Slushy Love Songs

at

Every week, we give away a voucher worth twenty five euros to trade for vinyl, CD or ‘merch’ from any of the many Golden Discs across the country.

All we ask from you is a tune we can play next week.

This week’s theme: Slow set!

You’ve mustered up the courage to ask them to dance.

Now, what sentimental ballad would you like played as you take the floor?

You will need a song that contains enough melodic poignancy, emotion and cheese to transcend the awkward, intimate shuffling that may ensue… while offering little nourishment to the true music lover.

To enter, complete this sentence.

‘When I sway closely with a special friend at a ‘dance’, I like to do so to the strains of________________________ owing to its____________________________’

Lines MUST close at 5.45pm MIDNIGHT! 6am!

Entries may include one saxophone solo.

When’s I sway closely with a special friend at a ‘dance’, I like to do so to the strains of Laura Brannigan’s Silent Partners owing to its part in the Sound Track of my life,

    well my head anyway.
In fact that entire Album Self Control could be my biography
And Laura Brannigan was my 80s idol. ( Well her and Belinda Carlisle)
    Had the hair
    Had the shoulder pads
    Had the leather pants
    I was massive
Despite the brutal era that decade was we still made the most of it

    Btw. Tis a clinger

‘When I sway closely with a special friend at a ‘dance’, I like to do so to the strains of I Kill Children by the Dead Kennedys owing to its glorification of legal and illegal abortion both of which I firmly believe in’

when i sway closely with someone at a ‘dance’ it has to be “she” by elvis costello. If you dont get peck or a bag of chips on the way home after that, you either have bad b.o. or halitosis

When I sway closely with a special friend at a ‘dance’, I like to do so to the strains of Roxy Music’s ‘Love is the Drug’ owing to its lyrics, “Late that night I parked my car, Staked my place in the singles bar, Face to face, toe to toe, Heart to heart as we hit the floor” and hoping to, “Lumbered up limbo down, The locked embrace, stumble round, I say go, she says yes, Dim the lights you can guess the rest” but then get a slap on the face for my ’70s sleazy Bryan Ferry (esque) presumption.

When I sway closely with a special friend at a ‘dance’, I like to do so to the strains of Amar Pelos Dois owing to its timeless nature and modern appeal that never fails to bring a tear to my eye remembering past love and warmth to my heart thinking about love yet to come.

When I sway closely with a special friend at a “dance” , I like to do so to the strains of LL Cool J’s “I Need Love” owing to its killer line “You can scratch my back, we’ll get cosy and huddle, I’ll lay down my jacket so you can walk over a puddle”. Chivalry lives!!

            A young lad called Shaun.

His parents had what we like to call ‘notions’ and he broke my heart after a tumultuous three weeks of stolen kisses and embarrassed hand-holding.

        2. Bertie Blenkinsop

          A girl named Nicole.
She had long red hair and the first time I saw her she had two black Labradors walking either side of her and she looked like some kind of Gaelic queen.
I was instantly smitten, I was only a kid but I fell fast and hard for her.
Long story short – she left me for a fella who had the streaks in his hair and then had a baby at 15.
Still smile thinking about the first time I saw her, cliched as that may sound.
