Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Coveney introduces his three daughters to Pope Francis at Dublin Airport on Saturday

When asked if she would greet the Pope
Simon’s young daughter said “nope”
And a bribe of a cat
Was the only thing that
Could persuade the wee Coveney to cope

why did Leo varadker have to attend with a lady in tow. was his boyfriend not allowed to go?

The ‘lady’ you refer to was his personal assistant. Leo and team were on official duty.

Why would he want to meet the pope? He was probably rostered to do some actual good like looking after patients.

Poor child. But Simon got his moment with a VIP, regardless of how uncomfortable his daughter was, so that’s okay.

We are trying to separate the state from the church and the first person they have meeting the pope off the plane is the Tanaiste, in this case Simon Coveney and his kids, it really beggars belief. Well done Simon, enjoy the photo and the telling of the anecdote.

Because we all know it is not a real state and if it were it would be a hostile state as it refuses to pay compensation to victims of abuse.
