A Woman’s Place

at

This afternoon.

Leinster House, Dublin 2

Female  members of the Dáil and Seanad with artist Noel Murphy.

As part of the Votáil100 campaign to mark the 100 years of women’s’ suffrage, Noel  has produced a portrait featuring all 53 female members of the Dáil and Seanad.

Noel has also placed Countess Markievicz in the painting, “connecting the first woman elected to parliament, with the contemporary women who had followed her”.

Fight!

Mary Lou is well placed in the middle under the pillar – with nobody near her… interesting composition.

I was just about to make the same remark. It looks like it started off as ML portrait and the rest got sketched in as an afterthought because she’s the only one who doesn’t look squashed in…. Like she’s let rip a big stinkie rudie!

    It’s partitionist! Where’s Foster and O’Neill?

And what is the sash Bacik is wearing?

Can’t help noticing the cool greys and blues coming through from the background makes a lot of them look like they have stubble. I suspect Noel is more used to painting men.

I love how Joan Burton is painted shielding behind the former Minister for Justice.

The more I look at it there are all kind of subtle in jokes there.

    Well done to the artist.
