the reason this will be lost is because Fine Gael have not said implicitly how, when, where, to what term abortion will happen with a yes vote. they have indeed had 35 years to draught proposed legislation but they would rather pass the buck.
fine Gael may well be backing this but as the other cheek of the same arse once said ‘it’s all optics’.
I didn’t know you had a time machine Alan.
May I have a turn? I just want to nip ahead to find out how Game of Thrones ends.
let me know when you find out, Milly. my money’s on Dany dying in childbirth, Jon being king of Westeros and Sansa as the Wardeness of the North.
I must be the only person in the country that hasn’t seen even 5 mins of this. harumph.
trying to get thru Narcos at moment but the second season was sloooow.
I haven’t either
you are not alone
i haven’t yet watched the Wire so you’re not alone in missing shows!
Idris ….that is all
Jaysus that’s not a bad guess at all. I’d be gutted to see a character as badass as Dany die at all. But you know she’s such a popular character that she’s guaranteed some kind of awful death.
Turns out it was all a dream, Hodor wakes up in the stable with his favorite sheep.
Was talking to someone on the crew a while ago who claimed to know how it ends.
I didn’t want to know, but it’s tempting now to make something up and claim its the truth
Tyrion dies.
You’re a cruel, cruel mistress ro.
ack! my heart, ro!

@Alan
on your cynical view of politics, agreed but unless we enact a violent revolution I can’t see much change there.
on the subjectmatter itself & I’m guessing you are a NO voter as you say “this will be lost” I completely disagree.
for starters I disagree because I don’t want you effectively having rights over my wife & nieces bodies, do you understand that?
I will be voting yes.
So I hope that shows you what you know.
LOL! Another “yes” voter appearing to tell us why the referendum will be lost.
I hope yes wins but I don’t think it will. I’ve set out why above. I’ll also add that it won’t pass because all those among us that believe in Jesus will vote no.
I think you’re talking rubbish.
1. FG have said implicitly how, when, where, to what term abortion will happen with a yes vote. This is their proposed legislation. This will need to go before the Oireachtas and may be changed before being signed into law.
https://health.gov.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/General-Scheme-for-Publication.pdf
2. “they have indeed had 35 years to draught proposed legislation but they would rather pass the buck.” Ha! FF have ignored this for the last 35 years. FG pushed for the 2013 pregnancy act, and now this.
1. That document is not proposed legislation it is a ‘GENERAL SCHEME’.
2. as the other cheek of the same arse once said ‘it’s all optics’.
We’ve had this obfuscation time and again Alan. They can’t publish an actual bill until the 8th is Repealed. I’d be very surprised if you found a Repealer who couldn’t explain that to you and if you and your mates down the pub are thinking of voting No because they can’t get around the logistics of this then I’d suggest you have someone come and explain it to them, or to you and you to them.
That’s if you really want Yes to win of course.
Did you learn that down the pub? There is proposed legislation; that’s all they can really do for now.
There is a ‘general scheme’. That is not proposed legislation.
And that is the reason this will be a no vote. Ask a yes campaigner what the proposed legislation is and they simply cannot answer because there is none.
So dylad when you’re down the pub and someone says ‘what will be the perimeters of abortion if there’s a yes vote?’ No one can answer truthfully because those perimeters have not been set or even proposed. A lot of my fellow drinkers will be justified in voting no.
Now that’s complete B0ll0cks Alan
but I like your lowering expectations canvas style
But for everyone else
Legislation has not yet been debated in the House
and for every No-Sider to even mention it, they are conceding defeat
Wait till the effin thing is on the Order of Business would ye
and lets enjoy the weather, and this new Championship Format
that only thing in your comment that makes any sense is “Legislation has not yet been debated in the House”. – which is why a no vote will most probably carry.
Sure let’s wait till it’s over and then we’ll sort it out. – what kind of yokels dribble is this??
Because No siders are admitting defeat of the referendum by alluding to the proposed legislation
Worry about the final wording on the Bill when we get there, and any grey areas can be tested by the Courts
btw Tá by a few lengths
‘We can’t Repeal this horrible thing because I’m terrified of the Great Unknown that is the future stretching ahead into darkness and confusion’ isn’t a great pitch either, in fairness.
Alan, No side dont have the numbers-even if the undecideds have a complete brain fart and ALL vote no its not enough for a win. So your rambling, waffly point seems to be moot.
Susan, I’m not sure if you’ve met david, john, mary, alan and his many, many alter egos but you are in for a treat :)
I asked him nicely to vote YES for me but he’s not returning my calls.
Genuinely, I wish he would just go away. He sours every topic and dumps negativity all around him.
Is Susan not David?
Are YOU not david? The paranoia grows daily.
He could be me now, who knows?
david doesn’t have capital letters or any punctuation
Anythings possible, definitely a regular contributor winding up the outraged clutchpearlers. Vote No.
No I’m definitely me. But then I would say that, wouldn’t I? ;)
Nah, you’re grand thanks Karina but I’ll be voting YES, and proudly.
Me and Susan are gonna go argue about who is the better david.
The real David is the friends we made along the way.
i have to disagree, nigel
for me, david is the friends that have been silenced, the ones that have fallen by the wayside, the ones we no longer know or recognise
Those Davids are the wind blowing through the grass on a desolate winter roadside as a crow lands on a crooked wooden cross protruding from a cairn of jagged stones, ruffles its feathers and caws ‘Vote Yes!’
It won’t be lost, bruv.
Let’s be fair Fine Fail deserves at least as much blame as Fine Gael.
Also the 36th amendment is only the start, the legislation is going to take a while.
Today, I will be mostly, Anal myGee.
Hi daithi!!!!
Tell, me, honestly now, how the hell are ya? Slow day at the auld café?
The reason “this” will be lost, is because you and your odious ilk are on the way out.
Don’t let the door hit ya where the dog should’a bit ya!
Also, never go to Hayes in Glandore, terrible bang of loser off it.
Zing!
The referendum has been won. The debate’s over. Yes have won. The only thing now to discuss is whether to push for 26 weeks or further. I favor the Canadian law, it’s the most secure for women.
I’m not so sure
I spent the afternoon giving out information and trying to inform the undecided
Mixed reception frankly
It’s going to be tight
There’s some interesting people out there that’s for sure !
I agree. It’s going to be tight. But Yes have won. Trust me. I wouldn’t lie to you.
I think it will be tight as well but there is an uptick in support for women in recent years
people are sick and tired of holy joes and don’t tolerate the same scum fascism from the church and the oul wans as in former years. don’t worry about it and keep up the great work
hi janet, were there a lot of undecideds? and could you guess where most of them are leaning?
so lots of whispered yes mostly from ladies of a certain age
a bolder yes from your younger lads and ladies
a truly heartwarming yes from lots of older gentleman
the straight no would not even say good afternoon or Hello
an auld stick waving you are a baby killer charmer
and then I’d say about 20 percent undecided who stopped and said they didn’t know what to do and wanted to chat
I hope they left leaning to yes
I suggest they follow their hearts and think of the trauma that a no vote will not make go away for many wemon
A lot of older men wanted to understand that abortion won’t be used as a contraceptive and to actually talk to a woman about how accidents happen nowadays, reassuring for them to chat to a person I hope
so rambling but to answer your question
I’d say after a reassuring chat the majority leaning yes
that’s good to hear
i sense it’ll be a close one
fair play, J
good on ya Janet
I’m confident of a majority Yes but for me the margin is very important post vote for the next bit. as we’ve seen again & again & again politicians only tend to legislate in a favourable direction to whatever garners them the most support come time for the only vote that REALLY matters to them – the forthcoming GE. I’m hoping for a 10-20 point spread.
I hope everyone Yes side gets busy on the day ensuring the vote gets out, whether that means giving a lift to someone or whatever’s needed. A lot of younger people may never have voted before, assist as needed. Get that vote out!!!
and as ever…VOTE YES!
Good on you Janet!
Thankfully noone in the yes campaign is talking about 26 weeks or this would be a lot more difficult
Doctors will always choose the least worst option. Whatever that is. And, if you had an ounce of empathy, you would know that and wouldn’t behave as a gobdaw teenager seeking to shock.
No. 24 weeks is enough for Yes for now. Just 6 months that’s all.
And at 7+ months they still cannot breathe unassisted, their heart cannot beat properly, they cannot feed or suckle, they have no immune system.
Does that mean that they can be terminated? Because they’re not quite as good as us ‘real’ people.
I’m just telling you what I know from experience. That was how my daughter was at birth. Terribly ill, undersized and underformed. She absolutely was a person because she was born – because my life and her life were at risk. She wouldn’t have lived more than a few hours without the work of the staff in the nicu. And the issues she had – the manifold issues she had that would have prevented her living are standard for children born that prematurely. I am speaking as someone who could well have been a grieving mother. We honestly didn’t know if she would survive that first night.
Foetuses are just not developed enough to survive at that stage. It takes serious time and medical care to bring premature babies to a stage where they are fit to be at home.
I used to get scared by this sort of thing but now I am mindful of planes and boats. That as a nation we have yet to grow up and accept that poo happens and that we should not be still asking our neighbour to (kindly) give our women decent health care?
What happens after Brexit?
It’s only 6 months if two specialists agree that there is a serious threat to the life of the mother. Even then, if the foetus has reached viability it’s early birth. And even with all that, the mother will still have the right to choose.
Misrepresent the facts much?
DOOM! FIRE! BRIMSTONE! AND ETERNAL DAMNATION TO YOU ALL!
I liked it
went well with morning coffee,
btw I hope little Millepieds is in great form now
Sorry, that was probably a bit much.
Great post Ina. You’ve managed to marry some complacency for Yes to some fear for No while appearing to be all in support of Repeal.
I think when it wins it will propel Mary Lou in the forerunner stakes for next Taoiseach/Tanaiste
Did you spend all day in the sun?
I lolled
2 grand fellas from the ESB just took down 2x posters off the pole outside my house as they promised this morning.
as I said earlier it works. to report illegal posters on esb poles email esbnetworks@esb.ie or call 1850372999
I did my best Martco, walked around half the day looking up ESB poles but nary a poster in sight.
Sure just move a few you don’t like to ESB poles and then you can give them a call.
The ‘celebrity’ gays are out, Mother on Saturday dancing to poo disko music so. I’m joking.
The first gay man I ever seen with bare ankles was Brendan, always the fashionista, such style, it was in the washer mind.
And what is with moob man on the right?
Interesting how the group shots in No photos are always bulked out by teenagers who don’t look old enough to vote. Almost like a 6th year class in whatever convent school was told to don a pink hoodie and turn up at the designated place.
It used to be that the groups of No campaigners were too old and this was wrong. Now they’re too young. Make up your mind please.
We will. Roughly 47 hours and counting.
Too old to fupp.. too stupid to self pleasure…
Jesus christ on a bike, save us from ‘influencers’. Par for the course from Hunreal
Everyone who has ever had a one stitch (inserted rope to hold up the cheeks) face lift shall be voting Yes. Women from most rural who unable to express any emotion due to an over zealous ‘beau’ administrator and the gays. The bare ankle gays. There is no other sort if RTE are to believed. This poo is unhelpful to say the least.
Go flash your veneers at something else eh?
Free BS mug for whoever calls it? I say YES 74% NO 26%
Doubt it’ll be that high.
Can’t imagine it being higher than the Marriage Ref result of 62%?
That South William Street clique, horrendous. These ‘influencers’ are truly pathetic people with little or nothing to add to the world. I have nothing but contempt for them.
yessss pete, feel the power of the daaaaark side
That little lady in the yellow polka dot leggings is having none of it. #NotInMyName
Hah! She’s dead right.
Haha @ the handmaidens. Excellent.
Repeal the female vote. Blessed be.
Is this nonsense over yet?
No. We are getting into p!Ss take mode now. LOVE the handmaidens reference.
Have no clue what this Hunreal thing is
Is it a classier bs.tv?
Meh
Anyway
John McGuirk looks like he just got out’ve the leaba
You’d think for a presser he’d do a shirt n’ tie
Or Save the Whale t- shurt
Or whatever he’s trying to save now

They’re the ones behind Maser’s Repeal mural.
