    Ah here
Boxing collectively are more likely to achieve more Olympic Hardwear than the lot put together an’ they’re getting 1/300th of a divvy

    That’s just sick
Even if the Ireland Hockey ladies get the Olympic Gold
It’s still only counted as 1 Gold in the table

Which is why they are the 4th highest funded sport anyway. This is just further funds. They already got 1.2 million, which doesn’t included the 175k worth of individual grants to 10 of the boxers themselves (between 12-20k tax free lump sum each)

Boxing in Ireland has collapsed since Billy Walsh departed for the USA. The Carruths are destroying it.

European Youth Championships – 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.

        Women’s European Championships – 1 gold and 1 bronze.

        Men’s European Championships – 1 gold and 2 bronze.

        I wouldn’t say collapsed exactly.

To post this on the same day there’s a post about Bart Nolan dying just further illustrates that you are beneath contempt.

Horse Sport Ireland. How is sitting on a horse while it runs and/or jumps around really a sport?

Jump on me back there and I’ll show ya.
Seriously though, I’ve seen that line so many times…
‘How is …..*insert sport I’m not interested in*….really a sport?

Yep and it’s always the types that would completely freak out if you inferred that ‘sure street art is only finger painting on walls, is it really art?’

Banging mindlessly on bits of plastic that triggers a computer to generate oscilations, not really music now is it?

It’s sort of vaguely irritating that Equestrian sports, Athletics and OCI get a large share of that money seeing as they’re already very handsomely funded. Nice to see gymnastics getting a piece of the pie given that our gold medal winner’s coach was let go from his job after winning at the commonwealth games.

Nice to see Badminton, Rowing and Cricket getting the rewards too.

I’m glad that our hockey team did so well, but is it really 10 times more deserving than cyling – if the funding is based on recent successes, Sam Bennett won 2 stages in the Giro, and Dan Martin won a stage in the Tour.

Cycling Ireland gets funding from the Sports council of Ireland and Northern Ireland, Hockey Ireland doesn’t.
