      it’s necessary on a car that fast, otherwise the back would slide about all over the place. although, the 911 did start the craze of bolting on spoilers to ford escorts and the like in the 80’s.

        My da had an XR3i back in the 80’s, it’s only when I got older that I realised he was a bit of a maddyer! :)

        I did not know that. Very interesting actually to know there’s an actual reason for them. I thought they were just for show.

    Always too froglike for me. If I was dripping in dosh it would be an e-type in racing green. Ahhhhh…sweet dreams.

    If you have never had the pleasure of driving a 911 or the deep pockets needed to own one, it’s very hard to explain. Took a chance and bought a fixer upper, which had been unloved and obviously abused by a succession of previous owners. Spent more on repairs than what I paid for it. But it was worth it. Some of my fondest driving memories come from that elegant machine, would drive out to Montauk regularly when I lived in NY. Kept it for 2 years , sold it and made a net loss of about $5k after all expenses.
