Taken in the studio he created in the back room of his pub in his home town of Macroom, County Cork, Dennis Dinneen’s portraits, which he worked on from the 50s to the 70s, add up to a detailed and affecting picture of an entire community.

Dennis Dinneen is at Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin, until May 27.

    Excellent exhibition.

All shades of human life from Macroom in the 50/60s is on show.

I particularly liked the anarchy of what’s going on in the background of the uncropped photos – very revealing.

Grim. They’re a bit like Diane Arbus’ stuff. Except we just look like that: we’re not circus freaks.

Great photos….that group scene looks to have been taken after a rake of gargles….the couple in the back behind duckface …brilliant

the calendar to the left of the girl in white with hand on hip covered up (almost) with another

would be great to see those people as they are now (obviously not the ones that are dead!!)

“Macroom the town that never reared a fool” or “Kerrymen with shoes” take you pick.

In fairness, this could be any recent Fianna Fail Ard Fheis. Last year’s for example.

    Great images though! Well done.
