          I know!!!!!
An’ I don’t mind telling ye

I’m getting a bit goosie goosie green eyes about it

          1. Martco

he really got away with it over that Eva Carneiro didn’t he? horrible little man. doubt he’ll be around too much longer, I don’t think he has either his dressing room or the fans behind him.

          2. bertie blenkinsop

He could stab Bobby Charlton in the centre circle and most fans would overlook it so long as they are winning trophies.
That’s not an anti MUFC observation, most football fans are that fickle in my experience.
Witness Rooney’s return to Everton, he was a pariah before that.

Jeez. The news will be so different now.

[The world of television news (providing ‘wholesale’ footage to ‘retail’ media) has shrunk to two major players, Reuters Television News and APTV . Boyd-Barrett 2008]

    1. some old queen

A story of two women getting the jobs of reading the news is cringe worthy but I suppose it needs to be spelt out to those whom time is not on their side.

    2. Its still an open plan office even if its multi coloured

If it didn’t appear to look so comedic and needfully pitiful. Imagine they’d got the job for being good at it! Maybe they are good at it! It doesn’t matter now, they got it because of a fad. You can almost see the old guy in the suit saying “this is what we have to do” Pathetic really.

Is Laura Fitzgerald writing on behalf of RTÉ when asking us to note the switching of seats, or who is she?

Did Dobbo always sit stage left, and Angus McGrianna sit stage right or did it depend on whether the other seat was occupied by someone with more years at the desk?

    1. ahjayzis

I read something a while ago with pictures that showed that when it’s a man and a woman, they always sit the man on the right – from the BBC to CNN to Al Jazeera etc.

        1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Exactly. Though I know who they are without that prompt. Coz I’m pretty dang cool.

  2. Dinger

Did you know that one time the president of the USA, Donald trump was in the phone to Leo from the Whitehouse and during the call Donald sez, “c’mere Irish news lassie” to Catriona and Catriona wrote a book about it.

  3. The Bad Ambassador

My guess is that it’s RTÉ’s version of “staggered but equal billing”.

Because we read from left to right, the person on the left hand side is often subconsciously considered the lead . By alternating there will be no perceived main anchor.

  4. Paddy at the Howth Summit

And we should care because two white women are working for RTE?

How much do the RTE canteen people make?

          1. Brother Barnabas

that’s exactly what I was saying to bodger earlier

not sure he could hear me though – had him in a headlock at the time, while olga was pinching his nipples. later we all wedgied him.

  5. gerry

Keelin Shanly is on the right. When describing a photo you use the perspective of the person viewing it.

  6. Paddy at the Howth Summit

How come one laptop is connected to a power supply and LAN with cable and the other is not? No Wifi outside of the RTE canteen I suppose.

I’d bet those ancient machines are not even turned on because RTE IT unions have refused to change the Gerry Ryan Operation Transformation desktop screensavers without a 75% pay increase.

And what’s with the RTE News stickers over the manufacturer’s logos? Like we can see they’re not Apple MBPs….

    Rubbish.

    1. Dhaughton99

My god. That bloody thing has been going on since Ryan. They certainly getting their monies worth.

    2. LW

Are you entirely sure they’re Apple products? The answer, obviously, is not be giving free advertising to whoever they bought them from.

    3. ahjayzis

Lol! God I’d forgotten they fronted their healthy eating / exercise / lifestyle change programme with an obese cokehead.

  7. Steph Pinker

I’ve frequently read BS comments (including Bodger’s) which display varying degrees of stupidity, but, the level of ignorance and sexism which has wantonly been published in these comments takes BS to another level – not to mention the hypocrisy and laziness of thinking.

BS, you’ve already become a navel-gazing parody of the identity you’re still trying to fabricate.

    1. Shayna

To be fair Steph, I think Bodger was referencing the BBC is all – http://metro.co.uk/2016/03/16/sexism-row-over-male-presenters-sitting-on-left-side-of-the-tv-sofa-5755845/
I’ve kept my one New Year resolution thus far, be nicer. Sure, not all the comments are well-informed, or even make sense on BS, but what’s not to love about that? I met a school chum who reads BS, he was home for Christmas from San Fransisco – I hadn’t seen him for 32 years, he noticed my occasional byline on BS, from that facebook friends, then a brunch meet with Conor and his wife Jess last Wednesday, when he was en route back to the U.S.
Steph, I think you should perhaps read the kindness in some of the comments, rather than point out your perceived stupidity of the commenters.
I hope you hang around, angry commenters make for a good read.

      1. Mr M

        Who’s Conor and Jess?
What is the relevance of this regarding the article?
Why can’t posters keep to the point? There are some guys up there talking about football managers FFS?? And Bodger, Catriona Perry is on the left.

        1. bertie blenkinsop

          That was me.
I was making a light hearted comparison.
If that’s a problem for you I suggest you ignore my contributions in future.
          Have a nice day.

          1. Mr M

            ??What was you?
I don’t have a problem with any contributions other than ones that are not relevant to the discussion.
And you too have a nice day….

          2. bertie blenkinsop

That was me talking about football managers.
            This is Broadsheet.
The moderators determine what’s acceptable to discuss.
It’s not your place to dictate what’s relevant or otherwise.
It’s always been a free for all as long as I’ve been here and hopefully always will be.

        2. Brother Barnabas

and Perry is not necessarily on the left. it’s the old stage left versus house left conundrum. who’s to say? not Mr M.

    1. snowey

in a similar vein , as a child I often wondered why newsreaders called themselves “journalists” when them only read what others wrote down and never had an opinon piece of their own.

      I can’t recall who read six-one then…was mid 80s

      1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

        Maurice O’Doherty?
In primary school, I read comedy news in the end of year show as Doris O’Maugherty. I still chuckle at my jolly japes back then: sowed the seeds of a very fruitful comedy career.

          1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

When I say ‘career’ I mean regaling people in pubs. And not even people, sometimes. Just myself. Roaring laughing at my own jokes.

  8. Percival

I would have thought that reading out the news from autocue is a come down from Washington Correspondent? Is that not an entirely different career?

She must have a been a good little girl, doing what she was told in Washington and now her reward is a lifelong cushy number on RTE news.

    1. ahjayzis

You went there so fast, it makes you look like someone people wouldn’t trust their young daughters around.
