From the Ombudsman’s annual report for 2017
From April of last year.
The Ombudsman and the Ombudsman for Children started to accept complaints from people living in Direct Provision centres across Ireland.
The system of direct provision was set up in 1999 as an emergency measure.
Today, the annual report of the Ombudsman for 2017 shows that Peter Tyndall’s office received 115 complaints from asylum seekers and refugees living in State-provided accommodation centres.
Of the 115 complaints received, nine were upheld and 25 were not upheld.

27% You could spin this in so many ways…
Asylum seekers causing trouble: “only 8% of complaints upheld.”
Naught services: “just over 1 in 5 complaints were not upheld” (22%) or
27% of Ombudsman complaints not completed
Or, we could look at the completed complaints and say of the 84 that were complete:
26 had assistance provided (31%)
25 were not upheld (30%)
24 were withdrawn (29%) and
9 were upheld (10.7%)
This isn’t Hotel California, they can leave when ever they want, and we can offer generous food and shelter to many others in need.
One way plane tickets for all.
Hopefully you’ll be first in line.
I’d hate to imagine what you consider miserly and sub standard.
Christmas round the O’Keeefes must be awesome…….
“115 Complaints”…..
or ……
“0.18% of persons in direct provision had a complaint upheld…” (9/5,000)
You gotta love statistics/headlines/manipulation of the innumerate.
