I read several estimates of how much the Cash family receive in Social Welfare payments. Does anyone know if these are correct or is it lies?
Cú Chulainn
In fairness, she’s a 28 year old mum with 7 children… she’ll do anything to look after her kids.. but there are legitimate questions that need to be addressed. Sadly, it’s just political football and naive journalists.. smacks of an ‘engineered’ story.. sorry if that seems cold.. but..
johnny
WTF has someones social welfare payments got do with you, get a life and try find some gratitude.Spare me the ‘hard working’ taxpayer nonsense, your obsessed with this poor woman and her children and what they may or may not receive-why ?
Lilly
That seems to be the attitude of people I’ve talked to offline. They are sick to the back teeth of what they perceive as people gaming the system. One woman I’ve heard of has been waiting over a year for a hip replacement, and is in pain. She’s being offered ECT for depression instead. I find thus outrageous. She’s depressed because she’s in agony every day. It’s reasonable to look at how funds are allocated and why.
Ollie Cromwell
Of course the system can be gamed easily – why do you think it attracts so many people to this country ?
Imagine you’re sat scratching your hole somewhere and someone tells you of this place where the moment you arrive they give you free accomodation,a free medical card and free walking around money.
They’ll even help you buy your kids’ confirmation outfits.
And the wife gives birth and wants to store her breast milk ? Here ya go,some more dosh for a new fridge.
You come from Nigeria ? Not a bother.Straight on the dole for you. http://www.thejournal.ie/court-social-welfare-fraud-3920312-Mar2018/
Nigel
You leave the basin by the bed so you can vomit your racism into it rather than all over decent people having their late Sunday brunches dyja not know that?
dylad
Where does this happen really- in direct provision or your imagination?
johnny
lost me-your sick of people gaming the system to get ‘ECT” ?
I’ve no idea what that is nor off this poor woman allegedly in agony daily and depressed that you’ve heard about with a sore hip in need of replacement……..
Do you believe that funds she deserves and no doubt earned by working hard, are being siphoned off to pay social welfare,or is this just another load of whataboutery?
Lilly
It’s unfortunate that you can’t understand plain English, or use Google. We probably need to look at our education system as well.
MaryLou's ArmaLite
Because the sums of Social Welfare being mentioned are far in excess of what many earn
johhny
“Arbeit macht frei”
Lilly
Nobody wants to turn the country into a labour camp, Johhny, but there’s nothing wrong with the public wanting an overview of how finite resources are allocated. Plenty of people are struggling. By shutting down the conversation, we run the risk of infantalising adults.
Nigel
If that conversation can’t be had outside of the context of savaging a homeless family then we’re neither ready nor capable of having that conversation.
johnnny
call your FG rep-start a campaign to overhaul the social welfare system, but using this poor woman and her kids as whipping boy, for your discontent, nah.
if your life sucks, do something about it but stop blaming this poor woman and her innocent kids for whatever largesse in the system, you perceive to exist.
Lilly
It’s all part of the same conversation, Nigel.
Nigel
That’s not a conversation. It’s screaming abuse at the vulnerable.
Ollie Cromwell
Look At Me Nigel indulges in virtue-signalling on sourdough toast with sliced avocado for his ” late Sunday brunch.”
Lilly
‘call your FG rep-start a campaign to overhaul the social welfare system’. Yes, I have them on speed dial. And the health system, and the housing crisis… I’m not blaming this woman for anything btw.
Nigel
FUPP YOU OLLIE It’s organic rolled porridge oats with llama milk and honey dribbled from a curated rustic bee hive you ignorant racist toerag.
Ollie Cromwell
Oats ?
A large bowl of humbug surely.
Nigel
A bowl of humbug! Haha! Where do you get them? The 18th century, obviously!
2 o’clock in the morning lecturing people and telling people what tey should and shouldn’t care about johnny. Good man.
WTF is the matter with you ? If anyone needs a life johnny, it is YOU
johnny
Life’s been very good to me Andrew,so good in fact that I have lots of compassion for those less well off, who weren’t afforded the same opportunities in life that I was given.
Is there a ‘window’ to comment, like 9-5 or can you image from whatever backwards little spot you inhabit, that some people OMG travel and maybe in LA on business or NY and then Dublin as part of a fun filled and happy life !
Or maybe their waxing a surf board and its only 7 am, and are about to paddle out and catch a few waves before breakfast:)
Andrew
are you still drink johnny? Go to bed pal
johnny
not that its any of your business, but I actually don’t drink like many very successful athletes and irish businessmen,as its been the downfall of the nation, I never touch a drop.
but carry on with the insults and. abuse, you really are a very odd chap.
Lilly
Spoken like a true man-child, Johnny. Compassion and cake for everyone! Send me the bill. Not.
FYI, it’s not unknown for Irish women to succeed in business.
Johnny
Hold on who’s paying for your friend up the road that’s in pain daily and suffering from depression, given the horrendous waiting time you alluded to with your anecdote it’s fair assume she’s not exactly paying herself for that new hip or shall we say covered by first rate private health insurance, for that bill !
Quite the leap there Lilly from accusations of alcoholism to misogyny-try get out a little more or read ,perhaps you won’t have resort to tall tales of ladies up the road and immature ad hominem comments.
Nigel
Johnny Compassion Cakes is the name of…something I just don’t know what.
Lilly
That morning surf is not doing much to mellow your mood, Johnny. Sounds like to need to get out more yourself.
Andrew
yes johnny. The temerity of a taxpayer to even ask such a question!
MaryLou's ArmaLite
Excuse me Johnny but this is the first comment I’ve made on this issue, so you spare me your false accusation.
And while people are entitled to social welfare, the people that pay for it are entitled to ask about it.
Rob_G
Also, this wasn’t the public picking some random person on social welfare and demanding to know their personal situation; it was someone who decided to put themselves in the public eye by staging a publicity stunt and inviting Anthony Flynn and some press photographers along to drum up some support. The risk with appealing to the public is that the public my not interpret the circumstances in the way that you would like.
Dhaughton99
No mention of her burglary conviction?
Cian
What sums have been suggested?
Before we can say if they are correct
MaryLou's ArmaLite
I’ve heard person would need to earn well in excess of €50k and some suggest it would be closer to €60k
ilIt is not a massive wage, and probably doesn’t go far with 7 kids, but it is a wage that is well out of the reach of most people in Ireland
Nigel
You realise that’s more a condemnation of stagnant wage rates than social weflare, right? If anything it suggests a form of rampant corporate welfare where low wages are being subsidised by the state.
MaryLou's ArmaLite
Nonsense
Average wage growth over the last 5 years is about 2.5% per annum.
wally
I just wonder the headlines cashes partner in jail
Wonder what relevance this has regarding his children having to go to sleep in a garda station
Maybe its to dirty the family name as the state fights back
If so is this the tactics from Leo’s SCUnit
Wonder is drums family homeless tonight?
Wonder was Lowry having to put his children in a garda station to sleep on stools
Lilly
It’s the Sun, Wally. No one who reads it wonders about anything.
Ben Redmond
If the Minister returns urgently from his holiday in the Camino, it won’t help to house the homeless. The ‘philosophy’ of mainstream parties is that ‘the market’ will look after homelessness and the housing shortage. Until that free market philosophy is diluted, there will continue to be housing shortages in the Dublin area and elsewhere. As for homelessness – the market can look after that as far as mainstream politicos and business journalists are concerned.
Ollie Cromwell
I couldn’t wait to return from the Camino – never seen so many sandal-wearing religious nutjobs in one place for mile after mile.
Fortunately never saw them in the boozers at night as they were too busy whipping themselves with thorns, Nigel-stylee.
Nigel
Sorry you’re a social pariah nobody wants to hang out with, Ollie. Not sorry.
Ollie Cromwell
You hang around me like a fart in a spacesuit.
I think I may have a stalker.
Nigel
Wow, I thought all this performative nonsense was because you wanted the attention. Fine so.
Col
There is a housing deficit.
This leads to rent & house price becoming unaffordable.
This leads to increased homelessness.
How much a family receives in welfare payments is a separate problem.
Lilly
There’s a housing deficit because the government refuses to build social housing. Why? I don’t blame Eoghan Murphy for carrying on with his Camino walk. He know there’s no political will to lift a finger. Housing families in hotel rooms for years on end… what a joke.
MaryLou's ArmaLite
True, however there comes a point where the amount of welfare payments being paid means the state and the citizens have done more than enough to help the family, and if we have cross that threshold then sympathy quickly evaporates. Are the family playing us or has the state more to do? I want to know if we are being played, if we are asked to hand over free money then I believe we are entitled to ask that question.
Nigel
1. Sympathy has nothing to do with whether they are financially entitled to support.
2. You’re not really qualified to determine whether they are playing or defrauding the system.
3. You’re not entitled to access to the sort of personal and private information that would help make that determination.
4. You are entitled to ask questions about the system in a general way and make your concerns known to your elected representatives, not make scapegoats of a specific family who have come into the spotlight.
MaryLou's ArmaLite
I disagree, she put this issue into the public domain. She is trying to curry public sympathy to force a situation to her benefit. By making this public she loses the right to privacy.

Ollie Cromwell
Glad to know you’ve finally seen the light after all those months of praying for a second referendum.
Sorry pal,Blighty doesn’t get rolled over quite so easily as Ireland did with Lisbon 2.
Morto for you.
Brother Barnabas
thought that would poke you into action!
was expecting a reference to “French midget” though…
Ollie Cromwell
Apparently midget is a verboten word on here. Last time I used it the snowflakes changed it to person of limited stature which,to be honest, didn’t quite have the same effect.
I might try dwarf next time but I’m not holding out any hope with the wokes.
Brother Barnabas
elf is probably allowed
Ollie Cromwell
Strutting French elf doesn’t really cut the moutard though does it ?
wally
Just in theory Ollie
If the UK did have a second referendum and decided in staying ,I would imagine the EU would put a colossal price on them to teach other nations that leaving the Reich will have serious implications
Britain would be made an example of.
To actually understand the UK and its resolve one must of had to live there
I grew up there like many Irish that had to leave my country due to the hypocrisy and religion
The UK gave us a secure home a refuge
The British have resolve and they had an empire and still will stand for what is right
Before the EU Britain survived and prospered and after the EU the world will revolve and life goes on
And Britain w ill survive and prosper but for a few years there will be a bit of a recession as the UK adjusts to new markets
Sadly for us we will be caught in the cross fire as Europe try to destroy the UK
Sadly our leadership is not doing enough to ensure the damage that the EU will do to the UK will not damage us as we are so largely dependent on trade with the UK
As time goes on its going to get dirtier and dirtier and our leadership are just going on for the ride hoping the EU will put Ireland’s needs ahead of its own
We saw exactly what our friends do when the crash happened when we needed help and got savage austerity
Its now too late and the clock is ticking
Wishful thinking will not be the outcome
The UK are out and will not back down
Ollie Cromwell
Your views are shared by a lot of my Irish friends both here and in Blighty – not that you’ll ever see that reported in the Irish media which is basically the Dail’s doormat.
It’s all about Liability Leo standing up to the British oppressors and sure we can send all our exports by boat to Europe.
Clueless I tell you.
Elron
You had to leave because of the Hypocrisy and the Religion? What a tool.
rotide
Was gonna say that, that line made me stop reading the rest of his waffle.
Your parents CHOSE to leave Ireland, they didn’t HAVE to and certainly not because of religion.
scottser
Hey, dave’s back!
And as moronic as ever..
Papi
And Ollie is agreeing with him, the blind stares at the blind.
wally
So its reported but the big question is
Is this being orchestrated by the EU
Seems like part of a strategy to destabilise the UK
But little Englanders will stand fast like they did in the 1930s as Europe caved in to the Reich
Papi
Do you mean World War Two, david?
ReproButina
Sasamach is all about not being told what to do by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels! Instead they’ll take a no deal Sasamach and be told what to do by unelected bureaucrats in the WTO. Taking back control!
But hey, blue passports! Made in France though so they won’t be able to import them without a trade deal.
Ollie Cromwell
You do realise every country signed up to the WTO has to abide by its rules whether they’re in the EU or not ?
Nope, given some of your inane utterances I doubt that you do.
ReproButina
Of course and that’s why being in the EU, and being part of the trade deals the EU has signed, is of such a benefit.
After all, I’ve signed as many international trade deals as Liam Fox has since he took office.
Ollie Cromwell
That’s because the UK isn’t allowed to sign any trade deals whilst still a member state of the EU.
As can’t Ireland.
You really are silly.
ReproButina
Exactly. So when you crash out with no deal there’ll be no blue passports for you. No food either.
That’s why we’ll be seeing the British Taoiseach giving in to the EU conditions as the deadline gets closer. Turns out no deal isn’t better than a bad deal after all.
In the meantime Liam Fox must be loving his job. No pressure. No expectations. Paid by the British taxpayer to travel the world and do nothing.
Ollie Cromwell
Let’s try one more time to attempt to get some basic information through the thick outer layer of your cranium.
Liam Fox is the International Trade Secretary – his job is to travel the world drumming up trade. The hint is in his job title.
And blue passports. We’ll try this one slowly too.Any country in the EU can have whatever colour passport they wish – Croatia has a blue passport,Ireland could have a green one if it wishes.
Your staggering ignorance about the workings of the EU explain many of your crapulous posts.
ReproButina
Liam Fox’s job is to travel the world drumming up trade but the UK can’t sign trade deals so his job is an expensive joke.
The British Taoiseach announced blue passports as a visible sign of Sasamach. They are made in France. In the event of a no deal Sasamach there will be no imports from France meaning no blue passports.
Was that simple enough for you? That you can’t even understand why we’re laughing at you makes it all the funnier.
Ollie Cromwell
Let me get this straight – you think in the event of no deal France won’t import goods into the UK ?
My God,you really do have the brains of a rocking horse.
ReproButina
Hahaha! You were cheerleading a no deal Sasamach and you don’t even understand now no deal works!
ReproButina
*how no deal works.
Stupid typo.
Ollie Cromwell
It’s not just the typo that’s stupid if you think no deal means EU countries can’t import goods into Britain.
How do you think the device made in China that you’re posting from found its way into your hands ?
Seriously lad you’re making yourself look a bit simple at the moment.
ReproButina
Through a trade deal of course. You got one of those with France? Quality control agreements? Tariffs sorted? Standards signed off? Customs arranged?
Ollie Cromwell
The EU does not have a trade deal with China.
Or with the USA.
The device you’re posting with came into your hands via WTO procedures and tariffs.
Even someone as apparently as dumb as you should be able to understand that.
Actually what am I thinking of – of course you don’t.
Ollie Cromwell
Pavee Point have been very quiet throughout this whole affair and normally they’d be up on their hind legs complaining at the first opportunity.
Where is the so-called Traveller community rallying round this woman ?
She must have relatives or family. The husband must have the same. Why is she spending months in temporary accomodation when there’s so much official support available for Travellers.
There must be halting sites or settled Traveller communities which can come to her aid.
It’s clear to me the full story behind this case is not being revealed.
Something smells funny.
wally
The popes coin is not legal tender and by the time you have paid for postage your useless bit of tat is going to be a very expensive investment for a valueless item
And remember as you keep it what it represents
Also you can buy the CD collection also at a price of paid musicians doing a covers album bit like the papal edition of now that’s what I call music 50 which in a month will be flogged off at a bargain basement price on a market stall
The best thing people can do is boycott all these things as a protest for the refusal for justice to be given to the victims of the Irish holocaust
Shame on the artists that lent their name to this
Papi
Go on, david, rant away like Billy-O, ya mad thing!
Airey Naïve
I see Brendan O’Connor is donating his archive. Very generous of him, considering he hasn’t finished colouring it in yet.
Airey Naïve
On a related point to the holiday in hell story on in the Sindo (though a different story) – how can a woman who accepts a glass of complimentary wine on the UAE owned state airline Emirates be then arrested for drinking wine? An I missing something here?
Seems like a good policy for RyanAir to adopt on some of those Spanish flights actuallly…
Topsy
She was arrested for being a smart ass & not having a valid visa to be in the country.
Airey Naïve
Shame these Dubai Stasi don’t visit the Swan Bar on Aungier Street in Dublin where they could arrest rich Dubai medical students from the nearby RCSI who are regularly peed drunk in there trying to chat up Dublin women.
Dubai is a nasty, hierarchical, repressive, anti-semitic dump in a dessert. The pecking order there is:
1. Dubai men
2. Saudi men
3. White men
4. Women
She should NOT have been treated this way, nor should her 4 year old child. Holiday in Israel instead and give this theocracy the two fingers economically, politically, and socially.
Bring on those IDF F-16s …
jimmy
The fact she could raises concerns
Another thing is what happened to foreign workers who after the crash lost jobs and had to vamoose pretty quick before they were blocked from, leaving the country
Horror stories of those to slow jailed because of debt before any trial
Google the motors abandoned at Dubai airport
Mercs
Porsches etc

Sasamach is all about not being told what to do by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels! Instead they’ll take a no deal Sasamach and be told what to do by unelected bureaucrats in the WTO. Taking back control!
But hey, blue passports! Made in France though so they won’t be able to import them without a trade deal.
You do realise every country signed up to the WTO has to abide by its rules whether they’re in the EU or not ?
Nope, given some of your inane utterances I doubt that you do.
Of course and that’s why being in the EU, and being part of the trade deals the EU has signed, is of such a benefit.
After all, I’ve signed as many international trade deals as Liam Fox has since he took office.
That’s because the UK isn’t allowed to sign any trade deals whilst still a member state of the EU.
As can’t Ireland.
You really are silly.
Let me get this straight – you think in the event of no deal France won’t import goods into the UK ?
My God,you really do have the brains of a rocking horse.
Hahaha! You were cheerleading a no deal Sasamach and you don’t even understand now no deal works!
*how no deal works.
Stupid typo.
It’s not just the typo that’s stupid if you think no deal means EU countries can’t import goods into Britain.
How do you think the device made in China that you’re posting from found its way into your hands ?
Seriously lad you’re making yourself look a bit simple at the moment.
Through a trade deal of course. You got one of those with France? Quality control agreements? Tariffs sorted? Standards signed off? Customs arranged?
The EU does not have a trade deal with China.
Or with the USA.
The device you’re posting with came into your hands via WTO procedures and tariffs.
Even someone as apparently as dumb as you should be able to understand that.
Actually what am I thinking of – of course you don’t.
Shame on the artists that lent their name to this
Go on, david, rant away like Billy-O, ya mad thing!
I see Brendan O’Connor is donating his archive. Very generous of him, considering he hasn’t finished colouring it in yet.
She was arrested for being a smart ass & not having a valid visa to be in the country.
The fact she could raises concerns
Another thing is what happened to foreign workers who after the crash lost jobs and had to vamoose pretty quick before they were blocked from, leaving the country
