Isn’t it about time these companies in my country who are instrumental in providing platform for hate speech and anti-social activity were told to clean up the act or clear off.
A few commercial Pride dollars and rainbows don’t cut it.
There role hands in hand with government is not acceptable either.
So, Mr Tourist with the thumbs up (above), what’s to ‘Like’ here exactly?
Out of touch, out of here. Please.
Meanwhile…
You won’t like this.
Full interview between Facebook Vice President of Global Policy Lord Richard Allan and Krishnan Guru-Murthy, of Channel 4’s Dispatches, revealing how Facebook decides what users can and can’t see on the platform.
Good times.

It’s all clicks and ads to them. They don’t care about consent or data usage until the “wrong” result is obtained. Then there’s some minor parliamentary hoo-ha, hoodie becomes suit, and then it’s back to normal… same old stuff. Vile.
+1
Hit refresh and repeat for next scandal.
I am sure that the vast majority of people in Ireland are delighted that Facebook is here, creating loads of jobs and generating loads of revenue – welcome to democracy, baby.
You’re delighted to have a company that deemed a video of a man punching and kicking a toddler to be acceptable?
‘Hate speech’
I wonder what this person defines as ‘hate speech’ ?
are you saying there’s no hate speech on facebook?
No, I’m not
why does anyone care if there is “hate speech” on Facebook?
People who are targeted by hate speech probably care, for a start.
Per the programme last night, regards hate speech you can’t type “Fupp off Muslims” but you can type “Fupp off Muslim Immigrants”. Their reasoning was preposterous like most of their reasoning behind leaving up the child abuse video, the schoolgirls kicking the heads off each other video and the self harm pictures. The fact is that the controversial videos and pics get more clicks than Kittens jumping up on Dogs hence increased revenue from advertisers. From what I could see the moderator trainers hadn’t a clue half the time so like a copy of a copy, get one bad trainer and it just goes downhill from there.
Saw the program last night, white people problems. Facebook is for clowns.
The people calling for the ‘brutal assault’ videos to be taken down without prejudice are the same people who post ‘brutal assault’ videos to further whatever agenda they have and would flip out if they were taken down without prejudice.
It was a Channel 4 program.
Why is such material not automatically removed, he is asked in Inside Facebook: Secrets of the Social Network (Channel 4, Tuesday, 9pm) an undercover exposé of Facebook’s content review department, based in Dublin. “For better user experience,” he responds in numbed tech jargon. Forget the Nuremberg defence.
Would RTE have made it? Nah.

So if there was footage of Varadkar punching a journalist , would you be happy if that was automatically removed by a bot?
could you post a link to that, please
Possibly a role play thing he does with Chris?
The energy used in our digital consumption is set to have a bigger impact on global warming than the entire aviation industry.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jul/17/internet-climate-carbon-footprint-data-centres
It is true that this is a concern, but the fact that our climate is so crappy means that passive cooling can be used more here than in lots of other places.
Bitcoin and other cryptos are also a massive problem in that regard. Not to mention it’s near impossible to find a decent bloody graphics card for less than a kings ransom anymore.
The problem is way more than bitcoin. The blockchain like replication structure of Office 365 uses crazy amounts of energy.
Who uses Facebook for anything except snooping and sniping?
As a news source? Journalism is DEAD.
What’s the full story behind Elon Musk’s involvement with the Thai cave rescue effort?

‘Journalism is dead’ screams Jesus as he posts an article written by a self confessed Musk Fanboy (it’s right there in one of the first paragraphs).
Sterling job there.

yes i read it earlier. It offers no real reason as to why musk called that guy that.
It offers plenty of evidence that Musk is a great guy and answers a lot of questions that were never asked.
He did it because there are paedos in Thailand, see.
Are y’all saying Thigh-land? Stop it. It drives me INSANE that Irish people get it wrong ALL THE TIME. Thames, thyme, Thailand, Anthony. SILENT FUPPING H.
i DID NOT know that about anthony. have been doing it wrong forever.
but I did (once) very passively wonder why antony in antony and cleopatra didn’t have a h. possibly a different thing altogether.
Theresa is another one.
didnt know that either. but have always ignored the h in theresa anyway on basis that it could have been avoided so someone was just being awkward for sake of it.
Pass me the tHyme, THeresa: I need to make this recipe I discovered in THailand as I glide along the THames on my longboat with my friend AntHony.
*defenestrates self*
you know i don’t like to nitpick but being one of the quintessential herbes de provence, you’d have no business using thyme in a thai dish
I just had a taught. This wasn’t the way we were thought to pronounce tings. All this diptong stuff sticks in me troath
Fair enoughski.
THai Basil, singing A Bunch of THyme.
I know all the words to that song, weirdly. I think I used to sing it as my party piece at birthdays. Bringing the cool since the 70s, me.
Throat! That’s another one. Most Cork people say troth. No wonder I left.
LOOK HERE YOU THis THat THese THose THat is THe way T H goes has been THe fundamental cornerstone of my existence and you can’t take THat away from me.
Great idea. Yes, let’s get rid of all FDI and return this country to its pristine state as a depopulated 3rd world field on the edge of nowhere because we don’t like something on a website.
Really? You’re demanding a multinational who uses Ireland as a brassplate continue giving special protection to racist and bigoted pages because of clickbait earnings generated by other racists and bigots in case they take outsourced jobs away?
Ah, Daisy. You’re ruining it by making it sound like a bad thing.
Spoilsport.

Is that the States favorite recruitment company for the HSE who is also also the trainer at Facebook.?
Pretty sure that’s Mr. Facebook Employee not Mr. Tourist.
Those animal abuse videos help us empower users and overthrow regimes.
Facebook claim their address as ‘Grand Canal Square’, as per the photo. Yet the front door is actually sited on ‘Misery Hill’. Odd that they don’t use the correct address.
I’m under 40, I don’t use Facebook. It was setup to rank hot college women. What are people expecting? They need numbers and the dumb. To click the dumber.

Ooh.
Hoist by your own petard lads.

“Sure we should be glad of the jobs” – Rob_G and confederates:

“In the investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme a reporter worked at Cpl Resources, Facebook’s largest centre for UK content moderation.
Over a six-week period between March and April this year, the reporter attended training sessions and filmed conversations in the Cpl offices in Dublin.
…
One moderator filmed in the programme said: “If you start censoring too much then people stop using the platform. It’s all about money at the end of the day.”
…
In one training session filmed by Dispatches, the group is shown a cartoon of a woman drowning a young white girl in a bathtub, accompanied by the caption “when your daughter’s first crush is a little negro boy”.
The trainer says such images should be ignored by moderators and allowed to remain online.
…
The investigation also found that extremist pages which had a lot of followers would be treated with special consideration, in the same manner as pages for governments and large news organisations”

“Of the 1,000 affected workers, around 40 worked in a counter-terrorism unit based at Facebook’s European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. Six of those were assessed to be “high priority” victims of the mistake after Facebook concluded their personal profiles were likely viewed by potential terrorists.”
