Pope Francis’s Popemobile in Garda Headquarters on Monday

RTÉ reports:

Pope Francis will be driven through Dublin city centre in his ‘Popemobile’ on Saturday afternoon giving the public the first opportunity to see the pontiff, according to Assistant Garda Commissioner Pat Leahy.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Miriam, Commissioner Leahy said this will take place after the pope finishes at the Pro-Cathedral at around 4.15pm.

The route will go south on O’Connell Street, across O’Connell Bridge, up Westmoreland Street, and continuing up Dame Street.

The route will then pass Christchurch Cathedral, go down Bridge Street and across the Liffey onto Church Street to the Capuchin Centre where Pope Francis will have a private meeting with homeless families.

A ute with a lid. Klassy. It really fits in with the “no frills” persona Fran has created to play to the great unwashed.

Whens a massive thunderstorm when you want it?
If it can’t happen when he’s doing his little parade then perhaps on Sunday?

What happened to the Skoda the ‘people’s pope’ (sic) was travelling in?

Was it just an advertising scam?

Westmoreland Street is one-way for North bound traffic only!
Shane Ross needs to look into this Papal infallibility business.

I read one of newsjustins monologues yesterday on some thread where he stated his position on what the church means to him. I’m very happy for him that he finds the whole thing joyous and there’ll be a good few thousand newsjustins this weekend coming about the place (500k? I really don’t think so) and I’m happy for them too. I don’t wish them ill for the joy they feel being a member of this construct, what they do with their own time is their own business. I’m not impressed that the state is bending over backwards but I’m hoping (but not remotely expecting) maybe that there will be some watershed moment, realisation of damages caused, proper admittance and actual physical restitution begins. But how and ever….

It’s the zealotry I have a problem with.

I know directly of one local scenario where a parent is literally forcing her two teen daughters to attend this fest at the park. Why? This logic escapes me completely. The desire that others must be as you are, believe as you do, be another cog your construct. All I ever see is that scene from Toy Story 1 where Woody is caught up in the arcade machine with the little Martian lads who worship The Claw and he’s trying to shake them off as they do their damndest to prevent his escape…“STOPPIT YOU ZEALOTS!!”

I’d like to see newsjustins church disconnected from all state business, be truthful about what they’ve done and be truthful to themselves.

Maybe then I’d have more respect for them.

Until then whether it rains or shines will matter not a jot to me.

      Very well put;

And very often, in my experience, these same zealots have scant regard for basic decency and seem to rely on a rather convoluted moral code of their own:
There’s a high-profile, (well by local standards I guess), solicitor down the west who is presently in the news…and the courts.. for playing very fast and free with client accounts and charging the most obscene fees imaginable.
I believe the same man was until very recently a reader at mass in the local church.
There’s loads of ’em out there…unfortunately.

I’m doubtful about the 500k figure too. That’s the number of tickets issued. For all kinds of reasons, the attendance can only be lower than that.

It’s silly and counterproductive to drag teenagers to anything. But, let’s face it, that’s hardly just a churchy thing.

Bulletproof glass, explosive-resistant Chassis, when it’s operational it will be surrounded by a team of security personnel who have also scouted ahead.
    That’s faith I tell you……

Isn’t every fupper who wants to see him going to the Phoenix Park?

No need for this craic on the streets.

so you’re saying that almost half a million houses are going to be empty and vulnerable to burglary this weekend?
