This morning’s Irish Times

Off the plans, eh?

Garthicus writes:

More fuel to the fire, opening sentence of an Irish Times article about a penthouse :”The boom keeps getting boomier at Lansdowne Place, the Ballsbridge apartment scheme currently so hot it practically has its own microclimate.”

Ballsbridge penthouse goes on sale off the plans for whopping €7.5m (Irish Times)

      +€425,000.00

I worked in an estate agents prior to the crash. We’ve seen this madness before except we had more houses.

‘You are what you own in this land. You can be King and it all depends on the view and what you can see.’

Please tell me it’s got a porthole?

I reckon they’re literally copying and pasting 2005 articles with the names changed to save costs.

Depressing. Get ready for Depression 2.0.

It’s over seven and a half thousand feet! Janey Mac. I think if I had that kind of money, I wouldn’t be buying a massive flat. Sorry, penthouse aportment.

Mildred, you know you only have to say the word and I’d be on your doorstep with my stuff in two black bags….

if it was four small children I’d say “a blender”‘ but four teenagers would require “a tree chipper”

            Couple of things SOQ

            * I don’t have 4 teenage kids (that I’m owning up to)

            * I sense I’m on the verge of a breakthrough here, mind your own business and you can be a bridesmaid

Yep why live in a crime ridden city
If you have 7.5 million a mansion in Killiney
Or better still a estate in Kerry or west cork

  3. Frilly Keane

that looks like a hotel lobby

if I’d 7.5 million plus bits

that’s not what I’d be doing with it

Yeah, it would be tough for a single person, but as long as a couple are earning €1.1mill each (who isn’t?) and have €750k in the back pocket, this is pretty affordable.

whomever had this bright idea seemingly doesn’t understand how Chinese & Russian investors work

“It’s like London only quieter & greener”

Chinese much too clever to throw money at that & cant see any Russians moll being interested in living in a backwater like Dublin

stupid idea but a good flag for where things are in reality. buckle up.

Maybe they could sell it to them as ‘a short hop from London, minus the pollution’.

There’s no way they’ll get that kind of money for that. It’s just PR guff.

      1. SOQ

Less MI6 surveillance maybe? The IFSC has light touch regulation after all. Surprised there isn’t more Russian money being laundered here already.

I know one friend who would make an excellent hoorhouse madam if there’s room for one more!

      3. filly buster

hard to get the high class hoors for the hoorhouse though. i’ve been thru most of them on escort ireland, and even the best are about 5/10. a lot of the photos are not them, or are them lookin way better than in real life. so if ya get this hoorhouse up n runnin, gimme a shout.

Oh an estate agent worried about people being put off?
Come on 7.5 mill for an apartment in Dublin
Manhattan yes but come on Dublin its hardly London or Paris or Milan ?

    1. Fact Checker

When you restrict supply (and that’s what planning law does) the market will cater to the higher end, as that is where the highest profit margins are.

    2. Diddles

There’s an 89 sq m 2 bed (really 75 sq m because they’ve included a converted attic which is so low you cannot stand up) in Ranelagh for sale for €750k

Homeless people are sleeping in the band stand in Herbert park – what a great little nation the blushirts have created..

    1. Djin Genie

I agree with your sentiment but just want to point out that local people and homeless agencies have been trying persistently to help the man in the bandstand for months. However, he generally refuses all assistance, though he will accept food and supplies. The agencies come and check on him every so often, offering a place to stay, but there’s nothing they can do because he chooses not to engage, as is his right. This was so dangerous during the snow, when he refused to come in and insisted on staying outside with his sleeping bag, that the fire brigade paramedics had to come into the park with an ambulance and bring him in against his will. He is French-African with complex mental health and addiction problems. His English isn’t great and he doesn’t like talking to people even if they talk to him in French. It’s very sad and frustrating because it feels like nobody can help. There aren’t grounds to section him (bar during the snow) so all the agencies can do is keep offering support in hopes that he will one day accept. I too am very angry about the government’s role in the housing and homelessness crisis but having seen and been involved in how much has been done to help this person to no avail I feel that they are not at fault in this case. Sectioning would almost certainly be the best thing for him but the law rightfully upholds his autonomy and we cannot force him into support. Of course your overall point still stands! This specific case is just the rare instance where the housing and homelessness crisis is not the central problem.

      1. Lilly

He was away for a few weeks some months ago in St Vincent’s psychiatric unit. He must have gone voluntarily. I sometimes hear him talking to himself in animated French as I go by. Poor guy, god knows how he ended up in such a dire situation.

I’m looking forward to paying mad prices for food, for no particular reason at all..

Would Sir/Madam/Fluid like some Raspberry Coulis/Lemon Grass/Chili Paste to go with your Lamburger and sweet potato wedges?

All the back gardens in our estate have been built on, with horrible cube dwellings, no space left for the next wave of overpriced tat.
