Today.

From 2pm to 4pm.

Outside 35, Summerhill Parade, Dublin 1, which has been occupied by housing activists since Tuesday evening…

Summerhill Occupation writes:

Join us for a fun-filled day of community spirit, solidarity and celebration outside our occupation in Summerhill.

We’ll have music, magic, face-painting, food and arts and crafts to keep people of all ages entertained.

We’ll also have information about housing, tenants’ rights and the occupation at our stall.

Joinn us while we illegally trespass, if we can’t buy a home we’ll just take one. It beats working!

        HAHA good one scottser.

I’d rather is this group found out who the property owner is and why it’s vacant.
I’d rather see people being encouraged to let their property instead of leaving it to fall apart.
Has the owner died? Is it going to probate? If it’s a case that they can’t be bothere then a punitive tax should apply, not this attention seeking occupation nonsense

+1 about the face painting, it’s a direct action protest – not a creche, it’s not a fluffy, let’s talk about it, locally sourced quinoa yoga session, protests can get violent and sometimes need to get violent or at least very animated about an obvious injustice, this craic of bringing children along to adult situations seems a bit off, like an electronic music festival I attended last weekend..actual babies and bored children with industrial ear protection in a sea of semi-sober adults…it’s a self-righteous no from me..

I have a problem with developers sitting on empty houses. I have a problem with perfectly good houses in great locations falling into dereliction.
But I’m not sure I have a problem with “gentrification”. Does that just mean that the house gets done up and a young family buy it and move in?

Totally agree- Summerhill is an ugly rundown area and is very far off gentrification unfortunately.
