While not often found crying, I have been literally moved to tears listening to “The Killing of Georgie Parts I and II” by Rod Stewart because of the story told in the song and the plaintive “Oh Georgie, stay” outro. (I’m wellin’ up here just writing that.)
Also Kermit singing The Rainbow Connection because “the lovers, the dreamers and me”. It is pure joy, optimism and happiness in song form.

While not often found crying (lies), I have literally been moved to tears listening to Starry Starry Night by Don McLean because it’s a wonderful song that tells the bittersweet story of a misunderstood artist, who fought bitterly against the pain of mental illness and I can’t help but be moved by it.
I almost always cry at the line: “Frameless heads on nameless walls with eyes that watch the world and can’t forget.”
+ 1 Mildred.
Che chelida la manina – Pavarotti
And while not actually contemporary as such, Ne Me Quitte Pas by Jacques Brel is absolutely stunning and heartbreaking, even if you don’t speak French.

+1 Millie.
A song that rips my guts out everytime I hear it.
While never found crying, I have been almost moved to tears listening to an upbeat panpipes-version of Bridge Over Troubled Waters because the cafe beneath my office has been playing it repeatedly on loop since around half 10.
Heh. Years ago I was on a long-haul Iberia flight (not to be recommended, total cheapo airline) where the song they played on a loop when we were delayed (by quite a long time) and when we taxied on both sides of the journey was Changes by Seu Jorge. When I hear it now I want to tear my own ears off.
I’m trying to remember how long ago it was. Well over ten years ago and it still enrages me,
Pan pipes are the musical instrument of the devil himself.

while not often found crying, I have been moved to thoughts of mindless violence by the debilitating white noise people play through inefficient headsets on public transport
Happy Friday everyone on the 69 today

I’d call them intrusive thoughts (less provocative than mindless violence)
Like when I’m walking down a flight of stairs and I’m being held up by a really slow person. That little voice appears in the back of my mind saying ‘go on, just push them, nobody is watching’

While not often found crying, I have been literally moved to tears listening to Dry your eyes by The Streets because even though it’s a bit twee it does perfectly capture the deeply unpleasant experience of a surprise breakup not of your instigation. R.I.P.
Wichita Lineman, Glen Campbell
after the da passed I had to clear out his house as you do.
had spent my teenage years busily cringing inside as he played his records…Cash, Campbell, Diamond, Irish showband shite…and raging against it all with the Buzzcocks, Specials, Clash etc.
I never ever gave his musical choices much respect at the time, what a plonker I was.
anyways I spent a week playing those records as I cleared & sorted the house…Wichita Lineman was the one that got me deepest. great song.
Iondon underground by amateur transplants coz it’s a cracker of a song and reminds me of my new english mate ollie
“While not often found crying, I have been literally moved to tears listening to Suzanne by Leonard Cohen because it was the song we were listening to when I received my first kiss. It was 1976, she was 16 and I was 14, I remember it like it was yesterday.

Gorgeous song. One of my favourites.
I love Leonard Cohen and this song in particular, it just has a little extra something for me.
Alicia Ross by Canadian singer Kathleen Edwards.
Written about a local girl who went missing and was murdered.
She often welled up signing it live and it’s a beautiful, yet tragic song.
I never knew the story when I first heard it.

Amazing Grace.

While not often found crying, I have been literally moved to tears listening to Can’t Get Used to Losing You by The Beat because that 10-yr old SKA head that kissed me at the school disco NEVER TEXTED, EMAILED, SKYPED OR SNAP-CHATTED.
Do you use your real name, Lilly? It’s not Bernie, no, funnily enough ;-)
I do ;)
No. My real name is Frilly, but Frilly had it already taken :)
What’s Frilly short for then? ;-)
Well I can’t speak for Frilly-Frilly, but in my case it’s short for Frillypants.
Thought it might be short for something exotic like Franchesca.
Id better clock off or i’ll be fined for talking sh!te on here.
Frillypants, it’s been a pleasure :-)

While not often found crying I have been literally moved to tears listening to Us And Them by Pink Floyd.
Not just because it comes from Dark Side Of The Moon (arguably the best album ever). Not because I have been listening and understanding the track and album since I was 7.
But because it’s melody soaring sax crescendo and profound lyric. The fundamental questions are asked. Who are we what are we doing here and how can we survive it.
It’s a trippy song that’s so emotively charged. Love respect and connection are the answers.
When I saw Roger Waters perform this masterpiece in Dublin recently I was an emotional wreck with the imagery he used to accompany the song.
“Out of the way
It’s a busy day
I’ve got things on my mind
For want of the price
Of tea and a slice
The old man died”
