Going The Distance

Luas security worker Mark Conlon, from Clondalkin, Dublin, runs 33 marathons in 33 days to raise awareness about homelessness.

Money raised by Mark will go to the Peter McVerry Trust.

In fairness.

Meanwhile…

Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Bróin tweetz:

Rebuilding Ireland isn’t working. Two years on & homelessness is up 50%, pensioner homelessness up 53%, child homelessness up 63%. It is time for a new plan.

Fair play but don’t see why you should use this to plug Sinn Fein election material, but if you want to know what a Sinn Fein government looks like cast your gaze up north.

Do you know which party is the largest in on Dublin City Council, and has the controlling vote on the housing committee?

Well, Northern Ireland, which has one-quarter of the population of Ireland, has 15,000 homeless people compared to 8,000 homeless people down here, so I wouldn’t have huge confidence in their rhetoric, no.

NIHE differentiates between homeless and statutory homeless – which includes those living in social housing

on average, there are eight people sleeping rough in belfast every night
