From top: The Geneisis Swift Nest Box at Patrician Boys’ Secondary School, Newbridge, County Kildarel Stephen de Beer
The Swifts are nearly here!
But WHERE will they nest?
RTÉ’s Liam Geraghty meets feather-fixated invento Stephen de Beer, who has created a hub for returning immigrant Swifts.
Liam writes:
Next month we can expect to see the arrival of Swifts in our skies again however the latest Countryside Bird Survey shows an alarming 40% decline in their numbers.
While the reason for the decline remains unknown it’s thought that a significant factor might be renovations of old buildings meaning a loss in available nest sites for the Swift.
This is where Stephan comes in – he’s a South African living in Kerry and has turned to real estate for birds as a solution, and in doing so, founded a fledgling business for himself

Yeah, BB does produce diamonds on the regular; just don’t ask where he hides the piece of coal :)
You complete me.
Next month? Swifts are usually the last to arrive, in about June time.
Just sayin’ like
Swiftly followed by a lot of poo!
