I feel a little social responsibility is required by Lidl, a 7, 480 litre pool for sale from Thursday. I hope Lidl see sense and remove this product considering the situation with water.
Just think of it in a few months time, torn and forlorn, mildewed and subdued in the corner of a suburban timber shed.

not everyone is an urban rat that expects free water from a pipe, some people have their own wells which they own and operate and as such can fill a pool without depleting Irish Waters’ reserves.

That’s full of weewees.
Brother Barnabas
a friend of mine got a big pool like that and put it on a little empty lot in the east village for the kids in the neighborhood. a local homeless man stripped off, got in and did a poo in it. that ended the fun.

Was that not an episode of Shameless US?

If Irish Water can’t manage our water why are they employed?
Rob_G
Yes, it’s their fault that they can’t control the weather…
Managing the water included doing things like telling people there is a freeze, telling people there is a drought, etc…
Alan McGee
It is their fault they can’t manage supply of the service they’re employed to manage.
We some times have quite cold weather, we sometimes have quite hot weather (not extreme weather). Are you saying that Irish Water don’t have to manage the supply during the slightly difficult times? Instead they wait until crisis then issue warnings. Nonsense.
Rob_G
Telling people off for excessive consumption is ‘managing the supply’. If they were going around issuing hosepipe bans willy-nilly you would have a point, but this is the hottest summer since 1976…
Giggidygoo
Almost €3bn, down the drain to these boyos, would have managed a lot of pipe replacement instead of laughter lessons, gyms and Audi’s.

3.64 metres by 84cm would hardly hold 2 kids

Bet the Muppets after they put it together scratch their heads wondering why they bought the fecking thing

Two adults 5′ 10″ would could lie on their backs with their feet on the side and their heads would only just touch. How big are your kids? Of course it’s not actually for swimming but lots of kids could fit in this

Reminds me of that Phoenix Nights line (which was, I suppose, a retread of the Fr Ted one) where Max and Paddy have a load of Small People running towards ’em and Paddy squints and asks “How far away are they?”

This story, along with the same sense of outage, was in that English Tory rag, the Irish Daily Mail, last week… Says it all, really.

social responsibility?
ask the demolition contractor next door to hawkins house to turn off his hydrant and save 1000’s of litres a minute?
Dhaughton99
Same with construction at James’s hospital.

That’s nothing compared to the lads who built their own pool out of pallets, tarp and cling film in South Finglas last week.
Parp
No, no they didn’t.
Starina
So what was the video I saw of kids in South Tallaght swimming in a pool made out of pallets, tarp and cling film?

Now, that Lidl that was destroyed by a JCB doesn’t seem like such a bad thing.

Here is a telling stat: people living in the most affluent areas consume more water than those living in less well-off areas.
And one can understand their reasoning – they probably think that given that they are paying the top rate of income tax, and water is paid for from the general tax take, they are already paying for their water, and as they won’t be charged more for any additional water that they use, why wouldn’t they water the lawn when they feel like it?
Yet another compelling argument for end-user water charges…

We need more ice for our G&Ts, Rob. It’s totes simples.
I’m beginning to miss the Repeal the 8th posts.
Re-pool the 8th!!
Expect to see marauding groups with giant images of thirsty people outside shops selling paddling pools and hotels with leisure centres.
Totally fine, its a fake drought. Nothing but propaganda from IW and Met Eireann.
Yeah, it’s raining really but MET Éireann have us all doped up on chem trails to hallucinate these weeks of unending sunshine.
As long as you fill it up with buckets there shouldn’t be a problem
of vodka.
I look at that and think about the Simpsons episode when Homer gets a swimming pool. “Chlorine, EH?
