Mattie McGrath, Michael Collins and the rest should keep quiet. The people have spoken, now let’s get on with it.

      1. CoderNerd

Mattie McGrath complained about bias in the citizen’s assembly and bias in the committee and behaved like a child. Yet the citizen’s assembly vote matched the referendum result. McGrath has been proven utterly wrong. 64% voted for no restrictions on reasons for abortion. Mattie should accept all of these democratic processes and in general keep his nose out of women’s healthcare.

We now live in a world where anyone who disagrees with the mob should hide and be silent
A dangerous path we have embarked on

    1. Nigel

You’ll never bring down that international paedophile ring being run out of a pizzeria by Bill, Hilary, Obama and Soros with that attitude.

          1. mildred st meadowlark

Don’t do it Janet. You’ll fall in the hole and that’s the last we’ll ever see of you.

Jesus, where to start on these front pages? A person could be moved to tears.

    The Observer: Replace May

Crispen Odey is citing the rise of Five Star in Italy but ignores the fact that they are a new party which are very green and not at all like the Tories. If the same happened in England, the Conservatives would be buried.

There used to be an English band called ‘pop will eat itself’. I think its time for a new one called ‘Tories will eat themselves’.

    1. Ollie Cromwell

Yet somehow the Tories remain steadfastly in front of Labour in virtually every single opinion poll.
You’ve been fed the group-think by the Irish media and lap up every morsel like a well-trained poodle.
The Tories are divided but so too are Labour and much more so.The Parliamentary Party hate Corbyn,Momentum hate most Labour MPs,Unite hate Momentum etc etc
The Liberal Democrats are nowhere to be seen, with the only LibDem leader getting any press in recent weeks being Jeremy Thorpe.
Welcome to a vibrant democracy battling on all sides over the biggest upheaval in British history since the Second World War.
Compare and contrast with an Irish government that took three months to form, with no effective opposition and populated by grasping parish pump politicians voted in by an Irish electorate easily cowed into submission by the EU.
Ireland has no power, with its national budget determined by the whim of German bankers and the institutions which bailed it out after the most recent failure by its inept political leadership to manage its own economy.
Immigration is coming along nicely with the already burdened healthcare, education and housing lurching from one crisis to the next with virtually zero long-term planning and investment for the future.
All of this watched over by an unquestioning Irish media selling the myth to its readers and viewers that the good times are on their way back, built on another property boom.
So all in all I’d worry more about what’s going on in your own back yard than having your nose pressed up against the window watching events happening on the mainland.
You haven’t even got a world cup to look forward to this year.
      Even as the 33rd Team.
That one got an even bigger laugh that when you when whipped into line by a French dwarf telling you to vote again the right way or else.
      Morning everyone !

        * You forgot the bit where we have to watch sky sports to view our hurling national game. Cracker of a match between Limerick v Cork last night .

          1. mildred st meadowlark

Oh lolsers you’re so clever thinking that one up all on your own dave

          2. GiggidyGoo

I’d love to know what the most used PIN number is in. ritalin. Something thats easily remembered, and not forgotten. 1966?

      2. Nigel

I liked the bit where they called an election to crush Labour, crushed their majority instead and jumped into bed with the DUP having completely forgotten about existence of the Irish border. So impressive.

        1. Ollie Cromwell

But still in power and still delivering Brexit.
Whereas Ireland will always be one of the water carriers of Europe.
          Like Malta.

          1. Nigel

Nice to know what you think of us. You want us to be the water carriers for the UK for whom we apparently barely have object permanence.

          2. SOQ

Delivering Brexit? How? Where? A major sponsor has just called for the sacking of the prime minster ffs. If they don’t come up with a workable solution very soon, NI remains in the EU and the DUP can go whistle.

          3. Ollie Campbell

            ” A major sponsor ” ? He donated 50k.
That wouldn’t even pay for Boris’s annual wine bill.
Although I can imagine it seems like a lot of dough if you live anywhere near the smell of manure in Ireland.
            Which is basically everywhere.

          4. RepealerBertie

“I never said it would be a beneficial thing to leave”, Nigel Farage, LBC, 29/5/18.

LOFL!!! Good luck with the monorail.

          1. Ollie Cromwell

Theresa May will be gone before the Tory party conference.
There’s still plenty of Brexit fireworks to be had but ultimately Brussels will do a deal – they’re desperate for the 39 billion.
Shame,as a No Deal Brexit would be the best outcome for Britain and Ireland would be back living on nettle soup and sending their children out to be the world’s navvies once again.
Especially when whatever jobs that are left are being carried out by more reliable and less feckless immigrant workers.
The Nigerians are going to be the new Polish in Ireland.
            Hey ho.

          2. RepealerBertie

Don’t worry, the EU will still have plenty of Britain’s money post Sasamach as the RA pay for the privilege of trading with us tariff free.

          3. Nigel

That’s a lot of unpleasant anti-Irishness to cover how badly the UK is screwing up.

          4. RepealerBertie

Remember the days when an muintir Sasamach used to deny it was about xenophobia?

      3. RepealerBertie

“Ireland has no power” you say and yet we’re holding up Sasamach in a move which will eventually lead to a United Ireland.

          1. RepealerBertie

That was before the RA voted to wind the economy back to the 1950’s. NI voted Remain and Unionist farmers are now openly discussing the benefits of a United Ireland over a post-Sasamach RA. Putting the AE/RA border in the Irish Sea will be a major step towards reunification.

            #RepealtheActofUnion

          2. RepealerBertie

My mistake, that’s the poll that convinced professional reality denier Sammy Wilson that 69% support for NI to remain in the AE is an endorsement of the DUP’s Sasamach strategy.

          3. Ollie Cromwell

Keep the faith feller but 21% ?
You’ve got more chance of getting a nosh of the Queen of England.

          4. RepealerBertie

Sasamach hasn’t happened yet. When it does, and the food shortages hit, we’ll talk.
            https://twitter.com/gweccles/status/1003188659909283840

Meanwhile “Cash for ash” Foster is telling May she’ll pull support if NI is treated differently than the rest of the RA after Sasamach and also that she’ll pull support if NI is treated the same as the rest of the RA on abortion and SSM. If your Taoiseach can’t even out negotiate the DUP it’s no wonder the AE are laughing up their sleeves at the gang of incompetents on team Sasamach.

      4. Derrynane

Does no one even entertain the idea that “Ollie Cromwell” is a paid agent? So much clueless naivety on here … wake up fools.

        1. RepealerBertie

It is in the UK’s interest to make the EU look like a bad idea for Ireland. All this talk about the Ireland being supine or boot licking or toeing the EU line or being viewed as fools by the EU is an attempt to turn Irish opinion against the EU. It’s so obvious it’s hilarious and hardly requires pointing out, even by us fools.

          1. vertigo

            There you go again
I see it now the British playing games to make the EU look bad for Ireland
Before we had the EU the world thrived and life went on
And after the EU the world will still revolve and life will go on
Britain will evolve as we will
The British are an international trading nation with a commonwealth which is a trading block
And just looking at the latest possible crises with a trade war brewing with the USA

          2. vertigo

            Tick tock Bertie
Just sit there as others decide your future for what’s best for them
            And be happy

          3. RepealerBertie

Why wouldn’t I be happy? The Irish government is dictating the terms of Sasamach and I remain a citizen of the EU with all the free trade and travel benefits that citizenship brings. Meanwhile Taoiseach May and her team of amadáns keep playing down the “benefits” of Sasamach while they struggle to figure out what it actually means and their country flounders through their incompetent indifference.

            Also, the weather is lovely.

    1. jusayinlike

And lied about it, and got impeached.. his brother Roger was convicted of cocaine trafficking also..

          1. RepealerBertie

Not at all. I’m just curious as to why you think his brother has any relevance. I can see no reason to include him other than to try and taint by association and, frankly, the drug dealing brother comes off worst there.

          2. jusayinlike

Bill pardoned him for no apparent reason, he also pardoned cocaine trafficking child solicitation convict Dan Lasater, again I’m sorry my calling out of convicted criminals some how offends your sensitive values..

          3. jusayinlike

” I see no reason to include him only to taint by association.. ”

And yet here you are disagreeing with me..

          4. RepealerBertie

Not disagreeing. I just didn’t see the need to drag Clinton’s drug dealing brother in when there’s plenty to blame Clinton for without him and he could hardly be responsible for his brother’s actions but I was completely unaware of the pardon.

  4. SOQ

Arlene says that nationalist and republicans will vote DUP because of abortion. There may be true of a small section but given that the vast majority are in favour, it is much more likely to be the other way around.

In a way, the DUP are the best possible advocates for a united Ireland. Their skewed version of British culture means young NI is already collectively aspiring to ROI laws. They are not helping their cause by clinging to religious dogma and demanding the status quo.

No matter what happens to Stormont, Westminster should just put both abortion and equal marriage to a popular vote. It may not be legally binding but just like Australia, politicians who defy will have a serious blowback. Once and for all, single issue politics is the way to break the suffocating tribalism within NI.

      1. bisted

…if you distilled the most hardline, ultra catholic, bitter middle-class nationalist into a single entity, you’d probably get Mickey ‘Sacred’ Harte…don’t be holding your breath for that vote Arlene…

        1. SOQ

Ultra catholic, bitter middle-class nationalist = http://onlineccms.com. You will see them in Newry in their ostentatious BMW personalised modes of transport; ether that or the Audi A6 propelled SF councillors with their questionable Newry and Mourne planning decisions.

As for Mickey Harte, he always has the option of relocating to the ‘mainland’.
