The Dáil will today debate a motion on the final report while TDs will vote on the motion tomorrow.

Yep that’s exactly it. While no doubt some did genuinely disagree with the idea of water charges, the fact is that most of the protesters were vacuous slogan chanters and career anarchists who don’t understand politics, governance, or have any concept of shared, civic responsibility.

I’d say lots of people understand politics, ergo politicians are not very well respected amongst the general population. Despised might even be more accurate.
They keep voting for them all the same though Anne. The same old shower of eejits year after year saying the same things over and over. That suggests to me the intelligence level of the average voter isn’t high either.
I think myself people vote for the individual politician whose probably getting stuff done locally fulfilling the role of co councillors..they aren’t looking at their party’s policies. I don’t know how intelligent or not that makes people, or how badly structured Irish politics is.

The “Independent” does what it’s told, always has, whether from it’s offshore business owners to various other business and security inputs. Any resistance to the corporate takeover of our society is demonised immediately as communism, some form of bewildering mental illness or or just outright terrorism. It is worth asking again how the “generous allowance” of 133 litres per day was arrived at. Since it appears that the British use an average of 149 litres a day, and the Americans between 80 and 100 gallons – are we then a filthy lot? Alternatively, one could suspect that the allowance is set deliberately low so as to facilitate ‘levies’ for ‘excessive usr’. We’ll see about that.
Or to encourage conservation maybe?
