Maybe if the better player kept accidentally allowing his pieces to be taken but still managed to win with a very late game mate.

Little bit of schadenfreude to see that big mouth O’Leary may have miscalculated, and may yet have to pay for his fit of pique. Although, of course, he CAN afford it. Nonetheless, dem lads really “don’t want to pay for anything”.

I was quite wrong about that Mayo team, they showed remarkable resilience in dragging themselves back for another bruising encounter this year, but they were beaten by a fine bunch of footballers.

Although I wouldn’t call forcing a fist onto a Mayo player’s face while he was on the ground the action of a fine player. Dublin should have been down to 14 before half time.

You can’t help but think this might break them. For the third Final in a row they should have won and didn’t. The psycological damage of playing their best against a Dublin team playing very badly and still losing must be pretty big.

They make Dublin play badly. No one else can at the moment. Still not enough though. Any fan of sport has to feel for them while admiring Dublin.

I’d agree in general but in the first half Dublin made a lot of unforced errors like overrunning the ball and not passing anywhere near as well as they could.

Can’t fault Mayo’s approach to Cluxton’s kicking though, that was impressive.

They weren’t unforced errors. Mayo played brilliantly – in their faces from the first minute. That wasn’t Dublin making errors, it was Mayo forcing errors.

I was wondering through the first half if Dublin were really up for it – two consecutive titles can take away your hunger. Mayo looked like they wanted it more. And I really believe that if there had been another 10 minutes on the clock, Mayo would have gone on to win it. I hope Mayo get it in 2018 (so long as Dublin aren’t in the final too).

That’ll teach ’em for setting a funeral on fire and stealing the hearse and doing doughnuts in the pitch, or whatever it wax that brought on the curse.

I’d be interested to hear more about how the Department of Social Protection hired a 72 year old. I think Regina is spoofing
