neutrality is just being clung on to by bitter old racists, Ireland is in the EU we need to move with one voice against Russia, Putin is LITERALLY hitler he poisons everyone he doesnt like. Ireland owes everything it has to the EU we must do what is necessary when called upon.

    1. david

      Is he now?
      Who says?
Are they Russians or outside interests
I do not see Russia under putin with extermination camps or ready to or have invaded the west
Just hear this that and the other
I actually know a few Russians and they do not eat children
As for Russia under Hitler well the millions of Russians slaughtered and led to a cold war and starlin purging millions and the whole east backwards
Where is the proof he is poisoning anyone he dose not like?

      1. Papi

starlin purging millions and the whole east backwards!

See? What’s this? Are you dictating with a country accent or something? Have you a Hawking style machine that is really crap?

        1. david

          Well papi
You cannot add one constructive thing.
You are ignorant of world history.
Read a few books and develop a mind that questions.
WW2 created in its aftermath a soviet block which went backwards.
Their industries were primitive and backwards.
It was under Gorbachev that Russia started reform and under Put in that Russia has begun to thrive.
Its all there to read and learn
Read up about the Cuban crises and the cold war the paranoia of the west and the East
All you can do is resort to insults which makes you quite an uneducated Omron.

          1. Papi

Would my History degree with a focus on modern European history and Higher diploma in Education in History be ok for you?
            Omron indeed.

          2. Papi

And, auld sod, if you looked, I rarely comment on your content, because it’s incomprehensible. I comment on your delivery, which is like a tired child mashing the keyboard. If you want to be taken seriously, write properly. Plus, you’re a throwback to a former age which hasn’t learned a thing and just complains.
            Welcome

good fishing today jim, you got a nice few nibbles.
gotta love the newbies all the same :)

if youre not going to include appropriate punctuation in your sentences as it is very important said text become increasingly incomprehensible the further one navigates into the paragraph context becomes difficult

Why are we only only expelling a Russian diplomat?
Much worse atrocities have happened, are happening right now, and will likely be committed again regularly by the coalition of the willing.
Why do we not expel diplomats from the countries involved in the illegal invasion of Iraq for instance?
Of course the timing of all of this is not suspicious at all, at all.

    1. Nigel

Bit late don’t you think? Still sounds like we stood shoulder to shoulder demonstrating against Iraq, so why would we let Putin, with his invasions and assassinations and support for Assad, off the hook?

      1. jusayinlike

        “Bit late..”

just forget about all the recent lies and manipulations used to start illegal wars, move on and start the next war of civilizations..

        slow clap

        1. Nigel

Far more likely to have a war if Putin keeps acting with impunity. Meanwhile show me the proof of the lies and manipulations in the here and now. There was nothing around the build up to Iraq that Putin wasn’t and isn’t just as capable of, so if you’re simply waving your hands at past bad behaviour it’s a wash. Also I’d be dying to know what the feck a bunch of nuclear powers think they have to gain by starting a hot war with another nuclear power that’s also a gangster state.

          1. jusayinlike

Show me the evidence of Putin acting with impunity Nigel?

So far there has been no evidence provided by the sec services for Russian involvement in Salisbury incident.

          2. Nigel

Ukraine, Syria, multiple hacking incidents of governments and corporations, and several previous assassinations, not to mention the activities of all his money-laundering oligarch pals. Pure impunity.

So far there’s no evidence that Salisbury was some sort of false flag operation to whip up war-fever either, but you’re ready enough to believe that.

          3. jusayinlike

Ukraine incident was contrived by the west because Crimea is Russia’s only port.

Syrian conflict was contrived buy the UK and the US.

No evidence of election meddling or hacking.

The onus is on the UK to provide evidence of this chemical episode, not on Russia to provide evidence of innocence.

          4. Nigel

The Putin party line, there. Sort of undermines your moral high ground when criticising bad actions of western countries when you give Putin a free pass, brah. Or it would if someone who attacks shooting survivors as crisis actors with no evidence whatsoever had any moral high ground.

        1. jusayinlike

Wrong Nigel, Ireland loses access to the biggest market the EU has to offer, when Gilmore idiotically imposed sanctions on Ireland, Russia got all their Irish produce off China, Russia didn’t suffer at all, Ireland did..

          1. Nigel

I see so you’re saying commercial considerations should come before ethical ones or issues of national security or standing by our neighbours, allies and trading partners. Bit neolibreal of you but ok.

          2. jusayinlike

            What ethical issues Nigel?

I’m assuming it’s ethically correct to provide indisputable evidence of a crime before pointing the finger and potentially erroneously starting another world war.

          3. Nigel

They’re throwing out a few spies in response to a chemical attack, it’s not the feckin’ Gulf Of Tonkin you hysterical puppy. If they HAD irrefutable proof it WOULD be an act of war so if I had to guess if they have it we’ll never see it. I hope.

          4. Nigel

Pity you’re not so exacting in your standards of evidence when it comes to declaring terrorist attacks fake and shooting survivors crisis actors.

        2. david

Exactly ,then the government loose the taxes generated.
Then the jobs, you cannot forget the jobs, then exports to Russia.
And for what ?our leaders used to speak the words the others will not because their economy will suffer.
Swiftly our nation is becoming the gimp of Europe

          1. jusayinlike

A chemical attack by whom Nigel?

Can you provide a link to support the involvement of this perp nation?

          2. jusayinlike

So would we have been correct to ignore out neutrality and provide solidarity with the UK when they illegally invaded Iraq, should we just act like lemmings all the time?

          3. david

            You are joking Nigel.
Solidarity ?as we are involved in the nastiness in brexit,i doubt it
Merkel told little Leo verruca what to say
Reward is support for the nomination for Ireland on the security council.
Up with the big boys. A league that is way beyond our KAPOs
Of course Germany cannot upset the Russians to much as they depend on Russian gas to fuel their economy.
So little Leo is dispatched and we are the ones who face the fall out.
            Its so obvious its pathetic.

          4. Nigel

That’s gobbledigook, dave. I have to admire your commitment to monstering Verucca even when he’s standing strong behind your beloved UK.

          5. Nigel

jusayinlike, we did ignore our neutrality and allowed US troops and rendition flights to land at Shannon. At least standing up to Putin is something I can get behind, even though if they really wanted to challenge him they’d go after money laundering.

          6. jusayinlike

Nigel we did not officially compromise our neutrality.

Those flights were illegal under our constitution.

Ireland should not have got involved in this. Nothing to be proud of whatsoever.

          7. Nigel

Throwing out a single spy/diplomat is feck all compared to allowing those flights so quit yer whinin’ Putin fan-boy.

        3. jusayinlike

Nigel, Putin took the assets back off the oligarchs, that’s why Russia’s GDP is up 150% since 98..

    1. GiggidyGoo

Stuck a pin in the listing of diplomats. ‘that one’ What absolute joke of an administration. Covneykins and Leokins will get a little rub on the head from Merkel.
Better wait a few hours, as Coveney tends to change his mind quickly. Maybe the brothers meat export market includes Russia, so that’s why he only chose one diplomat.

Start stocking up on the Milk and bread peoples..

    http://www.bbc.com/news/39655415
“How a cyber attack transformed Estonia
From 27 April, Estonia was also hit by major cyber-attacks which in some cases lasted weeks.
Online services of Estonian banks, media outlets and government bodies were taken down by unprecedented levels of internet traffic.
Massive waves of spam were sent by botnets and huge amounts of automated online requests swamped servers.
The result for Estonians citizens was that cash machines and online banking services were sporadically out of action; government employees were unable to communicate with each other on email; and newspapers and broadcasters suddenly found they couldn’t deliver the news. “

      1. dav

I thought that was implied when I posted the above in a thread about Ireland pishing off the ruskies. They have to retaliate against us. Not to do so would make them seem weak

    1. scottser

dried and canned foods, bottled water and batteries dude – bread and milk will be no good to you.

  4. Neilo

If this means we could be spared RTE News for a few weeks, I’d be down for expelling a few more cultural attachés.

  5. rotide

Delighted that we’re taking action on this. An aggressive nation carried out a state sponsored chemical attack on one of our neighbours . I’m astonished that the comments here are so parochial, making Leo out to be some sort of Toady to the UK when it’s plainly obvious to every government in the west what happened.

The UK didn’t expel diplomats. You can bet the guy expelled here wasn’t one either.

    1. jusayinlike

Typical establishment contrarion attitiude from one of the most gullible commenters on BS.

    2. steve white

the UK said the they expelled “undeclared intelligence officers” how long have they known that these people were “undeclared intelligence officers” ?
