from roof, helicopter and orbit. Only a short time ago this would have been unthinkable. I’m not condoning his past choices but he worked hard to ensure a future for his people, from whatever persuasion.

        1. mauriac

“worked hard”.. planning proxy bombs, indiscriminate attacks on pubs and family residences, enforcing control on his fiefdom through punishment beatings, kneecapping or ,”dissapearence”,drug dealing, bank robbery and covering for pedophiles all to achieve what was on offer twenty years before the good Friday agreement.

          1. tj

            +1
According to Austin Stack on Newsnight , the victims were told to “just get over it/move on”.

          1. Adama

I’m sorry Shayna-I know exactly what you mean. It’s all too easy for people if they’re not involved to judge this from afar. There’s an attitude down here that’s sneers at what happened up North like it was a disconnect from our affairs.

I can’t speak as to the motives of all the personnel involved (ref Mauriacs comments) but I know it’s a better place now than before. People can go about their business without fear of any side (especially the British Army) having a prescribed agenda to discriminate. That’s due in no small way to Martin McGuinness’ attempts (including our government and the British) to meet at a point where hatred and division can be forgotten.

+ 1 Shayna, Adama and Sheik

The Shoot-To-Kill policy was beyond barbaric. Sorry for your loss Shayna.

    1. Zena

Kenny, you’re so blinkered, manipulated and brain-washed. It’s not your fault – it’s just the propaganda that you and those of your opinion have been fed.

        1. Zena

All the ghouls of the day feel it’s their time to gloat, I’ve nothing but pity for yous really, sad state of affairs.

Stockholm Syndrome is alive and kicking, the oppressor became the revered and the victim the murderer. Wise up.

          1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

            I thought Norman Tebbit’s reaction was eye-watering. He’s a very angry man. It’s sad.

          2. Kieran Nice Young Chap

He was blown up and his wife was left paralyzed.

How would YOU react? He has every right to his emotions.

  6. Shayna

@Adama – Yes it’s great that the British Army no longer patrol the streets and rural roads of The North along with their pretend soldiers (RUC).
Robert Kennedy said, “Forgive your enemies, but don’t forget their names.”.

Murdering scum. You carry your self-righteousness around like the stench of death. Is it any wonder nobody likes Nordie nationalists.

“But you weren’t there!” I was. All killing is wrong.

President Higgins disgracing myself again, as usual too.

    #notinmyname

      1. Adama

But seriously @Eight, what solution would you have suggested to bring about a relative peace up North? Would it have been better not to have the protagonists involved in a solution? Maybe a mass drugging of the population, keeping them in stasis or something?

        What would you have done?

        1. mauriac

what a great con.destroy the best chance for negotiated peace then spend 20 years wallowing in pointless bloodshed and very lucrative crime then stop and be hailed as a peacemaker.
“whores, ugly buildings and politicians all get respectable if they live long enough”as yerman in Chinatown said.
