The Irish Indo would have gone with “lady doctors”
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
It has a ring to it, though, doesn’t it? “Hello, fine Lady Doctor! Could you check my prostate?”
Papi
Ring and prostate in the same sentence, Bullseye!
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
Ha! Entirely unintended but YEAH!
rotide
Interesting that one region is all over the top of the chart. Wonder is it a cultural thing or a statistical anomaly? Same applies to the bottom two
Pip
It was always a boast of the old Soviet Union that so many doctors were women.
Equality, freedom, opportunity and all that.
But it was also a fact that they weren’t at all well paid.
Cian
Were any jobs well paid?
Pip
I suppose that was part of my point, Cian.
We might have assumed a sizeable differential between doctor’s pay and that of many others – like here.
But it wasn’t there.
Starina
Health care is seen as a feminine job in Russia/former Soviet regions; they would find a male doctor slightly odd the same way we tend to see male nurses as unusual here. Of course, doctors aren’t paid very well over there either because it’s not seen as something a real man would do.
Worlds Biggest Ranter
If we could have a Poll showing female representation in the following industries please that would be great:
Mining
Building
Mechanics
Waste Removal Workers
Public Transport Drivers
Pilots
Huge demand currently in these sectors. Hurry ladies, your participation is greatly needed. Or is it just the handy stuff ye want?
Nigel
Yeah ladies only going for handy stuff that takes five years of medical training and another four of specialised training to become a GP.
Worlds Biggest Ranter
Decidedly lacking in many professions all the same. Just pointing out the obvious. You cant just blame the system then abstain from entire professions. We’d all love jobs in clean, controlled hours well paid environments.
Nigel
Yes women working long hours at difficult jobs in open environments completely unknown throughout recorded history.
Worlds Biggest Ranter
No just statistically correct today. Goes against the grain to say it in today’s environment and certainly wont fit well with “generation twees” woke attitude but facts are facts. There’s plenty of situations in life where women were discriminated against. This is also fact but one of many facts.
Lets balance the argument up though. Yeah I know people like yourself will only want to put forward the down trodden argument so as to ingratiate yourself with the gratitude of the afflicted. There’s two sides to the coin. “I demand equality and equal gender representation on all building sites from now on or the house doesn’t get built” Now explain to me why that sounds silly!
Nigel
It sounds silly because it is what they call a ‘straw man’ argument, and stupid even for that category. ‘Women are too lazy to do hard work how dare you suggest I’m a misogynist!’ as you might say yourself.
Starina
Clean, controlled hours. Aaahahahahahaha
Just anecdotally, I have two female friends who qualified as nurses so they could work while still studying to be doctors, they are in their late twenties and only just graduating as docs in the last year after years of no sleep, long shifts with no set clock-off time, followed by long studying sessions, and now they still have years offurther training ahead. They do it because it’s their calling but they aren’t paid particularly well for the absolute slog they get through.
A third pal is an OR nurse and works a lot of nights standing in surgery with a freakin’ liver in her hand for 13 hours.
Huh – turns out that we are all doing quite well in this regard.
Ssssssh!
