‘Sean Gallagher Is Actively Considering A Second Bid’

Seán Gallagher on RTÉ’s Frontline presidential debate in 2011

This morning.

On RTÉ’s Morning Ireland.

Conor McMorrow reported that businessman Seán Gallagher – who finished second behind President Michael D Higgins in the 2011 presidential race – is “actively considering” running for a seat in the forthcoming presidential election.

Mr McMorrow reported:

“Sources close to him say he is actively considering a second bid at becoming the president of Ireland and he’s expecting to make up his mind in the coming two weeks. He’s carried out some private opinion polling in recent weeks as well and apparently he’s looking at data from those polls as he considers entering in the race or not.”

“I don’t know how much we can read into this but we just found out last night that the web domain seangallagher.2018.com was registered just last Wednesday, at lunchtime last Wednesday.

“Sources close to Mr Gallagher would not comment on the significance, if any of this move, but it is very interesting.”

    Dunno lads

but there is definitely a ramp up behind the Public Accounts spin that they “might” investigate Aras expenses

Duffy and yer man are well capable of opening up that can

The two of them would split the vote for the kind of people that would vote for either of them. Micky D was the only one last time with any clue what the president does.

duffy is the spoiler/stalking horse. won’t get on the ballot or will drop out before the actual campaign

  2. Kevin Higgins

If he’s making a second bid for the Áras it had better be realistic. The OPW won’t take a penny less than 30 million

Someone once described him as looking like a “human thumb” and now that’s all I see when I look at him.

My first response was Awwwww! then I remembered he’s a knob so maybe he’s more of a human knobhead?

I’m not usually one to jump on bandwagons. But all of these potential rivals to Michael D seem terrible are have no hope of winning whatsoever.

“I’m not usually one to jump on bandwagons”

except for the greatest bandwagon in the history of humanity (!)

True and I’d like to see mickey d back in the seat again.

I also would like if people would stop slaughtering candidates for putting their names before we’ve even seen a campaign. It discourages democratic participation.

I don’t expect that from any of you as you are all swine.

      1. Annon

There’s democratic participation and then there’s this pointless waste of time and money.
People are going on and on about democratic participation like as if we should have an election every year.

Higgins is obviously the frontrunner but is clearly weak
    – broke promise not to run again
    – perceived as having gotten an easy run the last time, hacks will be way more critical
    – also perceived as being too fond of the high life/spending
    – will be running on record as Pres, which is good but not 100%
    – way too old, likely deserted by OAPs voters, and any wobbles or sign of frailty on the campaign will be magnified and could ruin him

still, can’t see Gallagher beating him really. what has he got that’s new? will be hamstrung by the frontline thing

      1. Glenda Gilbert

definitely is. particularly anyone around or above MDH’s age (who are guaranteed voters) will be more likely to vote against him than they were the last time

‘I couldn’t be flying off to god knows where and I’m only 63. he must be fond of the swanky hotels. no, it’s time for MIchael D to head home’ – you’ll hear this craic a lot from oul wans and oul lads

best to get the wear out of the few bob we’ll have to spend. for a start, miggledy will be entitled to a pension for doing sod all AND we’d still have to pay some other gobsheen to to the job AND give that muppet a pension for life after his term? no, work the miggledy like a dog for the next while and get some value out of him, i say.

      1. Cian

“miggledy will be entitled to a pension for doing sod all”

Everyone is entitled to a pension for doing “sod all”. Pensioners don’t have to work. That is literally what a pension is.

So lifelong dolers get presidential level salaries!

Wow. Going to get myself sacked shortly and then its the waiting game….

          Woo Hoo!!!!

      2. rotide

Today I learned that a life in poltics campaigning for social justice and holding the highest job in the land (so to speak) is ‘doing sod all’

          1. scottser

Ah rob, we get no say in who gets or doesnt get the dole but we do get a say who gets the presidential gravy.

The political filth in Leinster House are going to get the biggest shock of their lives when Michael D Higgins is not relected. It’s between Gallagher and Freeman at the moment. it will be interesting to see who the shinners pick.

People are baying for blood with crisis after crisis. they have had enough of the current political fixtures.

Michael D Higgins not being relected will be the first omen that they are all in trouble at the next GE

And for those that think that’s not going to happe and keep on referring to the ‘opinion polls’ remember they said brexit wouldn’t happen and trump won’t be elected.

The phenomonen known as the Bradley effect tells us people will most likely lie at an opinion poll and give the answer that’s determined to be most popular. they go with what they believe is the popular answer.

    1. Rob_G

“It’s between Gallagher and Freeman at the moment. it will be interesting to see who the shinners pick.”

      – that’s the thing, the anti-establishment/general contrarian vote is split too many ways.

  7. Cú Chulainn

I understand flying kites like this. But why bother, all the names so far are carbon copies of the same uselessness. Big Mickey, as I call him in Private, can be beaten. But it will be a totally different bred of candidate who could pull that off.

      1. Cú Chulainn

No.. sadly.. in all fairness to the man, he was right goer in his day.. though my lips are sealed.. he is without any doubt the best craic of a president anyone could ever hope for..

  8. Ian-O

Seriously though, do we really, really give a poo who is in the Aras?

I only care who is not there – Gallagher and Duffy being two, as for Miggledy, leave him at it, I have my criticisms of him but he isn’t the worst and is certainly not an embarrassment like Duffy is with his penchant for killing wild animals.
