Class. I’ve always wanted to set fire to that thing. Might send out the wrong message tho.

…I hear there’s going to be a plenary indulgence for everyone in the audience…the prelate, prelate show…

don’t worry Nigel I only have love in my heart today
one man’s lady is another’s enigma;)
gracious in victory and all that

The uproar over the cross on carrantuohill, carfillll. Pity about the Kerry vote. Catholic Ireland is alive and well. It’s a yes down here but not by a lot it seems.

I’m immediately reminded of Bishop Carey and the priest singing on stage to thousands on last Popes visit. Hypocrisy at its best and both of them secret papas.

Casey. He wasn’t the worst. At least he was having consensual sex with an adult, not raping altar boys.

        1. veritas

He was taking advantage of a women who came to him for councelling after a personal trauma.

      2. bisted

…think the priest was Cleary…remember the two were on the front cover of Pheonix who had them singing ‘there ain’t nothing like a dame’

        1. bisted

…Casey and Cleary were guilty of far worse than raping minors in the church eyes…consensual hetero-sexual sex with adult females…the divils…

Is there going to be a protest for when the pope comes in August? Some gesture of the harm the Catholic Church has caused here would be nice. I’m thinking of placards now, “no country for old pope”, “keep your rosaries”, “septic tank isle”, “all collections lead to Rome” etc.

    God bless.

I sure hope not. The pope seems like a good guy and a lot of good people get solace and hope from the genuine spiritual side of the Catholic Church. Hope everyone lets them at it

      1. Brother Barnabas

would a genuinely good guy have any association with that malevolent and fraudulent organisation?

          1. Starina

was the pope born working for the church? no. a better comparison would be the mob, or a football club, or the crips.

I am sick of hearing from the same few obnoxious campaigners on twitter. They are claiming this as a personal victory as if they had any impact on peoples personal decisions to vote. They clearly love the limelight and have used this to boost their profile.

    1. Spaghetti Hoop

Militant campaigners on both sides. The vitriol on ALL media platforms has revealed some unsavoury personalities….verified a few too.

      1. Nigel

Could be some obnoxious glory-hogging personalities. Or could be the women who lead this campaign and sweated blood and tears for it but who now need to be taken down a peg or two and put back in their place. Watch any distinction get slowly eroded by sensible centrists who knew all along the referendum would pass anyway and the Yes campaign achieved nothing significant.

        1. Tom

Sweated blood and tears? What does that mean? I’ve seen so many of them say the same thing about themselves when in reality they were sitting at home staring into their phone all night on twitter. They have done NOTHING.

          1. mildred st. meadowlark

You keep telling yourself that if it comforts you Tom. Those who’ve been involved – and I’m not for a minute claiming to be one of them – know truly what has been put into this campaign, into this long fight.

There are women who have been fighting for this since before the eighth amendment came into being. They have earned this day.

But you go ahead and lessen that fight because it makes you feel better.

          2. realPolithicks

What an idiotic comment, many of these women have put years into this campaign. What did you do?

          3. Nigel

Unless you are a creepy hi-tech surveillance stalker you’re straight up lying in a kind of generalised unspecific mass slur.

    2. Starina

this IS a personal victory. i get better health care in the event that i get pregnant or need cancer treatment, etc.

Fantastic result today. This is only the beginning. All eyes need to remain focused on the board of the new Maternity Hospital to ensure those previous reports of the hospital being run according to a Catholic ethos don’t transpire.

Now let’s remove the Catholic church from our schools, our hospitals. They should have their assets seized by the criminal assets bureau and should be banished from this country.

      1. Ron

Let me be clear Clampers. No religious cult of any shape or form should be allowed to have anything to do with public service provision in this country. It’s the states responsibility to provide such services. Religion should have absolutely NOTHING to do with the provision of such services

Honestly, I love that RTÉ logo from the 70’s. Its an icon of my childhood. Not liking whats done here.

And I voted for Yes. .

  7. Dinny Do Well?

Love it. Let’s see more of this including a take down of that St Bridget’s cross cr@p and the Angelus.

I have reckoned for a long time that our politician’s are way behind people on social issues. Some of this probably comes from their backgrounds and that they are closer to the church than most but if there was ever a wake up call, this is it. Playing it safe may no longer be an option.

Rather than the current bunch of careerists sitting around waiting on their pensions, hopefully this will inspire people who are not afraid to display real conviction to enter politics.

I am glad to say that I have today evicted the bishop who has been living rent free under my bed for 35 years. Now to find a way to prevent him squatting in state built schools and hospitals with the rest of his gang and telling us the schools and hospitals would not exist without them.
