Splutter!

Yesterday.

Louyghhall, County Armagh.

This is why we had to invent the bodhrán.

Well that’s something I never thought I’d see, fair play to him if it helps bitter people to maybe think differently about their neighbours, it’s a brave PR move

Fair play to BOD. It’s a positive step.
I know people think boycotting and disengagement is the way. I disagree.

oh Topsy. Do you miss the bombing and maiming? The protection rackets, the intimidation, the kangaroo courts?
Does playing rugby make a person less Irish Topsy?

        A1, Andrew.

Random internet commentator calls someone who represented his country (all 32 counties of Ireland, no less) a ‘west Brit Unionist’. I tell you what, Topsy, you go and find some 16 stone full-back and tell him how playing rugby makes him less Irish than you, and let us know how you get on.

Is it that other west brit sport rounders sorry cricket, where they won’t play Amhrán na bhFiann,Ireland’s official national anthem,or is it that Irelands ‘national’ sport Rugby, gosh we may cause offense to those west brits by actually playing our own national anthem !

          1. Rob_G

I don’t watch either of those sports, so I couldn’t tell you. If you are ever called upon to represent Ireland at anything, I do hope that they give you a free choice of song.

In your opinion, players representing their country should get say like turns picking the aul ‘songs’ to play before matches or is it ”fixtures”.
Isin’t that kinda like representing Ireland in the Euro song thing,I get the analogy with that west brit sport rugby!
BOD is all about the ‘brand’, the man credited with creating it, was know as Doc due to his hands on approach to treating young fell’s injuries, specifically groin starins.BOD’s silence on his mentor and BFF, has been deafening on this !

No matter what your political persuasion, it should stir something in you, when your country is playing sport – but your national anthem is not played – yet your opponent team’s is.

          4. Rob_G

@ Bernie – I would prefer if they played the national anthem as well, but it is an all-island sport on a complicated island, what can you do. Lots of Irish athletes compete with songs other than the national anthem being played (or indeed, no music at all), and I can’t say that it diminishes my enjoyment to any noticeable degree.

          5. Bernie

Rob_G, personally, it’s a sore point for me when our national anthem is not played. I don’t understand how it can offend, if the other country’s is played. I don’t follow alot of sport, but always watch Ireland play (and England, in the hope that they lose).

Have s great weekend Johnny and Rob.

I look forward to that documentary. There are communities in both ROI and NI like Rugby who quietly work away together and never get lauded.

Maybe we will see more them now because they deserve some recognition.

    1. Scundered

An awful lot of the positive stuff never gets reported, the shocking stories = more clicks (€)

Good on BOD. If some random person walked up and asked to have a go, would they be well received?

    1. shitferbrains

Probably. I brought an American friend to a drumming match and he was given a drum to batter.

  5. Cú Chulainn

I’m all for it. But, the OO is a deeply sectarian organisation. I know that spending time together will help dissipate that overt hostility but they are a nasty bunch and I’m not sure we should be normalising them.

  6. Jesús, María, and Josépha

Can he play Ireland’s Call on it? He should. But shame on him for engaging with a sectrarian, racist organization with links to some disgusting people.

    1. Rob_G

Yeah, we should never engage with anyone that we might disagree with, I am sure that that will achieve loads.
