Was your bike (top) pinched yesterday?
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council Green Party Councillor Ossian Smyth writes:
Was one of your readers the victim of a bike theft in Dún Laoghaire?
Joe runs the Dublin Loves Bikes bike shop on York Road, Dún Laoghaire. Yesterday he saw a thief steal a bicycle in the middle of my town.
Many people might decide to ignore a criminal wielding a bolt cutters but Joe followed the thief to the DART station and confronted him.
He has the stolen bike in his shop now.
In fairness

Have met Joe a few times out cycling, a real gentleman.
Was really hoping you would unmask the guy Joe, like the end of Scooby Doo!! hehe
Great work!
Well done, that man.
Fair balls.
What about the thief’s human rights?
This is outrageous.
Off with Joe’s head.
…. but now the poohawk knows where Joe works…
Good maaaaan
Good work detective!. So he was getting on the dart with the bike? Is that allowed? A pity AGS can’t do this job, garda station just down the street. Like shooting fish in a barrel I would have thought, you’d have a healthy arrest sheet.
You are allowed bring a bike on the dart outside of peak times.
You are not allowed steal bikes.
Thanks Col, I did not know that. (was it off-peak in this case?!!)
Fair play. Wish there were some kind of security or gardaí around to arrest the boo boo though
Superb Work. Civic Duty Done. Nice One. A pity there aren’t more like him.
Wonder how much the stolen bike trade is worth per annum.
Apparently the most unsafe place to park/lock your bicycle in dublin city is Trinity College, followed by car parks. I always assumed a street was the least safe place, and have often gone into Trinity to lock my bike there thinking it would be safer.

In the absence of an effective, visible police force, this course of action is the only way this type of crime will be dealt with.
Our Gardai think they are owed a living are only serving time until they collect the Rolls Royce pension.
You wouldn’t believe the attitude a lot of them have with regard to their job.
He’s like the Zorro of Dun Laoghaire. Except on a bike.
Fair play to him.
Maith an fear : )
6.53 – cyclist cycles wrong way on one way street. Idiot.
Good job Man!
Makes plans to upgrade my own vintage

Well played Mr Joe- Like A Boss.
